Scandi,
Have been studying on this a bit. Just my interpretation of this but the warrant issued to the home on 11/3 included the words instruments and items. This warrant was issued at 3:21 pm. The search warrant for the Suv uses weapons and/or blunt objects and was issued on 11/4 at 3:15 am - roughly 12 hours difference and written by two different individuals.
During that 12 hours it is most likly safe to assume the ME was on the scene and that several observations were made. Given the short duration of time between the warrants, I think it is also safe to assume the cause of death was pretty well theorized but not necessarily confirmed.
One can think that perhaps items at the scene were looked at to include or exclude from the possible list of instruments used during the commission of the crime. One can then look at the search warrant for the SUV and see that instruments are now defined as weapons and/or blunt objects, keeping in mind two different people have filed for the warrants.
On face value there are two assumptions that could be made about this; one since the search for blunt objects is requested in the SUV warrant - the instrument was not recovered at the home or the ME believed there was more than one instrument used and it was not found in the home; the second assumption is that out of an abundance of caution because of what little data the officers have, the search for a weapon in the SUV required continuance. Of course the inventory sheets for both warrants are obviously not the total of evidence collected either from the home or from the SUV - I'm not sure how one would conclude from the data we have in our hands that LE has the murder weapon in their possession.
A knife was recovered from the SUV but I have doubts that a Cold Steel lock blade knife is sufficient to cause the trauma outlined in the AR. The only possible instruments shown on the home warrant would be wedding photos. Of course the possibility exists that a complete inventory from the SUV was not filed as evidence was recovered and is present in additional inventory sheets. Same with the inventory sheets from the house. Again I'm not seeing anything that makes me believe that LE has indeed recoverd a murder weapon. But my thinking can sometimes be restricted as well. So, based on what information we have, I cannot make the leap to thinking that LE has the weapon(s). JMO but then again, I think there is more than one weapon after reading the AR.
