Minnesota’s chief federal judge is ordering the head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to appear personally in a Minneapolis courtroom on Friday, with the judge saying that ICE has failed to comply with dozens of court orders....

Chief Judge Patrick Schiltz in a Monday court filing, ordering acting ICE director Todd Lyons to appear in court, wrote that “the Court’s patience is at an end.”

US Holocaust Museum responds after Tim Walz invokes Anne Frank's name, calls exploiting Holocaust 'deeply offensive'

The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum posted on social media in response to Walz's comments, "Anne Frank was targeted and murdered solely because she was Jewish. Leaders making false equivalencies to her experience for political purposes is never acceptable. Despite tensions in Minneapolis, exploiting the Holocaust is deeply offensive, especially as antisemitism surges."

That comment was in regards to discussion about documenting
to which clearly that book was a very important historical document. I am not exploiting the holocaust. I myself have been keeping documentation of current events to be able to share with family later on. We are in historical times right now.

The reactions to Noem's leadership decisions continue. (My personal opinion is surprise she is still in office after agents under her command killed two U.S. citizens on the streets of an American city and she blamed the victims.)

Democratic Senator John Fetterman called on President Donald Trump to fire Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem as the agency continues to face backlash after the killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.

Today, District Judge Patrick Schiltz has ordered the acting ICE director to appear in court on Friday.

Schiltz says Todd Lyons must explain why his agency has failed to hold a bond hearing for an immigration detainee in the court-ordered timeframe.

Schiltz says "the court's patience is at an end" as he takes the self-described "extraordinary" measure of summoning the acting head of ICE to court.

He demanded that acting ICE director Todd Lyons appear in court after "lesser measures have been tried and failed", according to a court filing on Monday.

"The Court’s patience is at an end. Accordingly, the Court will order Todd Lyons, the Acting Director of ICE, to appear personally before the Court and show cause why he should not be held in contempt of Court," Schiltz wrote in his order.

<modsnip: Information stated as fact with no approved source to support>

It's my opinion that had he not been carrying that day, and had he not inserted himself when the woman was pushed down, he'd likely be alive today.

It's my opinion that an unfortunate chain of events transpired. I do not adhere to the notion that a Federal agent in this case committed 1st degree murder.

It's my opinion that no charges will be brought against the Federal agents in this case, however, if so, they will be lesser in nature, considering a litany of factors that came in to play that day.

You're right that likely had he not helped a woman up, he wouldn't have been shot. But that should enrage us. Absolutely enrage us. Forget about being Pretti for a second. Imagine being the woman. Imagine being physically assaulted and shoved to the ground, unable to get up on your own, and everyone around you is fearful to help for fear they will be killed. His biggest crime is lending a fellow citizen a hand and he received the death penalty for it. That doesn't make the situation better. It makes it HORRIFIC.

As for the gun, whether the agents saw it or not is up for debate. But regardless, that should also anger us. If exercising your Constitutional right to carry a gun (without ever brandishing it or pointing it at someone) is reason to be killed, that's alarming and IMO, indefensible.

This is not true. There are restrictions on the carrying of a firearm in all states, and they vary.

What is not true? You posted a bunch of links and I clicked on them and skimmed them, but don't have time to read through all of them. So I'm curious, what about this statement is false: "He had every right to carry a gun wherever he went, per the Constitution."

Are you saying he didn't have a right to carry a gun? He was on a public street. He was at a protest that was actually peaceful until ICE began their shenanigans. He never brandished the gun nor did he threaten to, as far as we know from media reports.

So what part of my statement is false?

  • Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino is expected to leave Minneapolis today as President Donald Trump plans to reshuffle his immigration operation amid widespread backlash to two high-profile killings of civilians.
  • Bovino is losing his "commander" title, federal officials told NBC News, and will return to the border in El Centro, California, to resume his previous job as sector chief there....
  • Trump administration officials and allies told NBC News the president is "concerned" about the sustainability of the Minneapolis operations following Pretti's shooting.

Micayla Pretti, the younger sister of Alex Pretti, has paid tribute to her brother and attacked the "disgusting lies" she said are being told to him.

"All Alex ever wanted was to help someone — anyone," she said in a statement reported by The Associated Press. "Even in his very last moments on this earth, he was simply trying to do just that."

Despite the ongoing attempts to smear Alex Pretti, to make up lies about his intentions, and to justify agents shooting him, most people see we lost a good man. imo

Not if the Italians can help it, to judge from the reaction.

I can't help but wonder if this is a jobs program for agents to give them bodyguard work and/or creating a sensational international story to take the attention away from their dangerous incompetence in Minnesota.

Hoping it leads to state and local law enforcement doing their job of providing support to federal law enforcement during their operations, with state and local law enforcement no longer standing down, and creating a safe perimeter around the operation zone of federal law enforcement officers who are conducting their operations. Doing their job.
Though this would be ideal, I don't think its going to happen as local governments can always give the vague "lack of resources" excuse.

There are 3000 federal agents in Minnesota. They can create their own dang perimeter without taking local officers away from serving the community.

Live updates: Bovino set to leave Minneapolis as Trump reshuffles immigration operation

An unnamed source told Reuters that Bovino had been stripped of his specially created title of “commander at large” of the Border Patrol, but the Department of Homeland Security has pushed back on the demotion reports. “Chief Gregory Bovino has NOT been relieved of his duties,” the DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said, pointing to earlier comments from the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, praising Bovino as a “key part of the president’s team and a great American”.

A license to carry a firearm, or other terms used, a concealed carry permit, etc. does not give a person a "right to carry a gun wherever". There are restrictions, schools, courthouses, government buildings, bars, and numerous other locations, varying from state to state. So it's simply not true that a person in the U.S. as per the Constitution has a right to carry a gun wherever.

In this situation, Pretti had a right to carry the gun where and when he was. He carried it safely and never touched it during the encounter.

Federal investigators are reviewing body camera footage related to the killing of Alex Pretti, the 37-year-old nurse who was fatally shot in Minneapolis on Saturday by federal agents involved in President Trump’s immigration crackdown.

“There is body camera footage from multiple angles, which investigators are currently reviewing,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement to The New York Times on Monday...

The evidence is being stored in a secure evidence room at the F.B.I.’s Minneapolis field office, according to the memo. The document also stated that “CBP has preserved all relevant body-worn camera footage from the incident and will do so for 75 years,”

Whatever does it have to Alex Pretti, who had full legal right to carry on the street?

"Does the president agree with them?" ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Mary Bruce asked Leavitt during Monday's press briefing.

"Look, as I've said, I have not heard the president characterize Mr. Pretti in that way," Leavitt said. "However, I have heard the president say he wants to let the facts in the investigation lead itself."
White House distances Trump from provocative claims by Noem, others on Pretti shooting

When asked for comment, the White House referred POLITICO to Trump’s Truth Social post and to a post on X from the Department of Homeland Security, which claimed, “The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted.”

I do not deny this fact, never did. In my opinion the man made a poor choice to do so that day, and under the totality of circumstances. It is also my opinion that had he not had that firearm on his person, and inserted himself in to the incident, he would likely be alive today.

In my opinion, his firearm in this case played a critical role in how the event unfolded, and will likely be a point of consideration in the investigation.
