Found Deceased Michele Ann Joy Bourda, 59, British tourist, suddenly disappeared from Ofrynio beach in Kavala, Greece, 1 Aug 2025

I wonder how the timing can be so precise -if the husband was asleep when she disappeared ?
I would have expected the wording to say he last saw her at X time - and then she was not there at Y time, when he woke up.

I agree, I would be alerting almost straight away, after I had done a quick search.
Perhaps he was searching for several hours - well as soon as he woke up of course - and then, by the time he went to the police and gave his report and had it officially logged, the time was 7pm
I agree, how does one pinpoint a time that a person went missing? To do that implies you saw them just before that time and then didn't see them soon after, I don't think we have the full facts for whatever reason and sadly it won't have a happy ending

Seeing as Michele reportedly lived in Greece with her Greek husband, I find it quite unusual that they were on the beach in the midday sun in August, only tourists on holiday normally venture out at that time.
Locals tend to avoid going out in the heat of the day.
Also, I maybe wrong but from the picture provided, she didn't look like a sun worshipper and if she just enjoyed swimming in the sea there are better times to do it.

I wonder if it was much more than a Power Nap ? Like two hours maybe? Doesn’t recall the time much.

As Monday, August 4, drew to a close, the Hellenic Coastguard and local police were still combing the Strymonian Gulf and surrounding land, with no plans to stop

Michele, described as a temporary resident of Serres

Ofrynio Beach is a jewel in northern Greece, drawing tourists to Kavala’s shores.
But record-breaking heat—hitting 38°C recently—has made this summer perilous

The Silver Alert’s mention of potential health issues like dementia raises questions, though no confirmation of Michele’s condition has been shared.

She was apparently seen swimming at around 12pm

Michele is a British citizen who likely also had a home in the UK.

part of the beach near where she disappeared is surrounded by vegetation, houses and
a large reservoir.

Some screenshots of maps of the area. There are a lot of houses around the beach, so someone would have seen an "elderly" 58 year old woman wandering around in a bathing suit if she left the beach. Doesn't appeal to me as special beach location ... surrounded by houses - maybe have to be there to fully appreciate the location.

I haven't found anything about riptides. They can carry a person a far distance fast.

The reports say she went missing at noon, but was only reported missing in 'the evening'.
If my partner went missing near water, leaving their belongings behind, I would be extremely worried and wouldn't wait what seems like several hours to report it.
But you’d probably first search on your own, check the beach, maybe go home to check (if you lived nearby), then start asking around etc? Let’s be honest, when an adult goes missing, nobody will alert the authorities in the first couple of hours, unless there’s very good reason to do so.

Were the sunbeds on sand? Was anyone else on the beach at the time? Is there any possibility she is below ground? Far fetched I realise but just trying to think outside the box. JMO MOO

In Europe, yes, the sunbeds are usually on sand. The beach seems to be in a populated area so there would be many people around. Burying a body in such a location would be something that would definitely stand out.

My first thought is that she went for a swim and something happened.
A possibility of dementia/alzheimer's -- although that has not been confirmed so speculation only --- is concerning !
Hope she is found but it sounds bad.
Did anyone see her at the beach who has come forward ?
Imo.

Wondering if MB left her spot in search of a rest room?

"Apparently" without an ID (a fellow beach-goer; a lifeguard; a passerby; her husband) annoys me to no end.

Seen by who?? I really want some independent verification that she was even at this beach.

Is there cocktails service at this beach?
Is it part of a resort?

They live an hour's drive away. I presume they came in their vehicle. Where would she go for more than an hour or two if it's just the two of you at the beach? This isn't a metropolitan area. Would you wait 7 hours to report your spouse missing in those circumstances? Wouldn't you run around on the beach asking anyone you could find if they had seen her? And after a frantic immediate search wouldn't you call police?

Unless... she had a drinking or gambling problem as was know to have disappeared for hours at a time. Are there any casinos or many bars nearby? It seems it would be easy to search them in this particular area.

And if she had any health or mental issues then you would be all over it right away. Wouldn't you?

As they live locally, maybe they went frequently to the beach? Maybe a Shirley Valentine situation? Kind of hope so.

when i translate the missing persons website it says she’s “elderly unidentified”.. i wouldn’t say 59 is elderly, but i think maybe for some people elderly is 55+? i wonder what people in greece think is elderly!

i’m not 100% convinced she has to have dementia or a similar condition (but it could be the case of course)

[bbm]

according to the internet, 50+ is considered elderly for women and 60+ is considered elderly for men in Greece
