Found Safe MN - Ava Whitfield, 10, driving a car, Fridley, 30 Mar 2021

MISSING PERSON ALERT: The Fridley Police Dept. is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing child. Ava Whitfield, 10, is 5’4”, 110 lbs., with black hair, brown eyes and black glasses.

She was last seen wearing a red tye-dyed hoodie, black leggings and black Nike tennis shoes. Whitfield took a vehicle from her residence Tuesday morning and may be driving around the Twin Cities metro area.

The vehicle is a black, 2018 Chevrolet Equinox with Minnesota license plate BAU358. Her last known location was in the Eden Prairie area. Call 911 with any information on Whitfield’s whereabouts.

How much gas did the vehicle have? It's now 5:05 PM in Fridley and Ava has been missing since this morning. Hopefully she will be located safe very soon.

hopefully she parked it ( or whatever a 10yr old would do) and is on foot somewhere. IMO

Other then looking at malls, friends, parks. There seems to be the Mississippi River near Fridley MN also there's a park, and a lake near the H.S. IMO. I hate to even go there.

Her last known location was in the Eden Prairie area. She left a Walmart in the city around 7 a.m. Tuesday. She was also seen on surveillance camera at BILL’s Superette in Ramsey just after 5 a.m.

How did she learn to drive? She can park adequately? Holy moly! I have a 10 year old and don’t think they’d make it far driving a car without getting scared and jumping out.

Some kids can't and others can. I wouldn't have been able to but my brother certainly would (and might have done something like this if he thought he could get away with it )

Is she a farm kid - ie used to driving? There’s a photo in the above article - I can’t tell if she parked near gas pumps? Looks like she’s exiting the store with a purchase - did she take credit card too? Wow! I’m really hoping this is a kid used to operating a car for her own safety (lights, wipers, etc). 10!

I agree, she does look like a bigger 10yr old and slick, covering her head etc. What time did she actually take the car? Spotted at 5am then at 7am. She seems to be on a mission of some sort. I've tried mapping and from what I can tell, she's all over the place.

Agreed - travel both north and south of Fridley. I think that may have sparked my thought of someone maybe "giving directions." Pure speculation on my part for now.

We don't even know if she has a phone with her afaik. It's possible she knows people in both Ramsey and Eden Prairie. JMOO

That’s all true. After I posted, I remembered that it’s not just farm kids. My suburban siblings could all drive rather well by 12 or so because of their go-kart hobbies. Those skills transferred to real cars on summer trips to very rural relatives. I guess how she learned may not be relevant to where she’s going. MOO.

From the Fridley PD press release it sounds like she left before her mama woke up and took credit cards from her purse.
