I fully agree on that txvicki but reiterate what I said and I quote "the explosion in the mine is the culprit-not the media or the brave men who tried to save the lost miners..god bless them all!"- I never denied that the company and its safety measures could be at fault... that is for future determination. As for the three hours- I agree it must have been HELL for the families and have empathy more than you know, but I understand the frontline people trying to get the absolute truth before they come back and possibly mess up again. No win situation all around that I think I tried to express in my earlier post. Again, God bless them all.txsvicki said:I will leave that up to the families of the victims to decide because they may want to find out if the safety violations could have caused this. There was anger and outrage in some of the families due to the intentional false hopes that were allowed to go on for quite awhile there. One lady there said it was three hours.
Sorry, don't know what the deal is, the bulletin popped up and I copied the link, but nothing!Linda7NJ said:Link is not working for me

I like to keep up directly with the AP News Wires...let me check those
awww bless their hearts....indigomood said:"Tell all I'll see them on the other side," read the note found with the body of 51-year-old mine foreman Martin Toler Jr. "It wasn't bad. I just went to sleep. I love you Jr."
Tom Toler, Martin's older brother who worked 30 years in the mine with him, said Thursday that the note was "written very lightly and very loosely" in block letters on the back of an insurance application form his brother had in his pocket.
"I took it to mean that it was written in the final stages," the brother said. "I'd call it more or less scribbling."

It would be fantastic if he responded when he heard his name.
It's all about wait and see; to see if he begins recovering. Sure would be nice to hear some better news.scandi said:You know, I heard a later report, and they said he did this twice today ~ the doctor calling his name and he opened his eyes and looked over at the doctor.
I mentioned I heard the doctor say he knew there was brain damage to the front part of the brain. This is what that lobe controls:
Frontal Lobe:
Most anterior, right under the forehead.
Functions:
How we know what we are doing within our environment (Consciousness).
How we initiate activity in response to our environment.
Judgments we make about what occurs in our daily activities.
Controls our emotional response.
Controls our expressive language.
Assigns meaning to the words we choose.
Involves word associations.
Memory for habits and motor activities.
Observed Problems:
Loss of simple movement of various body parts (Paralysis).
Inability to plan a sequence of complex movements needed to complete multi-stepped tasks, such as making coffee (Sequencing).
Loss of spontaneity in interacting with others.
Loss of flexibility in thinking.
Persistence of a single thought (Perseveration).
Inability to focus on task (Attending).
Mood changes (Emotionally Labile).
Changes in social behavior.
Changes in personality.
Difficulty with problem solving.
Inablility to express language (Broca's Aphasia).
I'm still bothered that the doctor told us this, but he must know something from a scan. Many people live with the problems llisted here. But I don't want to even consider this is final. There is a lot of time, and maybe the oxygen treatment will work miracles for him. After all, he is the miricle miner.

Nore, is your son Ok now??? Allegheny Hospital is a well-respected facility. My home town was just South of there.Nore said:----------------
Allegheny hospital is an excellent facility. My son was there at one point. The back portion of the brain controls all movement on command, also equalibrium, optic area is close by. My son had a brain stem infarction which hit the cerabrim (sp).He was unable to move at all, used his eyes for communication. The upper part of the brain is I believe the cerebellium. Joes was a blood clot.
How long ago did that happen scandi; that's a tough one.scandi said:How is your son now, Nore?
My husband fell against a night table hit the lower base of his skull. It caused a blood vessel in the brain to burst which caused his death. I hadn't seen him for years, and got a call from the coroner, telling me what had happened. That was a hard one to deal with.

Since ICG has only owned the mine for a very short time, they might be able to escape legal responsibility, but I hope not. In buying it "as Is" they assumed responsibility for everything. Now for a good team of devoted lawyers to represent the families--they will be battling big money as that owner has a lot of it to defend himself with.Liz said:He was a real piece of work, wasn't he!?
