Lansing — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is allowing auto suppliers and other manufacturers to resume operations on Monday, one week ahead of the May 18 production restart planned by General Motors Co.. Ford Motor Co. and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV.

My first missed Art Fair in 30 years. Sad but totally the right move, IMO.

We used to go annually until about 10 years ago. It was very hot, I got dizzy, fainted, and was treated at a First Aid station. Decided that attending the Ann Arbor Art Fair wasn't worth the health risk.

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan restaurants and bars are pushing Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to let them reopen for dine-in service on May 29.

An industry group on Friday released a “roadmap” to reopening, with guidance such as requiring masks for workers and keeping tables and bar stools 6 feet apart...

DH and I have been patient but feel that Michigan needs to begin getting back to normal by the end of the month. The state will have been basically shut down for 10 weeks by then, and it seems more than long enough to keep us safe. Michiganders have done an exemplary job of social distancing, wearing masks, staying home, and it's time to move forward from this stay-at-home order. I feel certain that most people will continue to observe social distancing, good hygiene, wear masks, etc., but we really need to restore some sort of normalcy in our everyday lives. DH and I will avoid large gatherings, malls, concerts, etc., and we probably won't get to a Tiger game this season, but it would be nice to enjoy dinner out occasionally, and we both need haircuts, manicures, and pedicures.

I was so happy to see golf courses open. We needed this. Yes, precautions need to be taken but it is time to let us decide what level we are comfortable with. Mr Pirate and I are the same, we will be cautious and avoid crowded venues but we will be the first ones out on the patio of an open restaurant!!! Masks, social distancing etc. of course. MOO

Mackinac Bridge Labor Day walk canceled this year

The Mackinac Bridge's annual Labor Day walk is being canceled this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mackinac Bridge Authority announced Wednesday.

The bridge authority's board voted unanimously at an online meeting to call off the walk, held every Labor Day since 1958, the year after the span over the Straits of Mackinac opened to traffic.

Board Chairman Patrick "Shorty" Gleason said the suspension is for the 2020 event only and he expects the walk to resume in 2021...

The Governor will evaluate the results of next week's openings after two weeks to determine how to proceed with the next group of openings - restaurants, hair/nail salons, gyms, etc. Outdoor dining might end up with more than 10 people that is the limit for gatherings at this time.

Thank you, BDE. All good here. I have a restaurant/bar across the road from me that I can see re-opening. It has a patio, and it would easily be possible to only have 10 or less people out there. I can see though, in the metro Detroit area, that it will be much more difficult.

I am torn on what is going on in MI. Not a critique of the governor as she is between a rock and a hard place. But so am I! I live in SE MI. I can go a couple hours north and hit up the bars, restaurants..following social distance rules set forth. I can do the same by driving 45 minutes south to OH. My area was hit hard, thus the decision to hold off. But I just wonder if it is just putting the bars and restaurants here in a disadvantage. I mean I know it is! And speaking specifically about the counties Up North, are they safe with what will be an exodus north? Typically in MI the wagon train north on any given Friday afternoon is huge. Up North is like our "Jersey Shore"...we flock there and think nothing of the drive. Given the nature of Michiganders to 'mingle' about the state, maybe it should all be open so as to not encourage those here to flock north to the lesser infected areas. Who have less medical resources.......
Anyways, please know that I am not saying this because I am itching to go to a bar or restaurant. I have an analytical mind that is a little bored this morning.
Thoughts? Not from a political or governors decision point of view but from a virus spreading kind of angle.
Sorry for the ramble. Refer to above, I am bored. Its rainy, I have three days off for a holiday we are not camping on and well......yes.
