Wouldn't that be a complete kick in the pants! It's hard to fathom a police officer hiring a hit man to kill his wife ... and like you I'm wondering what other hits this guy has taken.

At the very end of the below linked video the reporter says LE told him they are not sure if this hitman is connected to Tamara Greene. They are investigating.

A man who says a Detroit police sergeant hired him to kill his wife is expected to be arraigned today in 36th District Court in Detroit. (more at link)

ETA: So far Smother's is connected to 5 murders. I'm not sure if they are all hits he's alluded to. Rose Cobb, two shot dead when their car stalled, two more in a drug house shooting.

An arrest warrant was issued April 11 by the 36th District Court for Smothers on charges of first-degree murder, felony murder, assault with intent to murder and firearm offenses stemming from a June 21 shooting in the 17000 block of Gravier in Detroit in which he and an accomplice allegedly shot three people, killing two at an apartment complex.

Investigators say his confession included the murders of two men from Chicago shot in May near I-94 and Joseph Campeau and the the shooting of a police sergeant's wife outside a CVS in December.

Your discussions on Tamara Greene and Kwame Kilpatrick has really caught my attention so much that I joined the WS board.

I had read in one of the freep's discussion to one of their many articles re: KK and Tamara that Lana Stempien was a City of Detroit attorney. Lana and her boyfriend, Chuck Rutherford Jr. (an attorney also) went missing from their boat in 2005. They found Lana's naked body washed up and have never found Chuck's. After two years of Chuck being missing, a judge declared him dead. I always thought you couldn't declare a missing person dead until after 7 years had passed. The crime scene seems to show that there was a struggle on the boat and that Chuck had thrown her off the boat, but where is he? Chuck had nothing to gain and would have lost his successful law business. It definitely didn't look like a heat of passion murder.

It just seems funny how all the present attorneys have some way or another helped Kwame cover up and mislead the public. Could Lana have not been willing to play along and was going to talk? It's also rumored that Chuck was representing Tamara Greene, but that one seems far fetched.

Has anyone heard of this connection before?

Fletcher, welcome to WS! Wow, interesting possible connections you bring to this case. I have followed Lana and Chuck's case sporadically and had no idea that Lana was a City of Detroit attorney. Because of that, I just never considered them a possible connection to this case. If you find any additional information on Lana and Chuck that you can bring to the discussion here, please do so!

Police said they also questioned Smothers about the April 20, 2003, shooting death of Tamara Greene, a stripper known as Strawberry. Smothers said he was not responsible for the shooting.
