Minnesota - Coronavirus COVID-19

Help me to understand.
Minnesota's 7 day average cases was 60 on April 1. Everyone was concerned. Minnesota had a Stay at Home.

On May 25 Minnesota had 745 NEW cases, and the state is reopening. Business as usual - just about. People are out.

What am I missing besides the fact that people don't care.

I can't understand it either. I'm going to do what I need to do for myself and my family. Glad I don't work as an RN anymore, though. It's those who work in healthcare, who are going to suffer through the added cases that are bound to occur.

OMG. The spread of COVID-19.

Protestors (several thousand). Firefighters. Police Minneapolis. Police St. Paul. National Guard.

No way are Minneapolis and St. Paul going to reopen - assuming there are businesses left.

Yep, exactly what I said to my husband.

Covid cases will increase. Many business owners lost their business. They were counting on not having to pay back the government loan, I would think, because they would have brought their employees back to work. Now what happens? This is heartbreaking, just heartbreaking. Violent protests all over the country. I fear for the lives of law enforcement everywhere.

Protests are absolutely going to spread the virus, and not just in Minneapolis/St. Paul but in many cities. Protestors, police, firefighters, National Guard are all going home after contact with each other. Unemployment in M/SP will hit a high mark. Economic and COVID-19 recovery are going to take a long time. No solution. Damage done. Guessing states are going to need to again shutter.

MN Governor Walz confirmed he expects spread of the virus. Need to watch in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, protestors mostly subdued in the TwinCities. Appears the virus has decided to follow them to other cities.

Expect a resurgence even before fall or winter.

“The death of a 9-month-old baby from Clay County is one of the youngest reported in the U.S. in the pandemic.

The child had no underlying health conditions and was not hospitalized. State Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm described it as an "isolated incident related to this infant's very specific situation."“

[...]

“"An infant death is devastating," said Kris Ehresmann, state infectious disease director, "and thankfully there have not been a lot of infant deaths in the country, but we want to make sure that we're understanding as much as we can about ... the changes that occurred with this infant in terms of the progression of their illness."“

[...]

“Even so, health officials have warned that COVID-19 can pose risks to younger people, including breathing and other health complications. The state has reported pediatric cases of COVID-19 that required hospital admissions and intensive care, as well as at least 13 cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children. The condition affects multiple organs and appears tied to earlier SARS-CoV-2 infections.“

[...]

“Cases among children and young adults have fueled the increase in the outbreak in the state over the past month. Total cases in Minnesota have increased 87% since June 1, but 144% among people 29 and younger in that same time period.“

Burnsville, MN has IMO the craziest plan, and IMO it's going to collapse. It's totally complicated. Fall 2020 | ISD 191

Fine if you have 1 child in school, but unrealistic if you have more, need to drive them, have a job, etc. Need a printout to know what to do on a daily basis.

Doggone it, when will this be in our rearview mirror?

"Steep climbs in new cases have led health authorities to sound the alarm in recent weeks that the state is on the wrong path as fall turns to winter and that Minnesotans must do more to stem the spread, including wearing masks and socially distancing even at casual meetups with friends and family."
State Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm and Kris Ehresmann, the state’s infectious disease director, have been sharpening their messages of personal responsibility for weeks. In their remarks, they’ve expressed rising frustration that too many Minnesotans are acting like the pandemic is over when it is not.
