Ireland Michael Gaine, 56, last seen buying phone credit, Kenmare Co. Kerry, 20 March 25

Or maybe he gave someone a ride from the store that he knew, something happened and that person dropped his car off at his farm. Just adding other possiblities but I agree with looking deeper into the homeless guy
Why, oh why do I think of the missing pilot Bullinger, who murdered his wife, mistress and daughter of his mistress on an Idaho farm?

I have a few questions and thoughts about some of the info we have received from LE and MSM reports about MG’s disappearance:
1. Re: The sandwich and drink he purchased at the Centra when he bought the credits for his mobile phone. His keys and phone were found in his SUV. Were the sandwich and drink in there, too? If not, were the wrappings/cup in the SUV? Did he buy them for former US Marine who lived on his property?
2. Re: What did MG do after he left the Centra station? He was driving his wife’s SUV that day. Was it found in the farmyard closest to the ex Marine’s house? Was this a place MG commonly parked? Published reports say that MG drove past his “wife’s house” from the Centra station to where the SUV was found. I thought this was unusual wording as opposed to driving past the “house where he lived with his wife”. Did they live separately?
3. Re: The former US Marine living in a dilapidated house on MG’s property. Did MG bring him a sandwich and drink the day he disappeared? Was he the last known person to have seen MG?
Locals viewed him as a sort of mechanic who would repair cars and farm equipment. Is this how he made money to buy food and other necessities? Did he and MG have a falling out in the days/weeks leading up to MG’s disappearance? If so, what was it about? If the US guy did something to harm MG, did he take him off somewhere to dispose of the body?
4. Re: MG going “up north” to buy a tractor or other farm equipment. It is said he did this when he needed a replacement for a broken tractor. How far from his farm was this? When he went, did he take a trailer to load up the purchase or was it driven back? If so, who would drive him there?
5. Re: MG looking to purchase new boots. Much is being said about the fact that he allegedly said he wanted the cheaper of the two pair he looked at because he didn’t have far to go or something to that effect. Some locals are surmising that he may have had suicidal thoughts. I am not reading too much into this unless locals have information that MG might have been depressed in the days leading up to his disappearance. According to published reports, MG’s friends/neighbors said he has two bad knees and a bad hip. This is what he may have been alluding to when he said he wouldn’t have far to go meaning he couldn’t take long walks or hikes.
6. Re: Reports that MG sometimes went off for a couple of days at a time. Where did he go? Where did he stay? Does he have a gf? Does he have a roving eye? Friends say he only didn’t come home if he had too much to drink. That would be understandable if he showed up the next day, but more than one day would be unusual.
7. Re: Did MG voluntarily disappear? Would he buy credits for a phone he didn’t plan on taking with him? If he went off on his own, how did he leave? Did he have someone pick him up?

Is this a case of accident, illness, or misadventure and he just hasn’t been found yet? Or is it something more nefarious?

This is behind a paywall .Does anyone have access to give posters a synopsis of what it says .
The man who was living on Mike’s property has provided a witness statement to the gardaí and is considered a “witness of interest”, though he is not under suspicion of wrongdoing and was not interviewed under caution. He is 1 of about 100 people who have provided statements.

A number of items, believed to be hunting equipment, were found on the nearly 1000 acres that comprises Mike’s property but the gardaí will not comment at this time on their relevance to Mike’s disappearance.

Gardaí superintendent David Callaghan describes the case as “unique and challenging” and says they are no closer to finding him than they were 3 weeks ago.

That’s about it from this particular article, nothing really new.

Thank you very much appreciate your time in writing this post up

Did the article delve further into the weapon sketches done by the "witness" or was the headline clickbait

Going 'up north' is most likely referring to Northern Ireland, it's a common way to refer to NI in Ireland.
Depending on how much was spent on the new machinery, it's possible it would be delivered, as a sweetener in any deal.. Alternatively he may take a trailer, if the machinery is not too big. But the journey would take several hours from Kenmare to get up over the border. You definitely wouldn't drive a tractor from NI to Kerry.

