85 people connected to Michigan bar test positive for coronavirus

The Ingham County Health Department is asking anyone who visited Harper's Restaurant & Brewpub, outside of Michigan State University, between June 12-20 to self-quarantine.

Coronavirus cases linked to crowds who visited a Michigan bar after it reopened have risen to 85, according to health officials.

The Ingham County Health Department is asking anyone who visited Harper's Restaurant & Brewpub, outside of Michigan State University in East Lansing, between June 12 and 20, to self-quarantine for two weeks.

As of Saturday, 85 people who visited the bar between those dates or have come in contact with people who did have tested positive for coronavirus...

I would not be surprised if Governor Whitmer walks back reopening bars and/or restaurants after this fiasco.

Woodward Dream Cruise canceled over COVID-19 concerns

The 26th annual Woodward Dream Cruise is canceled for this year.

According to its website, all community events that were planned for the occasion, including the Aug. 15 Dream Cruise itself, are canceled due to public health concerns of COVID-19.

The decision was made on Monday after the Dream Cruise posted on Facebook earlier in the month that the event was still "in neutral."...

Whitmer sets guidelines, offers $256M to help schools reopen in fall

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer released guidelines Tuesday for how Michigan's K-12 schools should reopen in the fall and said her administration would provide $256 million to help districts implement their local plans.

Whitmer's latest executive order requires school districts to adopt a COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan laying out how they will protect students and educators across the various phases of the Michigan Safe Start Plan. The order notes that schools will be shut to visitors — except family members in "extenuating circumstances" — and will be restricted to essential personnel for teaching and feeding students.

Whitmer's plan also suggests that athletics and extracurricular activities will not be offered in the fall in regions that are in Phase 3 of the governor's economic reopening plan. The executive order said private and public schools must develop reopening plans that "suspend athletics, after-school activities, inter-school activities (e.g., debate competitions) and busing."...

Lansing — School life in Michigan — from athletics to riding the bus to wearing masks in classrooms — will depend on how much or little the COVID-19 virus is raging through regions of the state come the first day of school.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer released guidelines Tuesday for how Michigan's K-12 schools should reopen in the fall and said her administration would provide $256 million to help districts implement their local plans.

Depending on the phases of the Michigan Safe Start Plan, the governor's reopening playbook, students and teachers must wear masks most of the time except for eating.

Desks must be spaced six feet apart in classrooms and all arranged facing the same direction toward the front of the classroom. Teachers should maintain six feet of spacing between themselves and students as much as possible.

Visitors — even family members — won't be allowed in schools except in emergencies as decided by administrators.

Cleaning requirements say frequently touched surfaces — including light switches, doors, benches and bathrooms — must undergo cleaning at least every four hours with either an Environmental Protection Agency-approved disinfectant or diluted bleach solution.

Athletics would be allowed but with restrictions. Large indoor spectator events would remain suspended. Large outdoor spectator or stadium events would be limited to 100 people, and people not part of the same household must maintain six feet of distance...

Lansing — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is considering downgrading certain regions of the state on her coronavirus phase scale, meaning more restrictions would be reimposed because of an increase in cases.

Whitmer said Tuesday that lower Michigan will not move forward from Phase 4 to Phase 5 before July 4, though she expressed hope earlier this month for as much. Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula are already in Phase 5, which has allowed the reopening of limited-capacity indoor movie theaters and gyms subject to safety procedures designed to minimize the spread of the virus...

Henry Ford Health System officials report a study done by the health system shows the controversial anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine helps lower the death rate of COVID-19 patients.

Heads of the Michigan health system said Thursday the study found the drug “significantly” decreased the death rate of patients.

The study analyzed 2,541 patients hospitalized among the system’s six hospitals between March 10 and May 2 and found 13% of those treated with hydroxychloroquine died while 26% of those who did not receive the drug died...

Red Robin in Clinton Township closes after employees test positive for COVID-19

Ownership believes employees caught virus at basement party

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Red Robin restaurant in Clinton Township closed after two employees tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). Ownership believes the employees caught the virus weeks ago at a basement party.

The Red Robin on Hall Road east of Hayes Road shut down Sunday and spent the last several days closed for cleaning. It got full disinfecting treatments Sunday and Monday.

It’s now open only for curbside service...

While we haven't been there for several years, DH and I, my siblings, niece and nephew used to meet at this Red Robin location occasionally because it was halfway in between us and family members who lived on the "east side". We celebrated 4 January birthdays and an early February birthday at RR a few times and enjoyed the fun, high-energy atmosphere.

COVID-19 puts damper on Michigan's lodging industry

The welcome mat is out at hotels and resorts across Michigan this holiday weekend, but the guest experience will be far different, just like everything else in this coronavirus world.

Signs will remind you to wear masks, practice social distancing and use hand sanitizer. Plexiglas will likely separate you from the mask-wearing staff at the registration desk. At major chain hotels, guests can use hotel apps to check in, unlock their rooms during their stay, and check out.

Fliers, brochures and other materials touting guest services and regional amenities are gone from rooms. Glassware and ceramic mugs have been replaced by disposable cups. The coffee maker might be in the room, but the components to make coffee will not. You’ll have to ask for them. Mini-bars? Ice machines? Likely not in use. And don’t expect breakfast buffets...

LANSING, Mich. – Ingham County health officials announced Saturday multiple coronavirus (COVID-19) cases linked to a Lansing veterinary clinic, with even more people likely exposed.

Officials say at least three people who visited Riverfront Animal Hospital between June 23-July 2 have tested positive for the virus.

Anyone who went to the clinic between those dates should watch for COVID-19 symptoms, which may develop up to 14 days after exposure, officials said...
