This happened in my region a while back; someone wanted to listen to a CD in the van without running down the battery, and 7 people paid for it with their lives.

I've just been upstairs to test my monitor is working. Last week within the space of 15 minutes, two of our fire alarms were beeping with low batteries, I did remove the batteries until I replaced the next morning as they are also mains wired but I didn't even think to check the CO monitor, I honestly forget it's even there.