Okay, thanks @mangomouse. That’s helpful. Trying to narrow down the possibilities/probabilities here.

That's an interesting way of describing the witness.

Documentary on virgin media tomorrow night ( Thurs 17th April) .

Bit soon I would have thought , I could understand an appeal on news or an appearance on late late show for a family appeal but a Documentary . Should be an interesting watch though

I do feel if this man disappeared of his own accord and was alive ,he would have rang a garda station by now to inform them he was still alive and had chosen to walk away from everything.

I remember the search for jay slater and the difficulties in finding him in such vast and difficult terrain and when eventually found he was within the area being searched ,I wonder will the finding of micheal be the same and that he is there on his farm land but search teams just haven't came across him yet .

Another similarity I have seen is from people on SM in both cases
people assuming the warm weather would mean that a body would smell and therefore would be found quickly by sniffer dogs ( ireland has expierenced really warm weather past couple of weeks )or that prehaps animal or bird activity would stand out and locate a body . But as we have seen in Jay's case he was there all along prehaps micheal will be too .

Another similarity is the narrative of a villain and the public fingerpointing at people whom in Jay's case anyway turned out to be innocent just dodgy as 🤬 I wonder will it turn out the same regarding the suspicion being aimed at the former marine

Although an American he let live rent-free in a derelict property on his farm about six years ago still lives at the farm, it is not known how the man felt about the prospect of looking after the cattle.

U.S. tourists in Ireland are only allowed to stay for 90 days before needing a visa. So is the American in Ireland illegally, or does he have some kind of long-stay permit?

Good question 🤔 on the other hand he could be an American with irish heritage and have dual citizenship. I suppose his emigration status is kind of irrelevant . My question would be how did a former American marine become homeless in ireland. He was allegedly living on Mike's land for around 6 years .But was that accounting for the time before Mike noticed him and offered him accomodation?

Sorry if this sounds judgmental and I know lots of people find themselves homeless through circumstances that are not their fault . Landlords can sell up and tenants can't find accommodation in the current housing crisis in ireland. But imo and it moo ,aren't a large percentage of homeless people in those circumstances through addictions and mental health issues . Was this man known to be mentally unstable ? He seemed mentally together enough to be of help to Mike repairing vehicles and the like .

I do have my suspicion by the way the media are wording articles as in putting witness in brackets etc

I came across this article this morning and wondered why the garda were being so secretive . I know a young man called Luke price is missing in limerick city since January but I did wonder if it was Mike the area garda are searching is 130km from kenmare and would be a 3 hour journey by car to get to it so I'm assuming a 3 hour journey back . I did search rivers running through kerry and limerick and the Shannon does . Could be nothing I will keep looking for updates

I would think that immigration status matters because if he is living illegally that could always be grounds for something bad occurring

I feel its irrelevant because he was living on Mike's land for six years or more . Because Mike offered him shelter in an old farmhouse / outhouse some conversation had to have taken place regarding this man's situation and the circumstances in which he found himself homeless on Mike's land .

He was also imo known by the wider community in kenmare . These farm communities are very close and everyone knows everyone's business and a lot of times the garda stationed in the town would be from the area and have family members with farmland etc ,so would be privy to town gossip . So it wouldn't be long reaching their ears that an illegal immigrant was living within their midst. These are not like cities and towns that you could become anonymous or blend into the shadows tbh . When a stranger / tourist/ visitor comes into town its noticed immediately and the would be talk of the town

Unless it only recently transpired to Mike that this man was here illegally and Mike was going to report it I don't think it is relevant to the investigation. What is important though is ,did this former marine suffer mental health problems regarding his time in the marines . Was he kicked out of the marines over inappropriate behaviour ,did he jump ship and go awol if his ship docked along the west or south coast of Ireland or is it a case were his mental health needs were forgotten by the army and like many army veteran's in America he ended up homeless.

It just intriguing that he ended up in the back end of nowhere in kenmare co kerry . One would expect him prehaps to end up in Cork City or one of the other major cities in munster province.
