Mildred Louise Vilott was the first female attorney for Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, OK, when she went to Kansas City to give a seminar on document retention. But before she could do it, she was found dead in her hotel room on the 9th floor of the Alameda Plaza hotel. She had been shot in the head.

A gaudy ring and her credit cards were missing. But the credit cards were never used, and she still had on her expensive watch. She may have been involved in a probe of higher ups at her company. Her husband had been cheating on her since before they were married, and had nagged her to take out life insurance. So there were many trails to follow.

DNA evidence in the case has been lost. They do still have a bullet and fingerprint.

Here are a couple of articles on the murder.
