It's hard to tell by the photo, charlie, but I believe you can check with the VIN# (on the search warrant). Ive driven both the 2WD and 4WD for that vehicle, and didn't really have much difference on the exterior appearance, FWIW.
:)
The photos are tough but I was comparing it to the car next to it. I know my 4wd makes cars look really "short". Oh well.

15 mpg = max 315 miles/tank
20 mpg = max 420 miles/tank

Wish the time and gallons for these receipts was with the dates - he filled up on the 2nd and again on the 3rd.

I think we'll eventually find out that those dark spots were not blood, but a very good excuse to search Jason's SUV.
I find it interesting however that whatever those spots are - they are consistent in the respect that both are located on the driver's side - rear seat & rear door.

We know the step father complained about their luggage being taken. Right? Correct me if I am wrong, but I for sure remember meds of theirs being taken.

Does anyone know where the Hampton Inn Hotel is located? If he got blood in the car he would have cleaned it when he got to the hotel I think. He might have opened up the right rear door and set a bag with the accoutrements to the crime on the seat, and if it was a plastic bag and it was leaking, I could see how the blood could get on the door and seat. And if he cleaned the car by washing it out, those spots might be easy to miss, especially if he was frenzied and doing it quickly so as not to be noticed.

Would he drive all the way to that hotel before disposing of the accoutrements? That could be risky, especially if he were stopped for a traffic ticket! It is where I see the blood comking from tho, if it is indeed blood.

Does anyone remember reading he had bruises?

ETA: Oh, I missed that Charlie about the blood on the back door being on the drivers side. Thanks.

It would help if we knew where the gas was purchased and where this Hampton Hotel is, which I'm not seeing on the search warrant return. Otherwise it's hard to tell how far he's supposed to have driven versus going to that destination and doubling back home.

I am seeing Handee Hugos 89 as being at 2516 South Saunders Street in Raleigh.

That makes sense. He filled the tank before he left for his trip. And if the Hampton receipt is dated 11/2/06, then he obviously checked in before midnight. Now, where was the hotel located?

There is a Hampton Inn Hotel in both Raleigh and in Durham.

Hampton Inn & Suites - 6.3 miles W - 111 Hampton Woods, Raleigh, 27607 - (919) 233-1798
Hampton Inn Raleigh - 6.8 miles NW - 6209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, 27612 - (919) 782-1112

Wouldn't the Hampton in be in VA where his meeting was in the morning?

I have found a Get It Market in Duffield VA - extreme southwest corner of VA near Kingsport:

You'll likely need to Zoom it out about 6 clicks

http://yellowpages.superpages.com/supermaps/mapinit.jsp?SRC=msn&N=Get+I+Market&R=N&STYPE=S&T=&S=VA&Z=&LID=0125490330&map.x=212&map.y=125&level=8&lat=036712332&lng=-082855216&POI1lat=036712332&POI1lng=-082855216&POI1name=Get-It+Market&city=Duffield&state=VA&zip=24244

Interesting location if correct. Could find no Get it markets listed in NC or Tenn. Doesn't mean this is the location but...

Indeed, that is interesting.

Kind of off the beaten path. Reckon they have a surveillance camera?

I'm glad you found the same thing Scout - I'm going to track down Hampton Inn locations in VA as well and see what might fall in line.

I did a bit of googling and found one guy who drove a 2004 V6 Explorer. He got close to 400 miles out of a tank.fwiw. How many miles is it again from Raleigh to Brevard? It would be interesting to see how much gas he needed in Brevard. But if f he went from Raleigh to the Hampton Hotel, back to Raleigh and then on to Brevard he could just as easily put in some extra gas and paid cash.

Which makes me wonder about these receipts. Seems it's awfully convenient to have them laying in the car. Maybe the guy is just disorganized but you'd think he'd store them away to be used for his expense account. It's almost like he wanted them to be found. (I'm probably just too cynical - either that or I'm giving this guy too much credit). In any case, I don't ever leave any receipts in my car but then alot of people do.
As usual, I'm going around in circles here!!

I just watched the coverage on both WRAL and WTVD, they don't know anymore than we do about the Hampton Hotel (may not be a "Hampton Inn") or the Get I Market.

I know that Jason has stayed in Hampton Inns in the past, but I would think something a little seedier would be more appropriate for a night such as it was.
A less posh hotel also may not have had camera's or key cards.
If it is a "Hampton Inn", it could be anyplace. I have a Chapel Hill/Durham directory and it is showing 9 between Raleigh and Mebane. There must be a gazillon of those places.

Since the murder occurred in the middle of his trip, I'm not seeing anything odd about the receipts being in the vehicle and not in his briefcase, for example. The hard part regarding the gas purchases would be to have the appropriate amount of gas in the vehicle when it was seized, if he indeed did drive to his destination, double back home, etc. That would take some careful calculation to cover up the additional driving (and maybe another purchase) when compared to the receipts, in my opinion. We'd still need to know exactly where this hotel is.

I'm wondering back to Rhett Fussell who said JY left to get a "head start". What about Danville ? It is 84 miles to the house, roughly the same distance to Blacksburg VA - Duffield could be on the way to Brevard. So if JY fills up in Raleigh - drives to danville 84 miles, roundtrip to raliegh and back in the middle of the night 170 (total 254) to Blacksburg (total 344) to Duffield - right at 400 miles - within the range of the Explorer's capacity.... possible ?

Hampton Inn in Abingdon, VA:

340 Commerce Dr
Abingdon, Virginia, United States, 24211
1-276-619-4600

Anyone feeling gutsy enough to call and ask if JY stayed there on 11/2?
