Meanwhile, Newport News Police Detective Todd Filer said his agency has “collected some evidence and conducted some interviews” in connection with the person who is suspected to have impersonated Douglas Stewart.

But Filer said no suspect has been named and he declined to elaborate on how close authorities may be to identifying who may have been making the appearances.

“We’ve been in contact with investigators from Michigan pretty much on a daily basis,” Filer said. “We’re vested in this case just like they are in Michigan. We’re hoping for people to come forward and provide us evidence.”

Filer said local Virginia news media is publicizing the case, asking the public’s help in obtaining descriptions of the suspected impersonator.

I know I have said this before, but I just can't get over how bizarre this is...I have been keeping my husband apprised of this case, as I do the ones I find interesting, and he said that he did not think a good friend would ask that many questions if DS had asked him to do him a favor, go in and pay his bill, pretend to be him, etc...that it could be kind of "guy" thing...and he's not so sure the guy, if known by DS, will come forward...just one man's opinion. I think whoever it is, if he knows DS, better come forward if he wants to stay out of jail, his prints will be on the checks, the bill he paid, ot something, unless he wore gloves (too). JMO

Well, they've insinuated he was on camera. Post the images. Sheesh.

Wouldn't the description of the suspected impersonator be obvious?

And maybe LE found the mirrored sunglasses that was worn when they searched Doug's parents house.

Are you suggesting someone in his family impersonated him ?

Maybe the real impersonator was in Michigan. Sounds like a defense attorneys dream.

I just got home from the ballpark and I must say....

So much new info!!!! Nothing on where VS may be. But, it looks like they are closing in on DS.

O/T (kinda sorta): A big thank you to Adnoid for keeping WS a great place to post. Also for being patient and giving warnings before action is taken. That means a lot.

Thanks.

The defense attorney, is going to love this. It creates reasonable doubt.

I hope they can collect enough evidence that it won't matter.

I never saw anyone but reporters use the word 'solid' in regards to the alibi. I don't remember anyone using the word 'true'.

And oh God not the Groucho glasses. hahahahahaha

Sorry I missed this earlier.
He was in Virginia when Venus disappeared and police say his alibi is solid.

Police once told 24 Hour News 8 that Doug's alibi was solid

Police said his alibi appears to be true.

Except there would have to be some explanation for why DS, if he were the one in VA paying the bills, would be dressed in attire that appears to be a disguise. And LE has already established he's in Michigan. Good try though for the defense! :) MOO

Now the alibi is bogus! lol
They thought it was true and solid but they were being played by an impersonator.

No, not at all. That is not what I meant. I was just thinking along the lines of evidence that LE removed from his parent's home..... thinking at the time I posted and I had not read through all of the posts yet from today, that maybe he was wearing the sunglasses to disguse himself.

Sorry for the confusion!

Lt. Risko says surveillance video of the imposter has been obtained, and police are certain it is not Doug Stewart.

Newschannel 3 went to Doug Stewart to ask him about the mounting evidence police have against him, and while he refuses to go on camera, he says investigators can't find real evidence for a crime he didn't commit.

Venus Stewart Case: Police Say Doug was in Michigan hours before disappearance

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY - Michigan State Police Detectives are releasing a couple of new details in the case of Venus Stewart--the woman missing from Colon Township in Saint Joseph County.

In a press release today, MSP "is asking anyone who may have information regarding a person or persons who impersonated Douglas Stewart in the Newport News, Virginia area between Sunday, April 25 and Monday, April 26, 2010, to contact police." They ask anyone who had contact with Mr. Stewart, or someone claiming to be Mr. Stewart, on these dates, to contact police.

Lt. Mike Risko of the Michigan State Police the day Venus disappeared, says a man wearing a hoodie and tinted sunglasses entered a law office in Newport News, Virginia, and claimed to be Douglas Stewart, paying a bill. Police say they don't know if the man would be considered an accessory to a crime at this point, but want to talk to him. Risko went on to say that the State Police now have evidence that Douglas Stewart was in Michigan the night before Venus disappeared, but would not elaborate.

The headline on that link is somewhat misleading, actually Risko said they had evidence he was in Michigan the night before, not that day. He also referred to evidence placing him in Ohio gathered a few weeks ago, presumably that was the reciept. The implication from that statement is that there isn't video, as some have speculated there might be.

I would guess that the evidence placing him in Michigan is something similar to the reciept, a credit card payment or something like that.

Unless they have video or an eyewitness who actually knows him, there will still be a question mark over that evidence however. It may still turn out that the guy in the hoodie/shades is DS, and that would be interesting for sure.

This whole imposter/s thing is pretty damned wierd though. Oviously he can't be in two places at once, so at one of them there was an imposter.

If I had to guess I would say the one that seemed to be disguising himself, ie glasses, hoodie.
