We had over 77,000 without power in Northwest Indiana. We personally lost power for 12 hours. Two squall lines of storms came through, and the second was worse than the first. I woke DH at 11PM and made him go down to the basement with me, because the weather radio said there was a tornado heading our way. After sitting in the dark for 20 minutes, he went back to bed, but we both ended up not getting much sleep.

I love storms, but as I get older, they scare me more than thrill me.

According to National Weather Service records, the average daily highs for July 14 and 15 are 87 and 88 degrees respectively, with average daily lows of 56 and 57 degrees...

Author: Derick Hutchinson, ClickOnDetroit.com

Published On: Jul 20 2014 02:03:01 PM EDT

DETROIT -
SEMCOG, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, announced Sunday that Monday is the first ozone action day of the year. There were three ozone action days in 2013 and 20 in 2012.

Summer-like conditions are returning to southeast Michigan for the next few days, which brings plenty of sunshine, warm temperatures and increased humidity to the area. Weak winds will come from the south/southwest Sunday into Monday. The moisture moving in allows humidity levels to rise...

Air quality today is awful  I stepped outdoors this afternoon to water my flowers that looked a bit droopy and could hardly catch my breath. The air is so thick that it looked like there was smoke in the wooded area behind our home. The temperature is 91* with high humidity. For anyone with asthma, COPD, etc., it's best to stay indoors.

Did global warming cause the 'Great Flood of 2014?'

Author: Paul Gross, Local 4 Meteorologist, @PaulGrossLocal4

Published On: Aug 19 2014 07:40:42 AM EDT

DETROIT -
People have been asking me if last week’s historic flood was caused by global warming.

The short answer is NO, but read on because this answer requires an explanation.

Weather systems develop all the time, and have been doing so for as long as we’ve had weather on this planet. The weather system that developed and dumped a once-every-500-year rain event on metro Detroit last week may have developed anyway...

writing from Central Iowa. Its been in the low to mid 80s most of the week with what seems to be never ending rain the past two weeks. I've never seen it rain this much before during this time of the year

  • #574
We get about 20 drops and it just keeps circling around but not on us. We could use a little rain (SE corner of Michigan)

Wild weather here last night  We got more than 2" of rain in just a few hours. Lots of lightning and high winds, too. Power outages, downed wires, trees in many areas, but we fared well in that department.

  • #576
Yay, power back on. Been out since last night. Slept thru the storm.

Hope you get your service back soon. I know how you're feeling, I was miserable yesterday. We have crappy Dish TV, we don't need a Weather Alert, as soon as it thunders, lightenings, or the wind blows harder than 10mph,Dish tv goes out. Last night 2 mins. after landlady left to get ice, power came back on. Winter isn't far away now.:gaah:
