Don't most hospitals keep you for a period of time after a suicide attempt anyway?

Generally yes, time varying dependent on the evaluation. MOO

Does anyone know if a psych admit to hospital would preclude questioning be LE? I am not very knowledgable about 72 hour (the usual time I've heard referred to) holds or admits for psych evals. Would that prevent him from being questioned/cooperative with LE?

I wonder if he was smart enough to leave rope/nuse (sp) at the home left for LE to find?

This story is so full of holes. I am very worried the outcome will not be good.

Is there a link to John's Facebook page?

I think it's been removed or is private because it does not come up on a search.

Actually, most people are not 'held' after a suicide gesture (and this sounds to me like a gesture, not a bona fide attempt - I'm a former psych nurse) IF the patient 'contracts' to not attempt again, they let the patient go. I have seen overdoses walk after 12 hours. It is VERY DIFFICULT and legally very risky for a hospital to attempt to hold someone involuntarily.
IMHO, the hospital is allowing this guy to stay at the behest of LE. In any other circumstance, he'd have been back on the street pretty quickly. Had he been seriously injured, he would not be in the psych ward.

I have zero knowledge of this case or even of adult psych cases, but my office the psychologists wait until they are released to do any questioning. In the case of a child that killed another child, that child was held in a pediatric psych unit for 5 days before questioned. immediatly upon release child was taken by police to a never named location and was met there by one of our therapists, childs parents, a child abuse investigator and of course detectives. i know if the child had not been released soon, they (LE) were going to force the issue of questioning a lot harder. but while the child was in psychiatric care, they left him/her alone. Obviously i'm sure there is a lot of differences between juveniles and adults.

ty marycarney, I agree, his attempt sounds more like a gesture rather and your explanation makes sense. I don't imagine Mr. Skelton is fighting that hard to get out right now as he contacted a friend to take him there in the first place. Plus, if what I suspect is the case, he will need to establish that he was not in his right mind lately.

( I do not know if my "quotes" are working)

I wonder if he can request that he stay and need help for instance stating that he will try and kill himself again.

Perhaps that would be a way to keep himself in the care of Dr. and prevent questioning from LE.

Do we know if he is being held for his physical injuries or for his mental instabilities?

I have seen articles that say he is still being held in the hospital for his injuries and pending psych evaluation, and others say that his physical injuries have little to nothing to do with why he is still in the hospital. TIA.

Well, if LE gets enough to arrest him, all his "I'm gonna REALLY kill myself this time" won't buy him a single extra minute of psych ward time.

Yep, they will still take him and put him in a paper gown on suicide watch

Did anyone find a link to a live presser feed (4:30pm EST, right?)?

Their mother, Tanya, has been with police "virtually the entire day" on Saturday, answering questions and serving as what Weeks called a "valuable resource at this time."

Weeks said Tanya Skelton had "contact with someone alleging to be Joann," adding only that this communication was not necessarily by phone or in person.

ETA description of boys

The alert notes that Tanner is 3 feet, 6 inches tall, has strawberry blond hair, has blue eyes and weighs about 40 pounds. Alexander is 3 feet, 9 inches tall, has brown hair and eyes, weighs about 45 pounds and has scars on his hairline and chin. The oldest brother, Andrew, is 4 feet, 1 inch tall, has brown hair and eyes and weighs roughly 57 pounds.

That statement bugs me, I dunno why.

This just gets more convoluted by the minute, and sadly, I fear that there will be the same outcome I feared from the moment I heard of this case.
