Slight risk for severe weather Wednesday

Isolated tornadoes, large hail possible

Author: Brandon Roux, Local 4 Meteorologist , [email protected]

Published On: Sep 10 2014 04:27:26 AM EDT Updated 56 m

DETROIT -
Today is one of those days we all need to prepare for because more heavy rain is slowly on its way here . We are under a slight risk for severe weather this afternoon but the rain could begin as early as 11 a.m. or noon.

Highs could reach the upper 70s to near 80 degrees before the wet weather arrives. Warm winds will be blowing SE 5-15 mph this morning and SW 10-20 at times this afternoon.

A line of potentially strong storms bring the possibility of gusty and damaging winds, a few cold air funnels, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. The greatest risks are for damaging winds and local flash flooding...

Our house looks like an arboretum. We tented the garden with plastic and tarps. Originally the forecast was for a dusting, then it bumped to 1-3 and now it is 3-6. Last October 4th we had the same forecast and got 5 1/2 ft. :(

Holy Moley, I sure hope you are ready for this. I think I should be grateful we don't have snow in September!

You, as well. Do they have warning sirens where you live?

Yes. The sirens are "tested" on the first Saturday of each month at 1:00PM when they sound for several minutes.

It got so cold in the house yesterday that we had to turn on the furnace  Right now, it's just 50*, and it probably won't get above 60* today.

When DH and I saw this tornado report on local news last evening, we couldn't believe that there was a tornado less than six miles north of us  There had been storms in the area during the night, but there was never any indication or warning about possible tornadoes, and we never heard emergency sirens. :scared:

Greetings from soggy Mackinac Island. DH and I had hoped for a nice long weekend on the charming island in northern Michigan, but it started raining about half-way up I-75 (2 hours) and hasn't really stopped. It is so foggy that we can't see across the lake to the mainland that is usually visible from the condos where we stay. It's also windy with temps getting into the low 60s today.

There is supposed to be a break in the rain late this afternoon, so we might take the horse-drawn shuttle into town for dinner. Until then, we'll spend the day hanging out in our cozy loft condo, watch TV, and read.
