10 a.m. UPDATE — Authorities say they are “fairly certain” that the death of a South Lyon man whose body was found near a Hamburg Township lake Tuesday morning is not a suicide.

Chief Rick Duffany of the Hamburg Township Police Department said a friend of the victim — identified as Timothy Mark Gilders, 56 — found the body around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday in a conversion van parked on “several acres of land” around Ore Lake near Hamburg and Cowell roads. The area was “several hundred yards” into the woods, the chief noted.


“We’re fairly certain that it is not a suicide,” he said this morning. “We do not have a definite cause of death. Our initial observations and what we collected at the scene is he died of asphyxiation. We’re looking at other avenues (too).”

2:30 p.m. UPDATE — Authorities said the autopsy of a South Lyon man whose body was found near a Hamburg Township lake Tuesday morning was inconclusive today.

Authorities are now waiting for toxicology reports, which could take up to six- to eight weeks to complete.
