Miss California - Same Sex Marriage-Perez Hilton

  • #161
Wow, did all the other girls get the same opportunity so the competition would be an even playing field?

Yeah - it's nuts! And more than a little funny to me that this woman wasn't satisfied with how God made her so she underwent major surgery to correct His mistake. Hey, maybe there's a surgery that can correct homosexuality - that would solve all our prolems...

The whole pageant thing skeeves me out.

That's not funny, SCM! Well, okay, yes, it is. :blowkiss:

But it wasn't that long ago that homosexuals were subjected to "corrective" medical treatments including surgery (castration), poisoning (chemical injections) and electric shock.

Some would argue that many of today's supposed cures in the "ex-gay" movement are just as cruel and invasive, psychologically.

(BTW, could not agree more with you about beauty pageants.)

"Perez Hilton looks like an intellectual titan and some sort of civil rights leader, and the new poster girl against same sex marriage is not just a boob but a fake boob."
- Keith Olbermann said on his MSNBC show.

Gotta love Olbermann!

I'm no particular fan of Perez Hilton, but missing from all the above posts about Miss Cali's "courage" is the fact that it was Hilton who took the numerically unpopular position in this dispute.

Miss California USA Carrie Prejean is in danger of losing her title.
Pageant officials Tuesday said they are looking into whether Prejean violated her contract by working with a national group opposed to gay marriage and by posing semi-nude when she was a 17-year-old model.
Pageant spokesman Roger Neal said Tuesday it appears Prejean has violated the 12-page contract all prospective contestants were required to sign before competing in the November state contest. The contract prohibits Miss California from making personal appearances, giving interviews or making commercials without permission from pageant officials. In the last 10 days, Prejean has made televised appearances at her San Diego church and on behalf of the National Organization for Marriage, a group opposed to same-sex marriage.
The contact also contains a clause asking participants to say whether they have conducted themselves "in accordance with the highest ethical and moral standards." As an example, it asks if they have ever been photographed nude or partially nude.
A photo of Prejean wearing only pink panties with her back turned to the camera appeared Monday on a gossip blog.

Semi-nude posing at 17? What courage that must have taken. Her traditional family values are really shining forth!

What is "semi-nude"??? Sounds like bathing suit season to me.

I think it is interesting that this girl raised an unpopular opinion and is being trashed so bad. She lost. Oh well. But to say that Perez Hilton calling her an "ignorant *****" was more classy than her is ridiculous. That is not quality journalism, and neither is a single thing on his website.

Then for people to go looking for her medical records and try to dig up anything they can to smear her seems a little cheap. Did they do this for any of the other contestants or only the ones who had differing opinions to the almighty Perez?

She may be completely wrong, but no one deserves to be ripped apart like this over an opinion. She doesn't even have an ounce of power to do anything about that opinion!

This is why people hate the media.

Angel, she has ridden the reaction to her opinion into a higher state of recognition and aligned herself publicly with groups that agree. She is not shying away from the public - she is a model and a spokeswoman - she WANTS people to be looking at her and listening to her. If she did not, she may have chosen a different career path.

Yes - some people are ripping her apart, but others are signing her highest praises from the rafters. The double-edged sword of opinion!

If you are in the public eye, you are in the public eye and this comes with the territory. Perez Hilton has done nothing but help her career.

As you know, I am no big fan of the media, but we the public have complicity in the tripe they hand us.

Apparently, there are more photos, too. Where were her parents? What "traditional" mother and father would allow their 17 yr old daughter to pose like even the one photo we've seen? It seems this traditionalist woman also "forgot" to tell pageant officials about the photo.

Please. Have you read the sexting thread? Preteens are sending nude cell phone images of themselves to their boyfriends.

I think the unusual thing would be if one of those 50 women (51?) DIDN'T have a semi-nude picture floating around out there.

The only pic I saw she was in panties and topless, but her arms were covering all but one side of her breast. It wasn't all that scandelous if you ask me. Yeah, if she's spouting that she has Christian, traditional values then it was a little risque.

Because of that one answer, this woman has gotten more press than if she had won. I don't even know who did win. North Carolina?

I agree with you here!

I agree - it has been brilliant for her! Yes, Ms. NC won and I don't even know who she is or what she looks like!

ETA - I only think 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 jobs and risque pre-adult pictures are are worth examining in light of her vocal traditional Christian values.

Really? I believe SOME are texting nude photos. However, I don't believe a majority of pre-teens or teens are doing this.

ALL contestants had to sign a statement about nude or semi-nude photos. Their contract contains a clause asking participants to say whether they have conducted themselves in accordance with the highest ethical and moral standards. It asks if they have ever been photographed nude or partially nude. If the other contestants signed the contract, it either means they lied, or they did NOT pose in such a manner.

My point was that they all sign this. I would bet you a dozen donuts that 45 out of 50 have a picture that could be bad for their image. We have seen it over and over and over again. Not one of them has hesitated to sign those forms.

And my question was whether or not the media went hunting through the medical information and photos of all of the contestants or just the ones they didn't like. I think it's a pretty reasonable question.

Even Miley Cyrus with her squeaky clean image has had pictures that caused her trouble, so these girls probably have a lot more "artistic" work in their portfolios.

PS I never said all or a majority of teens were sexting. I said that a lot are - as in taking OR receiving the pics, and they don't think it's as big a deal as we do.

Just the ones they think people want to read about!!

The thing about those contracts that all the women sign is that they give the pageant folks ALL the control - if they want to get rid of you they can - there's always a loophole. The pageants control everything. Like you, I think most of the women come from modeling backgrounds and probably have some racy pics out there somewhere - but again, it's up to the pageant to determine what's racy.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't some beauty queen last year get in a heapa trouble for being drunk and kissing women in front of cameras and basically not putting forward a "wholesome" image? And I think they gave that girl a second chance, IIRC - like sent her to treatment and let her clean up her act. Miss Cally's not getting that love from the pageant people who control her!

Regardless, she's getting more exposure than she ever would have gotten had she won - she'll be just fine.

I don't see that that photo shows any more skin than the bikinis they march around in during the pageant.

However, if she signed a statement, and this IS considered semi-nude or whatever, then she violated the agreement. I don't know what environment the photo was taken in.

It seems her personal opinions have now become working for an actual political cause for a conservative group. (against marital rights for gays). I don't know if she is breaking any kind of pageant rule by doing this. Is she still "serving" as Miss California?

  • #178
Indeed she was showing more breast in her bathing suit than in the pic. But hey, they are after her so they will follow the rule to the letter. I predict they use it to de-tiara her, or de-sash her or whatever they do.

  • #179
The thing is, she set herself up-she lied on her contract regarding nude or semi nude pictures. It is pretty straight forward-Then she opted to keep herself in the limelight by making appearances based on her response to a single question in the pageant. She made herself out to be a victim of her beliefs-really she was exploiting the controversy for her 15 minutes...given the fact that most people don't remember a runner up. She should be sending flowers to Perez Hilton, and like scm I believe she will be just fine.

HOWEVER, the religious right will have to take a step back likely from their new shining star....head shakin.

  • #180
And regarding the Miss whomever who was drinking and partying-I expect the pageant is similar to an employer in that they cannot fire you for having a "disability"-if she stated that she was an addict and needed help, I believe they are obligated to provide it...jmo.
