Minimum Wage Boost Races Through House

Well, lots to talk about here...:D

First, let me clarify the statements I made previously. If you CHOOSE to take a minimum wage job...because, for instance, you need a job that lets you work while the kids are in school--that is one thing. If you take a MW job to allow you to take care of a sick relative--that is another. If you have absolutely no other options in your life and are using a minimum wage job as a means to raise a family of four--as an adult--something is desperately wrong.

When I make these statements, I don't do so as a "hey, I am better than all of you", I make them as wearing my career counselor hat.

As for goals and objectives and style of each person, sure I understand that. I could make a LOT more money in my company if I were willing to travel...but I don't want to miss my family. It's all about choices. However, given that, if something in my life changed and I needed some significant income boost, a travelin I would go.

You mentioned in another post...about how I viewed your family...but then you deleted it. But since I saw it, I get to reply. ;)

I would guess that you are a mother of three children....two boys and a girl. I would imagine that you are newly divorced (within three years). You probably are an outstanding mother and somewhat of a firecracker! :D I envision you as a redhead with green eyes. Am I close?
Geez Louise Calus, you just killed the whole discussion.... LOL.

I had a little bit of a connection problem earlier and posted the same reply 4 or 5 times.... so i deleted them all and added a few lines to the original before reposting. The part about what you think my life is like is still in there, though. I can't see it right now while I'm replying, but I think it's the first post on page 3?

Anyway. You got the firecracker part right I guess (lol), and the eye color halfway - it's grey with green (weird really). Oh and of course the outstanding mother part. :D
I'm kind of debating on what other info to post... I'm paranoid about revealing too much online. Well, I have a husband and a daughter, and I am originally from Europe. After travelling the US and meeting hubby, that's where we lived for a while (Europe). I had my own business there, together with my father. Was a stay-at home-mom for a while when daughter was born, then about 5 years ago bought my half back from my dad and went to work again, while hubby moved back to the US to buy us a house and set up a business, since we decided to move here. Two years ago me and daughter moved over as well, and I went back to being a SAHM to make sure the transition for daughter would be flawless. Went to work a couple of months ago because I started feeling trapped, but I definitely only wanted to work during school hours. And here I am, making minimum wage on my first job in the US. :D

So are you really a dad who works too many hours and forgot his kid's names? ;)

Okay and now how you killed the discussion.... I just wanted you to see that there are so many reasons someone could be working for minimum wage. You were all gung-ho about those people being losers, and never once mentioned the choices part. It was like you were stuck in your own little world, and I'm glad to see you're not. :)

I do agree with you about a lot of the things you said, but heck I had to be devil's advocate, didn't I... lol. I hate to see people get upset though, and well that still annoys me a little bit.... but... we didn't need this turning into one big smoochfest anyway... lmao!

Well good, the firecracker part is the most important anyway! :D ;)

Clearly, you are not among those I cleverly encourage. In fact, my wife quit work in May and I can't wait to get her back to work...minimum wage or NOT.

I think that somewhere towards the front of my argument, I clarified that situational (child care issues, etc.) were not what I was talking about. Being there because you choose to or circumstances dictate it is much different than someone living on MW as their only source of income.

"I do agree with you about a lot of the things you said" Well...mostly right is better than not at all! :D

"I had to be devil's advocate" Hey I can use all the help I can get.

If you look hard enough, I bet you can find someone to do it on a class action basis! :D

Well, see now there.....someone who holds views similar to those espoused in the thread I am responding to (see no YOU in there! :D).....go.

I can't speak on behalf of the entire contingent of conservatives but it was never about the lewinski that Monica gave Bill. It was about the fact that he lied under oath and perjured himself. Subtle distinction, you might counter. Except for the fact that our legal system is based on true testimony under oath. It is about telling the truth when you don't want to. Otherwise, that cheating business partner of yours or that drunk that killed your family member can say anything under oath.

Hey, clearly Bill and Hill were together at least once in their lives because you have Chelsea. If I were Bill, I would be out there trying my best to get that rubbed off me too! :D

Cal

Chalk me up as one conservative who thinks that the President is entitled to as many BJs as he wants. Anything to keep him peppy and ready to go. Besides, with Hillary at home, who could blame him. You know she don't go down there.

Sorry, but that argument doesn't hold water.

If one president can lie with impunity about the build-up to a war that kills thousands and costs billions, then another president's lie wasn't the issue.

It was the sex. That's usually what makes Americans crazy.

Yeah, but until we get a better looking president, don't count on me to do the deed.

See, we were getting along so well !!!!!! :D

I don't have time to refute you but the President didn't lie.

For me, it wasn't about sex. It was about telling the truth under oath.
