GUILTY MN - Danielle Jelinek, 27, Chisago Lakes Twp, 8 Dec 2012

I can't figure out why there is such a huge difference between the search for Danielle and the search for Kira Trevino. There is a HUGE effort and turnout for searches for Kira, and the public is very involved. But nothing seems to be happening (at least from what I can tell) with searches for Danielle.

There is mention on FB of waiting for ice and snow cover to be gone, and then focusing searches on bodies of water. I just feel bad for the family having to be in limbo waiting. That kind of search too is going to require specific kinds of searchers, so I really hope they put the word out when the time comes.

I agree sashasnout and I've wondered the same thing. Is it because the search area is more vast and weather played a more important role? Is it the difference between 2 different LE agencies and their policies?

I've noticed there is more Social Media awareness on Kira's case, could that be a difference?

In both cases the POI is in custody. Is LE in Danielle's case playing their cards with the recent arrests of the bf cohorts? Waiting until the conditions improve to search places they may have disclosed? I hope that is the case and her family is being pro active in the background. I think they are.

Idk. I thought I read somewhere that Trevino's husband has confessed. And that's why it's such a hot case. I could be wrong though.

I think both location and timing might play a part in it.
Kira disappeared in a Metro county, but Danielle disappeared in a more rural county. I would guess that LE involved in Kira's case are much more experienced with this type of case, and have more finances available for it. There are also a lot more people living in St. Paul.

Danielle also disappeared shortly before Christmas, and many people are totally preoccupied with that. By the time the holidays were over, her case wasn't that fresh in people's minds and much of the searching had ended because of the weather. Kira disappeared in February (I think), and I think she may have also taken some of the spotlight off of Danielle. I also think that family and friends influence the attention given a lot.
MOO

I haven't heard that he confessed, but I know he left a lot of evidence (the blood in the carpet shaped like/the size of a head and torso, blood in her car, etc.).

Hey guys, new to this thread so forgive if I happen to ask a question or two that was asked prior. I've gone through this thread from the beginning. It's obvious he was into dealing, maybe a distributor as well. I wonder if anything came of that tip that was in the affidavit released, the one saying that Aaron called somebody in a panic bc Danielle od'd and he didn't know what to do...

Going to post stuff I find. Please forgive if anything is a repeat.

2 charged with hiding drugs on day Jelinek vanished
Article by: JIM ANDERSON , Star Tribune Updated: March 25, 2013 - 9:16 PM

Joshua W. Jeans, 32, of Stacy, and Curt E. Bennett, 41, of Wyoming, have each been charged with two felony second- and fifth-degree drug counts after investigators say they removed and hid a duffel bag from Schnagl’s Chisago Lake Township home containing 23 grams of cocaine, more than 9 pounds of marijuana and a variety of pills.

Schnagl was sentenced in Anoka County District Court last month for a parole violation after another 12 pounds of marijuana was found in his garage. Schnagl has adamantly asserted he had nothing to do with Jelinek’s disappearance, and has not been charged in connection with it, nor have Jeans or Bennett.

According to the complaints against Jeans and Bennett, Jeans told an investigator he went to Schnagl’s house Dec. 9 after Schnagl called him to get rid of the duffel bag full of drugs. Jeans is owner of Cutting Edge, an engine repair shop that adjoins Good Guys Automotive Group, a Forest Lake automotive customizing and detailing business co-owned by Schnagl. Bennett works at Cutting Edge.

Both Jeans and Bennett acknowledged that they sold drugs, as did Schnagl and his business partner, the complaint says. Jeans drove the bag to Bennett’s house, and Bennett said _b]he placed it in several garbage bags and buried it in a snowbank[/b].

Four days later, he brought the bag to his sister-in-law’s house in Ham Lake without her knowing it, the complaint says, and hid it under a bed — where investigators found it.

In another search stemming from the case, items seized Dec. 17 from a storage locker in Maplewood rented by Schnagl’s mother included four bins containing bags of marijuana, court documents show. As part of Schnagl’s plea agreement, his mother was not held responsible for the discovery of those drugs, said his defense attorney, Rachael Goldberger.

I read the other two names (Jeans & Bennett]), but who is the third friend? Also, I think the mention of a 30 year probation order is a typo by the editor...

Schnagl drug case holds clues in Oakdale woman's disappearance
Police say suspect’s friends may know more than they’re telling.

The drug case involving Aaron Schnagl, the last known person to have seen Danielle Jelinek before she vanished Dec. 9, reveals a wider circle of suspicion: Authorities believe that three of his friends might know more about her disappearance.

That is also the case with the trio of Schnagl’s friends, said Chisago County Sheriff Rick Duncan. Investigators say the three scrambled to remove and hide a valuable cache of drugs from Schnagl’s house while Schnagl was being questioned about Jelinek at the Sheriff’s Office, and before a search warrant could be executed.

Dive teams have since searched nearby Moody and Bone lakes. When ice depths ease on Green Lake in coming weeks, Duncan said, divers will search there, too. “Our main focus right now is on bodies of water,” he said.

Chisago County District Judge John McBride sentenced Schnagl to 78 months in prison last week after pleading guilty to a charge of second-degree cocaine possession. As part of a plea agreement, two lesser charges of possessing and selling marijuana were dismissed_/b], said Assistant Chisago County Attorney Jennifer Santoro Bovitz, who prosecuted the case.

The sentence will run concurrently with an 86-month jail term to which Schnagl had been sentenced after another drug conviction in Anoka County. In that 2006 case, Schnagl had been sentenced to 30 years of probation, and the prison term was stayed as long as he complied with the conditions. The Chisago County charges violated that probation, putting the prison term into effect.
