You can buy one for $29.99, which is $10.00 off the regular price.

Weather radios are for more than just tornadoes and severe storms. You can program your weather radio to warn you about anything from Flood Warnings to Wind Chill Advisories to Winter Storm Warnings.

The alerts don’t stop with the weather: your weather radio can also be programmed to alert you to a serious nuclear incident (think Fermi II), a hazmat situation necessitating a large evacuation, an emergency message from the president, and Amber Alerts.

The National Weather Service has issued small flood advisories for Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties until 6 p.m.

Despite Harsh Winter, Michigan Cherry Crops Stay Strong

TRAVERSE CITY (WWJ) — Michigan cherry and grape farmers have been waiting to see what effect last winter’s brutal cold and above average snowfall had on their crops.

The tough winter with its brutal cold affected the rest of us, but its effect on Michigan cash crops, like cherries, has been minimal according to grower Marc Santucci, who said his trees are loaded with tart cherries.

“The winter really didn’t hurt them that much,” Santucci said. “Only the youngest trees were damaged at all.” ...

Michigan prepares for brutal season of blood-sucking ticks and mosquitoes

If it feels as though you can’t go out in the yard without getting covered in bug bites, you’re not alone.

Experts say Michigan is in for a brutal season for blood-sucking ticks and mosquitoes, which raises the risk of certain illnesses. Other bugs, such as bees, wasps, mayflies and spiders have returned to Metro Detroit as well.

This past winter’s extreme cold will have little effect on most bug populations in the state this summer, said Howard Russell, a Michigan State University entomologist known as “The Bug Man.”

The heavy snowfall, on the other hand, was beneficial to some creepy crawlers. It served as an insulating blanket for bugs, such as ticks, that live in the leaf litter and at the base of trees. “The snow provided a great barrier against the cold,” he said...

Oh No, I have to disagree, your Show Me mosquitoes are nasty. The 1st time I visited relatives ( many yrs ago, in the 7th grade) I was bitten so bad, they swelled up hugh. My aunt said it happened to her the 1st yr when they moved down there. Your mosquitoes suck! But your state is beautiful (Lake of the Ozarks).

Double Tornadoes Sweep Across Eastern Nebraska

A severe storm system created multiple tornadoes in northeast Nebraska Monday, including simultaneous tornadoes dropping out of a pitch-black sky.

The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado had hit the Omaha/Valley region of the state.

Double Tornadoes Touch Down In Nebraska

Reports of double tornadoes appearing in Nebraska are flooding Twitter. Areas mentioned include Wisner, Pender, and Pilger — all in northeastern Nebraska.

"We do have a tornadic thunderstorm in northeast Nebraska moving toward the Iowa border," National Storm Prediction Center forecaster Bill Bunting told Reuters. "It's obviously a very dangerous situation in those areas."
