Ireland Michael Gaine, 56, last seen buying phone credit, Kenmare Co. Kerry, 20 March 25

I wonder what grounds he believes he has for asylum? It's unusual for Americans to claim asylum in Ireland. In 2023, 13,095 people claimed asylum, 18 of which were American. On this link there is no data indicating whether any were granted.

He is definitely a dodgy character. The only grounds that I can surmise that a marine would go off grid is , something happened within the marines and he went awol . And is claiming asylum out of fear of a higher ranking officer or during his line of work with the marines he found drugs belonging to the mafia . Prehaps I'm watching too many Steven segal movies 🤣 I reckon it's more sinister reasons why he went into effective hiding .

Maybe Mike was unaware until recently that this guy was an illegal immigrant and decided he didn't want him on his farm . 🤔

My thinking is if the suspect is the perpetrator the reason for the killing is definitely to do with recent occurrences over the deportation notice because otherwise why would Mike have no problem having the suspect living rent free in a property on the farm for 3 years or more

God love Mike and his family ,what an awful way to lose your life and for his family to live with that nightmare situation

The suspect is 100% coming across as a nefarious character type

I found it interesting after he went missing that there was so much media coverage about the sale of Gaines cattle, it seemed like a fairly innocuous activity that was being reported on. In retrospect I think there may be a reason the media focused on selling the cattle

Human remains identified as missing farmer Michael Gaine

The confirmation comes nine days after human tissue was discovered in fields on Mr Gaine's farm, near Kenmare.

[…]

A man in his 50s, who was arrested last Sunday on suspicion of Mr Gaine's murder, was later released without charge.

He has denied any involvement in the farmer's disappearance.

On Sunday evening, gardaí confirmed the identification of Mr Gaine's remains in a statement.

They have further appealed to the public for assistance in this investigation.

Now the suspect is playing detective 🙄

Wonder how he's going to handle another interview now that the human remains are confirmed to be Mike's.
He is a big man and you can see with him wielding that axe that he would be quite capable of overpowering someone

This case gets stranger and stranger by the day....

Indeed it does , I always feel the more media attention a suspect seeks , the more likely they are to be guilty in 99% of cases anyway . Particularly when they seem to insert themselves into the public eye and create a hypothesis and narrative and it goes further than a family member pleading for help regarding let's say a missing child

Mr Kelley explained: “I have been living underground and hiding from the immigration authorities for seven years. I am currently under a deportation order.”

Mr Kelley, who insists he “loves Ireland” and would never flee, says he accepts that his illegal status was flagged because of this case - but he doesn’t expect to be deported now while he remains a suspect.

He continued: “The thing is my legal status is that I am illegal. When I left the asylum system, I was no longer an asylee.

“Basically, I have an ongoing deportation order, the conditions of it is I have to report to the garda station every say four or five days and they issue an extension.

This guy is either "stupid" or playing a long game here. Hopefully time will tell.

He is mentally unstable that's my view and thinks he is staying one step ahead .

His statement of 'I love ireland' is telling as where is his proclamation of love for Mike . A man whom allowed him live rent free in a property on the farm and whatever other perks that came with that .

It seems his need to stay in ireland could have drove him to kill someone that prehaps was jeopardising that .

And he wasn't living underground, off the radar maybe .

It is looking more likely that he murdered Mike

What do you make of this guy and do you think he is a convenient suspect as he was the only one who worked on the farm from what we are led to believe anyway .

I sense an element of prehaps ptsd, paranoia or maybe just a distrust of authority

If he did kill Mike ,what was he hoping to gain . For someone who lived under the radar as he alleges, he certainly seems to enjoy the spotlight

I see delusions of persecution...
Shifting blame away from himself wHen he said Mike told him he was meeting a man that day...
Probably if we knew the American's suspicious back history it would all make sense...

Possibly just mentally unwell in general.. He claimed during divorce proceedings in the US that his now ex wife was practising witchcraft on their two children.

ETA The same has been stated in less tabloid-y sources, but they were paywalled

This article sheds a lot of light on Kelly - unstable without a doubt.

Definitely imo kelley is the killer . His allegations of witchcraft against his ex wife and to believe them thoughts enough to bring them into a court of law in particular show an individual who is probably borderline if not completely schizophrenic or at the very least a deeply paranoid and prone to grandiose delusions .

Interestingly he was not obliged by the courts to pay child support . America is usually stern on alimony.

A really revealing interview (spread over two articles from what I can tell). IMHO he’s very likely the culprit. I think the plan was to slice the body into small enough pieces to slide through the little gaps in the slurry tank (imagine what it would take to do that to a human being) where it would safely spread across the fields by the muck spreader. That’s why he was - by his own admission - watching the police search the septic tank (because he knew the body was in there and wanted to know if they found it) and why he so convinced the body parts found couldn’t have been MG’s. He believes he did his job well enough that any body parts large enough to gum up the spreader had to be a different body (even though that’s nuts).

There’s also the comment of not wanting to “trip up” by getting the date of the last time he saw him wrong, which is suspicious.

If nothing else, he’s an all round shady character, seemingly a bit unstable and with a potential motive inasmuch as he was living under the radar, which MG was a potential threat to.
