Were they rescued or what? If they were, those that got to them are very brave souls also.

No one has mentioned how they got out.......anyone hear?

Hi Tom'sGirl,

They said the'll probably drive them up in those little cars that take them in and out of the mine. The ambulances are waiting up beyond the entrance to the mine, and a few over by the church.

The only other thing I've heard was at 9:30 that they would be up at the church in an hour. So maybe they'll check them out upon exiting the mine by paramedics, and then the ambulances will escort them up to the church to hug their families, which is evidently what the miners said they want to do!

At first they said it was Helms that died, but I think I just saw his son in the ball cap on CNN and he made it. I don't know.

Oh Happy Day! Scandi

As far as I have heard they are not out yet.I think the exit area is being checked out. It sounds they may be going to the hospital definately. They mention things you and I would not even think of like different gases, plastics odors etc.Sounds like some of the rescuers may be sent to hospital also.Oh carbon monoxide fumes also. They will do blood work on all. This is good to know. The ambulances are there already, just waiting.

I'm trying to find more info on the victim, Terry Helms

his son had been interviewed prior to his body being found :(

"Obviously, it was devastating," said Nick Helms, who's 50-year-old father, Terry, is among the trapped miners. But he said his father once told him that mine air tests could be deceiving because safer levels could be just a short distance away."

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,180406,00.html

Terry is being listed as 50 here.
In earlier stories, he'd been listed as 48. I believe 50 is accurate.

To those who have been so great at keeping me updated, I really appreciate it.

I'm going in now and watch T.V. and see if I can find something on the early news stations.

What brave men, the miners and their rescuers!

I don't think that was Terry Helms son who they talked to who had the ball cap on. I think that was a relative of Jack Weaver.?

The alvation Army has done a tremendous job of trying to help the families. They re still saying the miners will meet their families at the Church, then on to the hospital. They mentioned hypothermia, dehydration etc. so best they be checked out.I believe they dug three holes down and men will come out of the third.Families are all outside waiting.

I am about 200 miles North of this site.It is so cold and damp! Drizzle all evening. It must also be hard for all the people waiting on ground.Ambulances are still coming in.

Nore, does that mean they will each be brought up in a bucket like they were in Pennsylvania?

Thanks, and thanks you RKnowley! ;}

First ambulance just exited the area, headed for St. Joe's Hospital.

Eta: According to Anderson Cooper's source, that miner that was taken to St. Joe's was unconscious.
:( Praying for him to pull thru okay!

I'm hoping it's a good sign that no other ambulances have come through as yet! Or could it signify that no other miners have been brought out of the mine, yet?

I had heard on FOX that several miners were in need of medical attention; but there is a triage unit set up at the mine site.

FOX update: The head ER doctor, Dr. Blake and nurses are on the scene at the mine portal at this time; and the miners will be triaged at the site and then sent to the hospital.

The gal (Lisa with St. Joseph's Hospital) on the phone with Bill Hemmer did mention that several of the miners did want to see their families first. She said IF they are determined to be in good enough condition, that might be possible for them to visit with family for a few minutes before being taken to the hospital.

I'm so happy for the 12 that made it out alive. Their families must be overwhelmed with happiness..All the while there is one family completely devasted while the celebrating goes on how terrible it must be for them. I hope they brought them somewhere else I wouldnt want to be around all the joy right now if it was my hubby that didnt make it out..but thats just me. This is a bitter sweet ending.

Wonderful news! With the carbon monoxide readings, it sounded hopeless.

The one killed, seems like he must have been too close to the source, perhaps trying to prevent the explosion, perhaps giving the warning to the other miners. It's a sad day for his family, whatever the circumstances.

I think the family of the deceased miner (Terry Helms, allegedly) was in with the jubilant families of the 12 survivors. That must have been tough for them. I did hear one relative of the deceased man say that she was happy for the survivors and their families.

Update on the survivor taken by ambulance to St Joe's is that he was described as a young guy and is in critical condition. He has been stabilized, put on a ventilator and is now being transported to a Class I hospital, (Ruby?).

OH MY GOD! They are now saying only one person that made it out alive, (Randall Ware?) and that is the one that was taken to the hospital! (Lynn Roby is reporting this live to Anderson Cooper)
