Broad mask order will expire July 1

Michigan rolls back mask requirements for fully vaccinated people (detroitnews.com)

Lansing — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's administration announced Friday it will lift mask requirements for fully vaccinated individuals through a new epidemic order that represents a milestone in the state's fight against COVID-19.

The new policy will take effect at 9 a.m. Saturday and follows guidance from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.Whitmer's administration also revealed that the broad indoor mask mandate will expire July 1...

It's fascinating how both sides have such a fluid definition of "science." When CDC suggested masks, Whitmer mandated them. When CDC says they aren't necessary, Whitmer keeps them in place. I was surprised to see that even Oregon pulled the plug, yesterday.

I suspect this will put store workers in a more difficult spot, when fully vaxed people now refuse to wear masks and get belligerent.

I am so tired of hearing people talk about "the science" Actually, I've had enough with discussion of Covid day after day after day for more than a year. Time to move on.

I'm sure you're right about confrontations in businesses where patrons might still be required to wear masks. It won't be pretty :(

BDE, I couldn’t agree more. Thanks for posting this latest article.
I am hoping the next step is opening our state up a bit faster than the current plan. MOO

I was perusing Whitmer's twitter feed and was shocked that the majority of comments reflected an obsession with "unvaccinated" people lying in order to not wear masks. It seems to speak to something that I, personally, find disturbing. It turns out that those that were (and are) most vocal about telling everyone else what to do, were basing it all on emotion. The CDC's latest guidance is such a wonderful, evidence-based affirmation of the vaccine's efficacy, yet the most vocal proponents appear to have missed the message and are focused on something that does not present a risk. Anyway, cheers to Governor Whitmer for realizing it's time to pull the plug.

LIST: Which Michigan stores still require masks to enter - and which don’t? (clickondetroit.com)

Mask mandate lifted for fully vaccinated in Michigan

While the mask mandate has been lifted for fully vaccinated people in Michigan, businesses can still enforce a mask policy.

As of May 15, fully vaccinated Michigan residents don’t have to wear a mask in most indoor or outdoor settings, but local communities and businesses can keep mask rules in effect. The move came after the CDC issued new guidance on face covering for COVID-19.

Stores that have dropped mask requirements are strongly urging people who are high risk or unvaccinated to wear a mask while shopping. If you don’t see a store listed below, check the door before entering -- most have their policy posted there...

Certain Governors must have been begging for cover, considering how quickly they pulled the plug after the new guidance. I haven't noticed any difference - my favorite were the folks doing the under-nose-mask thing, in Walmart. It's like they are stuck in the middle!

I think lifting the mask mandate so abruptly was premature. People who didn't like wearing a mask and/or those who do not plan to get vaccinated aren't going to wear masks in public venues that don't require them. I also think that there is no longer any incentive for people to get vaccinated when everyone can be in public without a mask. Those who are vaccinated might be protected from the virus, but unvaccinated people can still spread Covid among themselves, and the disease will take longer to run its course. CDC jumped the gun on this. JMO

I really think these dominos started falling when Fauci talked about vaccinated people having to keep living like it was 2020. That seemed to signal a sea change in attitudes. It was either "if I have to keep masking and distancing after being vaccinated, then what's the point?" Or "does that mean the vaccine doesn't work?" Either way, that's when everything seemed to change and people online started really pushing Governors of closed states to reopen.

I am really surprised at how quickly everything changed after last week's announcement, in term of places dropping mandates. I still see masks everywhere, here, even though Governor pulled that plug a couple months ago, so not sure how many minds have been changed. I heard the Wynn, in Vegas, had all signage down within an hour or Sisolak's announcement.

Whitmer officials expected to ease more Michigan COVID-19 restrictions (detroitnews.com)

Lansing — Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's administration is expected to announce plans to relax additional COVID-19 restrictions this week as the state's metrics for tracking the spread of the virus continue to improve.

The governor will reveal the new policies by the end of the week, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the plans. Whitmer's spokesman didn't immediately respond Wednesday morning to a request for comment.

The adjustments will come after a surge in infections ended this spring, as temperatures warm and as more Michigan residents get their COVID-19 vaccinations. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also continues to ease its guidance amid a pandemic that's lasted for longer than a year...

