Enhanced convective outlook today for numerous states:
Chicago, IL...Detroit, MI...Milwaukee, WI...Toledo, OH...Fort Wayne, IN...

Slight:
Kansas City, MO...Cleveland, OH...Minneapolis, MN...Buffalo, NY...St. Paul, MN...

Be careful WS'ers if you're in the above areas. This may get upgraded during the day.

(for info I am an avid storm-chasing fan - I find severe storms & tornadoes totally enthralling, especially when they're in the middle of nowhere with no loss of life / damage) :)

The :fireworks: display on the Detroit River is scheduled for tonight at 10:06PM. The annual event draws thousands of visitors to the downtown area. The current forecast calls for storms in metro-Detroit between 4:00 and 7:00 that would not impact the fireworks show. Storm trackers will be reviewing radar throughout the day and will cancel the event if there are storms in the downtown area later this evening. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/ne...ys-fireworks-cap-river-days-weekend/29086015/

^ I hope your power comes back soon, Irisha. Heavy rain in north-suburban Detroit from @4:00-5:00PM yesterday. Cleared up for the remainder of the evening until after midnight when there was lightning, thunder, and more rain. Watched the fireworks display on Channel 4. Wish they had waited another 10-15 minutes and started when it was darker. Here's the rerun link for anyone who didn't see it live: http://www.clickondetroit.com/commu...-broadcast-ford-fireworks-on-june-22/33629662

Isn't it wild how we know about all these low-magnitude quakes that most people don't even feel? Technology shows us more about the world we live in every day.

Head's up to WS'ers over the pond - some severe weather being talked about over there today (severe weather is one of my interests/hobbies) - be aware over there!

(and for those also interested but not near the affected areas, this link is good - chasers have been driving through the night to get in position https://tvnweather.com/live/)

Be safe! :grouphug:

'November Witch' Brews Nasty Weather Over Nation's Midsection

by M. Alex Johnson

It's called the "Witch of November," and it's casting its spell on millions — threatening severe gusty winds and thunderstorms across the Upper Midwest and Ohio Valley through Friday.

The November Witch is what meteorologists call the powerful low-pressure weather system that's already spawned 10 suspected tornadoes, flooded streets and knocked out power to tens of thousands across Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri. Parts of the Rockies saw up to a foot of snow Wednesday.

The phenomenon — which is brewed up when intense low pressure clashes with a pocket of high pressure — is what sank the ship memorialized in "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" 40 years ago...

We had 71 mph winds here. There's a limb down in my driveway but that's all (as far as I can see) thankfully. I should have that cleaned up in the next hour. Two years ago in November and about 10 miles from here they had an (I heard) EF5 tornado that swept homes away right down to the foundation.

Really wicked winds are yet to arrive in Metro Detroit. For now, the winds are steady at 20-30 mph but stronger winds are predicted as the day progresses. Sporadic power outages in the tri-county area (Macomb, Oakland, Wayne). Upside to the "witch" is that there won't be any leaves left to fall, so we can finish fall cleanup this weekend :D Be safe.
