Minnesota - Coronavirus COVID-19

The state of Minnesota reported 24 new deaths Saturday related to COVID-19, the highly contagious disease caused by the novel coronavirus, bringing the total number of known fatalities to 558.

Of the new deaths, 16 involved residents of long-term care facilities. Two patients were in their 50s and two were over the age of 100, with the rest falling in between.

On Saturday the state Department of Health reported 702 new laboratory-confirmed infections, down from 723 new cases the day before. To date, 10,790 Minnesota residents have been confirmed to have the virus, though 6,322 are no longer in isolation.

Those results are based on nearly 5,000 new tests, bringing the total number of tests to date to 106,263.

The number of COVID patients in intensive care was reported at 180, down from 198 the day before. There were 296 additional patients reported hospitalized, up from 275 the day before.

Gov. Tim Walz and state public health officials said this week that the state has the capacity to test up to 10,000 people a day for the virus, mostly through private health networks, but only roughly 4,000 people per day were coming forward last week.

Saturday coronavirus update: 24 new MN deaths, 5,000 new tests

Twenty additional deaths were also reported, bringing the state’s death toll to 578. According to the MDH, 464 of Minnesotans who passed away due to COVID-19 resided in long-term care or assisted living facility.

Currently, 434 people are in Minnesota hospitals battling COVID-19, with 199 in intensive care beds.

More than half of people who have contracted COVID-19 in Minnesota — 6,882 patients — have recovered and no longer need to be in isolation, health officials say.

Minnesota’s current stay-at-home order is set to expire on May 18.
Coronavirus In Minnesota: COVID-19 Cases Rise By 481; 20 Additional Deaths Reported

Tonight I watched a Zoom with State Rep. Bierman, State Rep. Huot, and State Sen. Clausen. All three are concerned with reopening too soon. One comment that Clausen made really stayed with me. In Minnesota, most cases, not deaths, are between the ages of 20 and 59, which is the work force.

Had reason to be in central MN yesterday. Somewhere between Renville and Morgan, I stopped at a convenience store, put on a mask before entering. I was the only person (patrons and staff) wearing a mask and keeping social distancing. Guess the facts haven't hit this area yet.

Well, I don't understand Minnesota.

The case count continues to rise. The death toll continues to rise.
12, 917 cases today (+423)
638 deaths today (+24)

Governor Walz has decided to sort of reopen.
No more than 10 people together.
Businesses can reopen, but not bars and restaurants.
Schools will not reopen this year.

How does this all fit? Minnesotan's health is no better, yet the state is reopening, or is it?

I am finished posting tolls. AND, I am discouraged that MN is opening with cases rising daily and the death toll standing around 25 per day. I just feel no one is in control. While bicycling yesterday, it hit me that while I was attempting to exercise and enjoy the day, people were hospitalized and dying, and so it continues. Suggest the site below to get daily Minnesota tolls.

I am going to miss your daily tolls, but understand your frustration 100%

Thanks for all you have done, Trino, it's very much appreciated. Prayers for us all.

We wear a mask when we go out. I'm 65 and he is 74, husband takes 5 different immunosuppressive type meds for RA. Therefore we already were a bit hermit-like and the lockdown didn't change things too much for us, save for haircuts and eating out. For years we have kept a bottle of hand sanitizer in the car and use it faithfully; the Humira he is on plays havoc with your system, even a common cold could kill him. He's also been on Hydroxychloroquine for years (no side effects whatsoever), and I do hope that's protective. I'm praying the use of masks helps get the numbers down and keep them down, and I'm just hoping for a safe and effective vaccine soon. Mandates are usually not a good thing IMO, so we'll see.
