I am so saddened by this news, although it was not surprising. Poor thing.

I am confused by who gave LE details of the whereabouts of her grave. Camp Lejeune is full of woods and backroads, she could be anywhere ! Who is it that knows where she is buried ? This person sat on this information since the 14th !

Her 🤬🤬🤬 stepmother must feel really proud of herself just about now, huh ?

Poor Maria, I imagine she bought herself a bus ticket because she feared for her life. I can't even begin to imagine what her final hours must have been like.....

Mayberry is the FBI compared to this joke of a news conference.

They keep referring to a "Loren" in the presser as the POI -- a male, so I used the male spelling of the name. I haven't caught the last name yet. Anyone?

Steve/Mr. A
They said Corporal Loren. So, I'm assuming Loren is his last name.

This news report IS very confusing.....

I don't think that they did. The sheriff even thought that she would be found alive until today, if I am understanding what he is saying.

That's because LE listened to the very person, (and his co-horts) that she had accused of raping her.

Supposedly Marie had developed friendly contact with the accused rapist after she filed charges.

I guess murder is now referred to as "friendly contact".

Gee, the accused rapist starts kissing up to his accuser...ya' think he may have been wooing her to get her to drop charges????

"The info we have would be what this witness was told."

Cesar Armondo Loren, 21

Don't know if I got the name spelled correctly...Ceasar Armondo Loren, 21 yrs old.

Initiation of relationship after the rape charge was from the missing lady to Loren.

IMO, from the beginning, NCIS and local LE has bought the BS that was being said about her. And said by the very people who had it in for her to begin with! For instance, they keep saying their info they had was what they were told....by whom? Sheesh.

The middle name is usually spelled "Armando," but I think "Cesar" is correct -- if his parents were indeed latino. But I hardly ever try to predict correct name spellings anymore, between the press messing them up and mothers making up their own, er, "unique" spellings.

Initiation of relationship after the rape charge was from the missing lady to Loren.

And who told LE that? Probably not anyone that's on Marie's side, IMO.

Yeah, according to who? We don't know where he got that info, and he doesn't sound very discerning to me.

Don't forget that they also must have listened to Mom, if she really said those things about her daughter.

I can't keep up with this guy!
He's not considered a flight-risk according to the NCIS guy

I was just about to type the exact things!

What gets me to a boiling point is all the "I can't discuss that at this time".

I understand that completely...possible trial, evidence, etc.

BUT
Why not just run a large screen-size scroll of all the info they CAN release?
Why put people up there in a "Breaking News Press Conference" to say "I dont know", "I can't disclose that".

One long list of what can be disclosed, run a couple times so that we that read slow don't miss anything, and then we could come here and the Fantastic Sleuthers here could dissect the information and give it to us in ways we can understand.

Sorry, just venting about this and all other press conferences that end up with so many "I can't give that information", that we who are interested/concerned about the victims of a case end up so much more confused.
Why bother with a Press Conference....just make a full screen list of what they CAN tell us and be done with it.

End of vent and my apologies.

ITA - since no one has heard from her since December 14, everything LE knows has come from other sources - probaby the suspect and his friends. I can't believe they didn't at least pick him up on other charges. The marines could have held him, something, anything, to not let him skip town.

Ami, I thought I was going nuts. Thank you.

Perhaps the sexual assault was a date-rape type of situation ? Maybe that is why they were supposedly on friendly terms ?

I agree that he was probably trying to get her to drop the charges, and she wouldn't , and after the Military said they would do dna tests on the baby after the birth, he decided to kill her and leave the state , thinking that no body, no evidence of a crime. He thought he was toom smart to be caught, and apparently that is just what happened.

I can't believe how LE just let him slip through their fingers !
