The Independent

Three others were sentenced alongside Shroyer: Bernardino Elias, reportedly her lover, Gelson Ramos, and Isalino Kayoo. The court ruled she had paid $9,500 to the latter two to carry out the murder. Elias was sentenced to 21 years for the crime of aggravated homicide. In contrast, Ramos and Kayoo were respectively sentenced to 21 and 22 years in prison for the crimes of aggravated homicide and money laundering.

Just found this, looks like she’s got 24 years.

I have to say I feel a bit uncomfortable with how quickly the church seems to have washed its hands of her. Even the statement reads like more woe is us that this horrible woman tainted our flock.

Now there very well may have been lots of support offered and the embassy heavily involved, but the lack of media coverage just sort of makes it feel like some clown court conviction where there hasn’t been transparency or oversight. And now she’s in prison for 24 years but we don’t really know anything about the evidence or the motive. It kinda feels like she has just been forgotten about. MOO

I hope that isn’t the case. She is certainly annoying, but she deserves justice and for light to be shined on whatever happened. I’m not convinced we have that yet.

I understand your concerns. According to these news snippets, I would say there has been oversight of the case and a logical motive. I don’t know why there hasn’t been media research that would provide transparency other than the fact that Angola is a foreign country and either the language barrier or custom doesn’t allow for as much transparency as we are used to. Perhaps more will come out later, like a trial transcript. It may have been very clear from the beginning that Jackie was guilty, putting the church in a quandry about how much support to give her vs Beau’s children and family. SIM USA took the lead supporting her in Angola, so she wasn’t forgotten by their employer.

SIM USA said in November that Shroyer was represented by an Angolan attorney and two American attorneys. Both the FBI and State Department were aware of the case, SIM USA said.

Speaking on Wednesday, the judge ruled that Shroyer had actively participated in the reconnaissance of the crime scene, and that a knife was used to carry out the murder during an ambush, according to local news.

Beau was in Angola with Jackie and their five children, doing missionary work in the country through SIM USA. That mission trip, however, was set to come to an end, something authorities said Jackie did not want, wishing to stay in the country.

Manuel Halaiwa, the superintendent of criminal investigation with the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), told the Angola Press Agency that the motives for the crime were “strong suspicions of a romantic relationship between the person who ordered the crime and her accomplice, the guard at the couple’s residence.”

“Though this news is shocking and extremely difficult to comprehend, it’s important for you to know that this verdict follows a very thorough investigation and trial process that was monitored closely, conducted fairly, and carried out with integrity,” [Vineyard Lead Pastor Troy M.] Easton said.

@starlightstarbright , Lilibet, great points from both of you.

In terms of media coverage I also think being in a foreign country and lazy journalism are to blame. A good investigative journalist could have found a angolan news source and a local stateside source who spoke the language to interpret.

I would feel more comfortable if we had more trial details and information, as I keep repeating like a broken record, lol.

Does anyone remember who has the kids?

The Shroyers’ five children were brought back to the United States to family members shortly after their mother was arrested. The church said they continue to be taken care of and are working with SIM USA to ensure their ongoing care and support.

Should’ve done it in Minnesota.

Conspiracy:
“(2) if the crime intended is murder in the first degree or treason, to imprisonment for not more than 20 years..”

Interesting point!

Jackie’s IG is still up if we have any newcomers who want to take a peak.

She deserves what she got, in my opinion. Keep in mind that Beau Shroyer died a terrible death, arranged by his spouse. Regarding the church's attitude towards the woman who paid to have her husband murdered, all they really said is that her conviction was fair based on the investigation. They likely know more that we on WS do. My feeling is that the children, after returning to the US, likely revealed what they witnessed/experienced while in Angola, and it supported her conviction. Just speculation, and some reading between the lines.

They have been traumatized on many different levels, and deserve to have their privacy. If they want to speak out after they are all adults, then they can.

Didn't Grandma go to Angola and bring the children home? So she's not ancient and infirm. And the oldest daughter is technically an adult now I think. But still, 5 of them! There will have to be lots of help, and sharing them around. :(

The oldest is barely out of school, the others are very young. That isn’t a conversation anyone would even consider having.

I am confident that she got what she deserved. Other countries don't behave the same way the US does regarding what is made public and what isn't and there's nothing wrong with that.

The defence is set to appeal the court case, with Shroyer’s lawyer, Edivaldo Salvador, complaining that he is dissatisfied with the decision due to inconsistencies in the process and unvalidated evidence, according to local media.
