It was a wild night last night. Tornado sirens blaring for quite a while.

I finally got our TV up on the local channels and a Tornado was just south of us. It hit a small town of Linwood, KS. There was a huge green house there that I used to work in the office. It is now gone. Plus many home demolished.

They found debris over in MO at the airport KCI and had to shut it down. Had to clean up the runway so the debris wasn't sucked up into the planes.

There were injuries in Douglas County, KS by Lawrence. Thank goodness no deaths reported so far and I pray that it stays that way.

After tornado hammers Linwood, dozens of homes are ‘all gone,’ mayor says

Oh! Too close to home, Jasper! I hope it is all done for a long time . Scary times

Hope everyone stays safe with the bad weather tonight. Sounds like a lot of us are in for some of the same nasty weather we have been having lately.

I do have a question if anyone knows.

Is there a good national weather map link that would show "Shear"?

I use a national weather map and it is a good one but it does not show the "Shear" that happens when there is circular movement of the air and winds are going in opposite directions.

My local weather man has a nice feature called "Shear" and it shows Green color on one side and a Red color on the other when winds are going in opposite direction.

It was easy to spot the area of a possible tornadoe with that "Shear" option. I have not been able to find a good current weather map that has that "Shear" button.

Mine has a lightning button that I can turn on or off and other buttons but it does not have that neat "Shear" button I saw my weatherman using.

I am trying to find a good weather map to have handy that gives the "shear" as an option to select on the map.

If anyone knows of one that gives that I would appreciate a link to the weather map.

Thanks in advance if you know of one.
And stay safe everyone.

I like this site for the different layers you can see.. check the "wind speed". it is similar to windy.com, but seems easier to find what I want.

One of the leading proponents of chaser safety, and a highly respected tour company owner, took a hit in Linwood and 2 of his vans were rolled by a satellite tornado. 12 of the 17 reported injuries were his people. It’s been a big deal in the chaser community.
Storm-chasing tour had a ‘very unfortunate incident’ with a Kansas tornado. No one saw it coming.

I was following that night online. NWS office in KC told their media partners (i.e. tv weatherfolk) to use the strongest language possible to get people to take shelter. It was very intense.

It’s phenomenal that there weren’t more injuries or worse. The NWS and their EM and media partners did a hell of a job with the warnings.

It was sunny when I got up this morning, and it is sunny now, but there was a clap of thunder that shook the house about an hour ago. It rained lightly for about 10 minutes. Storms in the forecast this afternoon and evening. I hope people who are downtown for the Detroit Grand Prix will be safe.

Paul Gross: Thunderstorms, torrential downpours to begin developing Saturday afternoon

Storms could bring hail, strong wind gusts

Looks like it might hail here.

The farming situation is dire here, and it will affect the entire country. Because of the constant rain and flooding, over half of our fields have not yet been planted. This will be devastating. One farmer I spoke to said he’s never seen anything like it in his life.

Michigan summer outlook 2019: What's up with our weather, what to expect

You’re sick of it. I’m sick of it. And you know what I’m talking about. It seems that we just can’t catch a break from Mother Nature.

Since April 1st, we have had only two stretches of three consecutive days without rain. One of them was April 1st through 3rd. And it has rained on most of our weekends...

Forecast

An Air Quality Alert, a.k.a. an Ozone Action Day, is in effect for Detroit and Southeast Michigan!

Welcome to Thursday, Motown!

Mother Nature turns up the heat and humidity today through Saturday.

Thursday morning is warm under fair skies. Temps start in the 60s and low 70s.

Sunrise is at 6:13 a.m. ET.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible later today, and it becomes hotter. Highs in the low 90s with heat indices near 95 degrees.

There is a Marginal Risk of strong to severe storms with heavy downpours, frequent lightning and damaging wind and hail.

Do what you can to limit air pollution by carpooling, taking the bus and taking a break from mowing the lawn.

Always hydrate or stay indoors to stay healthy and cool. Keep kids and pets away from empty vehicles. - @AndrewHumphrey

I am fine with the weather here so far this year, have only had one day over 90. Lots of rain, very cool weather this summer. No fires, no smoke! That is fine with me.
