Miley Cyrus Embarrassed by Vanity Fair Photo Shoot - Racy Photos

Barbara Walters kind of sneered about it this morning on the news when they said her parents did not know about the photos. I like Miley, we watch Hannah Montana all the time, my son loves it.

She's 15. You would have seen far more had she been in a swim suit.
Linda, my mom said the same exact thing. She's watching one of them gossip shows and yells into me "Oh, come on I see way more than that on Wildwood's beach." True dat. I have no opinion. Man, I am so glad I'm past all that stuff. I think the photographs were intended for "the world" to see that this singer/actress can take on more mature roles. She can't be Hannah Montana forever.

Exactly!

I may be just a bit dumb, but she is a celebrity. And as a celebrity, you become the business. It's money, and they (aren't we all) out to make as much of it as we can. Covering herself now keeps all the "let's boycott" people at bay. I can also bet she didn't feel "exploited" one bit until the stink was raised by someone. There are plenty of other Disney stars lately that are getting in the spotlight for crazy stuff, remember Vanessa Hudgens a few months back? We've all forgotten it or felt sorry for her.

I can almost guarantee that if there was no stink on the national media about this, there'd not be ONE person outraged. Or think it's "🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬" or probably anything other than pretty. Without the stink, I doubt that "45 year old pedophiles" would even KNOW it's in the stupid magazine! I'm doubting that there's too many of them with yearly subscriptions to Vanity Fair.

There are 12 and 13 year olds in Cosmogirl and Seventeen wearing MUCH worse stuff WITHOUT anything underneath it. Yet we hear nothing about it. If you're going to throw a fit over one magazine (that is KNOWN for their shots), then they should CENSOR ALL of them and make them show nothing but fully clothed -- and by that I mean no shorts, skirts, short sleeved/sleeveless shirts, and bare midriffs -- or shut down.

Thank God I have boys - they wouldn't know Hannah Montana if they tripped over her!

You just have young boys, SCM. If they were older, they would notice just like my dd notices the Jonas Brothers.

The following information was taken from the May 5th People magazine:

Miley sold $50 million ticket sales for her recent tour (she gets an estimated $1 million per week), she made 6.5 million in albums sold and $1 billion projected fiscal year 2007-2008 sale of Hannah Montana merchandise, which she ges an unknown percentage for. Shes; also sigend a seven-figure deal for a book about her family and her recent movie grossed $65 million. She earned roughly $17.5 million from the tour alone!

As far as the photos, isn't it enough that she's making millions w/ her music??? As a mother of a 12 yr old dd, I thought the photos of her w/ her dad were totally inappropriate. Her dad is turning her into a little sexy idol and I'm quite disappointed that he did stoop so low. It's one thing is she was of age and chose to pose, but she's only 15 and her innocent American Girl image has been shattered. Shame on her parents!

I think people shouldn't let the children idolize "stars" ...parents all too often feel cheated. It isn't Rileys job to give other peoples children someone to look up to. She's 15, not 12! There was NOTHING trashy about those photo's. Your children are going to be indoctrinated to the world by someone...it should be YOU! Not some tv star.

I understand what you're saying, but most girls posing in Cosmogirl and Seventeen are just that. They aren't anyone special but the girl next door who happened to get a modeling job. Miley has a large fan club of vulnerable little girls wanting more than anything to be just like her. She is a role model to them, unlike a model in a magazine. Girls relate to her and want to dress and be her. Posing w/ just a sheet around her was not a role model I wish for my own dd. As far as those magazines, she's not allowed to view those either.

Please see my above post and pretend it was posted in responce to this post!

I thought they were beautiful and not slutty at all. I saw nothing more than a beautiful 15 year old girl. *I* didn't think she looked "sexy."
I thought it looked like art.

My 10 year old son...is glassy eyed and giggly. The thought of her naked under that sheet is blowing his mind...considering the girls in his class adore her and it's one of the few shows I allow him to watch, it's been quite the topic today! ...I saw no reason to hide it from him. We talked about it because while he was SHOCKED and thought it was trashy ....he admits to really LIKE looking at the photo. He said, "if she was my girlfriend, I'd be really mad at her, but since she isn't...it isn't that bad...I guess".