Gov. Whitmer outlines Michigan’s new schedule for lifting COVID rules, getting life ‘back to normal’ (clickondetroit.com)

State adjusts MI Vacc To Normal plan

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Gretchen Whitmer officially revealed Michigan’s new schedule for eliminating COVID restrictions and returning to normal.

On Wednesday, the governor’s office hinted that the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services would update its pandemic order after the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention made changes to its recommendations for fully vaccinated people.

Less than 24 hours later, Whitmer held a COVID briefing and announced a revised MI Vacc To Normal plan as cases decline and the number of vaccinated residents rises...

Whitmer lifts outdoor event limits on June 1, broad restrictions on July 1 (detroitnews.com)

Midland — Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer accelerated plans to lift COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings Thursday, detailing her intention to end broad statewide mandates limiting outdoor crowds and requiring masks.

The governor spoke from home plate at Dow Diamond in Midland, where she revealed that outdoor capacity limits disappear June 1. The policy means the Detroit Tigers will be able to host larger crowds at their home games this summer instead of the current limit of 8,200 people.

In addition to lifting outdoor capacity limits June 1, Whitmer said indoor capacity limits also will rise to 50% for the month of June — affecting events such as weddings and entertainment events. She later added that the 11 p.m. curfew for restaurants and bars also would end starting next month.

The state will lift the broad mask and gathering orders July 1, she said...

Curfew on Michigan restaurants, bars will be lifted June 1 (clickondetroit.com)

Restaurants, bars currently have 11 p.m. curfew

LANSING, Mich. – The curfew on Michigan restaurants and bars will be lifted during the first step of the state’s new plan for fully reopening.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer‘s office outline a new version of the “MI Vacc To Normal” plan Thursday, and Local 4 has confirmed that restaurants and bars will no longer be required to follow a curfew, starting June 1.

Right now, all bars and restaurants are required to stop offering indoor dining by 11 p.m. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services initially implemented a 10 p.m. curfew in November, and it has since been pushed back an hour...

Health experts concerned Michigan may loosen COVID restrictions too soon (clickondetroit.com)

As of May 21, 2021, only 25% of Detroiters are fully vaccinated.

The city is preparing for an influx of people as capacity limits will be eased June 1. A month later, mask mandates and gathering limits will be lifted for everyone, regardless of vaccination status.

Health experts are concerned...

It would be nice to also know the number of people who have had their first vaccination. That would give an indication of whether or not there is any significant resistance to getting vaccinated.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer apologizes after violating indoor dining restrictions (nbcnews.com)

"Because we were all vaccinated, we didn't stop to think about it," the governor said. "I am human. I made a mistake, and I apologize."

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer apologized Sunday after she was seen in a photo with a dozen people at a bar — violating her own order restricting indoor dining to no more than six people at a table.

"Yesterday, I went with friends to a local restaurant. As more people arrived, the tables were pushed together," the governor explained in a statement, according to NBC affiliate WDIV of Detroit. "Because we were all vaccinated, we didn't stop to think about it. In retrospect, I should have thought about it. I am human. I made a mistake, and I apologize."...

Michigan employers don't have to require masks for vaccinated workers (detroitnews.com)

Grand Rapids — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's administration announced updates Monday to emergency rules guiding Michigan's workplaces as the state continues its rollback of measures meant to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Under the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration's changes, employers may allow fully vaccinated workers to go without face coverings and social distancing as long as they have polices to ensure non-vaccinated people continue to follow requirements.

The decision of how to handle the updated rules is up to individual workplaces. Whitmer described the new standards as "slimmed down" compared with the previous ones...

It was only a matter of time. I wouldn't be surprised to find she's been living large the whole time. And, of course, she instinctively pulled a Gav Newsom and started making excuses. It was relatively refreshing when our Governor (Ducey), and his son, were caught violating rules a couple of times, and he ignored the whole thing, as if to say "you all know I think this whole thing is a lot of nonsense." In comparison, Newsom and Whitmer come across like "do you proles really think these rules apply to US?" It's just a terrible look.
