And, he knew his children were in that house.

To me, that makes his actions even more sick!

He did leave them essentially alone in the house. Though quite frankly, I am just relieved that he didn't take them too. He knew her Mom was gone, he knew her Dad was asleep. He had her subdued, restrained or already killed before he drove away or he wouldn't have been able to drive away. He could have easily gone back in and taken the kids too.

Fortunately, his plan was to get custody of them, not to kill them. Otherwise, this could have ended even more tragically than it did.

O/T, but on topic sort of...I once sent candy, cards and a teddy to a crime victim (child) in MI who threw herself in front of her mother when they were kidnapped by mom's live in and he opened fire with a gun on Mom inside the car...anyone else remember that case? That girl was such a HERO.

would you let us know if you hear anything about a search for Venus?? I am afraid her case is not brining the national news I would be expecting... :(

Wonder how they would explain his need for an impersonator?

Did this reporter just say DS abused his children? Not child?

I am so relieved to hear that Doug is where he belongs...finally !

How heartbreaking. But it was always obvious this would be the outcome. Her poor babies and family. I had been following this and am so relieved they found this guy so LE could nail Doug. They probably would have anyway, but it would have taken a long time waiting for all the evidence, lab results to line up. It'll be interesting to see what this Spencer guy's story is.

I agree, when I heard the news of his arrest I expected way more news and attention even on our own forum. I googled up to date news daily and nada. Even after his arrest really not much. But when I put it into perspective of how many people are missing out there and the numbers are staggering! I'm grateful for WS and VERY dedicated members that bring many missing to the forefront and bring justice and dignity to their lives.

This case really gets to me. I have daughters about the same age as Venus', and it's so heartbreaking. I have a hard time understanding how he could have lured her out of the house. She was so afraid of him that she left the state and wrote a will, yet would go outside because he sent her a text? If a phone call or a text was involved, it seems like LE would have had those records early on. Any idea if they do?

Exactly. However, being possibly being informed by a second party that Doug had driven her truck up to Michigan so she would have her own transportation and that someone had dropped it off and it was in the field across the street and the keys, along with some money, had been put into the mailbox, may have been enough bait to get her to go outside to check it out, especially if she was lead to believe Doug had already headed back to Newport News, Virginia, 14 hours drive away. That's the only thing that comes to mind that would make sense to me.

Absolutely, the certainty of it removes all hope. It will be another huge blow when they actually find her body.

I think THIS is probably what is bothering her parents the most. The fact that she was LURED out. That she didn't just go out and happen to get grabbed. That if someone else had been awake when she got the message or whatever, it might have been stopped. If her Dad had been awake and said, "Oh really, well I'll walk out with you." Then, it may not have happened.

I think they likely switched phones too. Doug probably left his phone with Spencer in Virginia, so it would be pinging there. Doug would have had Spencer's phone... he could have sent a text to Venus, "from" Spencer if he had his phone.

Though... I know I am more paranoid than most. I still wouldn't have gone outside. I would have said, "Thanks so much, I am really busy right now but I will go out and move it later." I also can't leave my children alone in the house to go out to the mailbox, so it wouldn't have been an issue for me. If I felt the need to go look to see if it was really there, that would mean I didn't fully trust the person... which would mean I wouldn't want to go outside.

So it STILL seems odd to me that she was comfortable going outside that early in the morning to begin with. :waitasec:

[bbm]

very good points

it will be difficult to convince her parents there's nothing they could've done to prevent it but he would've got her some time, some place eventually, no matter what they did to protect her - I feel so bad for them

I never thought of them switching phones and now that you mention it, it seems like an obvious thing

sounds like your instinctual warning system is strong - poor Venus made one fatal error by ignoring hers, which leads me to the thought that perhaps he did something else devious, like playing a recording of a child crying or kitten meowing ... something that would get her outside fast without thinking

if someone is capable of pretending to be Venus in phonecalls, I think they're capable of something similar to lure her out

I don't know the case but that's awesome that you did that :blowkiss:

Hi guys... what great news--about the arrest! Very sad, though, that this means Venus is most likely deceased.

I just read the article in which Venus' brother was interviewed, and what jumped out at me was this:

"If he would have just been honest with my sister from the get-go she would have accepted him for who he was, you know." LINK

The reason it jumped out at me is... I've heard it before... from a friend of mine who married a man who later divorced her. I am trying to be as sensitive as possible when I say this, and this is in NO WAY meant to be an insult of Doug or anyone else...

I think that Doug may be gay or bisexual and very closeted, possibly even trying to hide this from his family members. I think that the fact that Spencer agreed to participate in this, even helped plan it, and received no financial gain from it indicates that something else was going on between Doug and Richard. Why else would Doug trust Richard with something that could land him in jail for the rest of his life?

OK... please guys, be gentle with me in your responses. Would like to hear what you think Dustin's statement meant. What could Doug have been honest about that Venus would have accepted? Child molester--no. Kiddie 🤬🤬🤬🤬 collector--no. Xbox addict--don't think so.

What do you guys think?

If Doug Stewart did molest his daughter, clearly he has unnatural sexual desires.

It is a very puzzling, vague statement and I'd really like to know what he meant. Clearly, she wouldn't have "accepted him for who he is" if he admitted he had sexual desires for preschool age girls or that he had an appetite for child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬.

I wish that someone in the media would ask Dustin to clarify that statement! I guess if it's bisexuality/homosexualty, it will eventually come out. Like you said, I just don't know what else it could be that she might accept.

I have scoured the innertubes looking for a Richard Spencer that could be THE Richard Spencer, but there are too many to narrow it down. Would like to see what this guy looks like--how he could have pulled off being Doug for a day.

We may be reading too much into a statement made by a grieving brother who probably hasn't been getting much sleep.

He could have meant: "If Doug could have admitted he had emotional and psychological problems to Venus in the beginning, she would have still loved and accepted him and would have made certain a humble, aware Doug Stewart received the counseling, love and support that he needed."

I read a comment on a newspaper article written by someone who attended school with DS who claimed he was afraid of him since 6th grade, that of the 200 people in his high school class, DS was the person he would have thought to murder his wife. He stated that DS was either up and happy or stomping off very angry, that he had radical mood swings.

can we stick with sleuthing out who Richard Spencer is and how he might be related to this crime? We know from media that he did not turn himself in but was found. Now I might infer that this means he is in custody somewhere. There have been additional statements in the media indicating that Spencer might have played XBOX with DS etc. So is he a school mate?