Linda, I'm with you. I think that they're pretty much a big to do about nothing. The final photo is beautiful AND the only skin show is her BACK. I've seen gowns and swimsuits to reveal far more skin. It's the illusion and perception of nudity that has people concerned, the reality is nothing was shown that is really all that inappropriate.

Sort of reminds me of the argument when Tiger was coming up ... everyone expected him to be this big role model and refuse to play in tournaments. It wasn't his job to right every wrong of the last 200 years simply because he was a popular male black athlete.

Off topic but I just saw a photograph of Tiger's baby. C-U-T-E. He's Korean as well Golfmom. I'm just messing with ya.

Of course my dd is indoctrinated to the world by me and her family. No, it isn't Miley's job to give children someone to look up to, but girls are still going to follow her because of who she is. Just like all the others before her. You can't stop your children from knowing about them, but you can instill in them your morals. All children will have idolized stars at one time or other, I know I did and I bet the majority of others here did.

As far as the picture, I just felt that the one of her on his lap was not done in good taste. JMO!

Bet he was dressed up and not just covered in the front with a sheet!

Maybe we should. Obviously we got on this slippery slope at some point, and now it seems perfectly reasonable to see our little girls with so much skin showing.

Why do we think it's OK for these underage models to be so scantily dressed? Maybe it's time to ask where these overtly sexualized images of children are getting us.

I'm not saying to bring on the witch hunts, but it would be nice if we could, as a society, move away from slapping, "For Sale" signs on our kids, which is what it tends to look like when we dress them like prostitutes.

IMHO
We can't have it both ways. I mean we can't say it's okay for her to pose that way and then get upset that grown men in Texas had sex with underage girls at a religious compound.

Why do men do things like this? Am I crazy or alone in thinking that we just add fuel to the fire by exploiting young girls in this way?

As adults, those over 21, we have got a choice as to what we want to do with our bodies. Fifteen is JUST TOO YOUNG! You don't know what you want and you are too scared to say what you really think in most cases.

I believe that her FATHER, should have nixed that picture!

Art is one thing, but come on! We don't need to get our appreciation of art in this way..I say go to an art museum.

I guess I am a bit riled up today. I just heard on the news that of the 50 some odd teenage girls that left that Texas FLDS compound 31 of them are now pregnant or have had children already! These are girls under the age of 15!

I say the picture of MC was too provocative. I also say that if you are okay with that kind of thing then don't get outraged at the terrible sexual acts being perpetuated on young children.

We are either for them or against them.

I for one am sick and tired of grown men getting their kicks with young underage children!

Those grown men in TX are having sex with teenagers that do not have ANY skin showing except on their face and hands.

I have read this entire thread and agree with most. I'm glad my kids have grown up.

I have to say that when I first saw the photos today, I didn't think much of them until I saw Billy Ray! What's with this guy? Maybe if he wasn't so busy getting prepped for his own photo op he would have been there in more of a supervisory role. I think that photo of him and his daughter is absolutely ridiculous and totally unnecessary.

Seems like Billy Ray is caught up in it all. I remember seeing him on an interview when Hannah Montana first started and he was saying that he was very reluctant to having his daughter get involved in the business. Well...it looks like he's changed his mind.

I don't think anyone is saying that the photos were of questionable taste, especially for her age. However, she (and by that I mean not only her but all the people behind her scenes) knows her business and knows she is a business. If her parents/handlers didn't want her doing such things, then they should have refused to take part in the magazine AT ALL. They would know it was coming if they'd ever even looked at one issue of the stupid thing!

Honestly, I think that if you don't like that then you should be writing editors of all the teen girl/boy magazines and DEMANDING they use only fully-clothed models in their shoots. No shorts, skirts, capris, short-sleeved or sleeveless shirts, tanks and DEFINITELY not swimsuits. Only longsleeved shirts and long pants with full shoes -- no sandals. That seems to be what everyone is expecting of Miley -- and remember I'm still peeved at the way they portrayed people that I actually know!

What's the difference in her doing the shoot she did and the girls in the teen mags? NOT ONE THING EXCEPT SHE'S A CELEBRITY WITH A FACE EVERYONE KNOWS! A 15 year old kid and a 45 year old perp would get the same buzz from them as those few pictures that will be out of memory in a week. And they keep swinging those mags out month after month after month -- and we find all that acceptable and have not one problem with it.
