IMO, Danielle was doing drugs with her ex and she overdosed and he panicked.

Which is why they charged him with third degree murder instead of first.

that said, I hope he gets the full 25 years.

Who knows, maybe she thought she could save him/change him.

"Jury selection in Chisago County District Court was halted just as it began last week.

The key issue stems from the revelation of new statements from a witness questioned early in the investigation of Jelinek’s five-month disappearance and death.

The statements to state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigators were discovered by prosecutors and disclosed to Schnagl’s defense attorney, Melvin Welch, just days before the trial was to start on June 15. Court rules require prosecutors to turn over all evidence that may aid in an accused criminal’s defense."

More than two years after the death of an Oakdale woman, and months of delays, the murder trial for her ex-boyfriend started Tuesday.

Aaron Schnagl is charged with third-degree murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend, Danielle Jelinek.

Jury selection started Tuesday at the Chisago County Courthouse. A judge gave 48 potential jurors a questionnaire, and those who make the preliminary cut will return Wednesday.

Jury members probably won’t be designated until today (Jan. 7) or Friday. The court has this trial scheduled until approximately the end of this month.

The trial will not be bifurcated, or split into two proceedings, as was requested in an earlier defense motion. Consideration of Schnagl allegedly hiding the deceased’s body will not be separated out, but will be part of the overall unintentional homicide trial.

First time I have seen it mentioned that Schnagl might of placed Danielle in the swamp. I would think the bottom of her feet would have shown if she walked in the snow and ice since she reportedly wasn't wearing any shoes IIRC.

Prosecutors allege Schnagl and Jelinek, described as intimate friends, partied with cocaine and alcohol when Jelinek began to overdose. They said her eyes rolled back in her head and she began foaming at the mouth. But rather than calling emergency responders, prosecutors told jurors that Schnagl decided his drug dealing business was more important to protect.

Schnagl allegedly brought Jelinek’s lifeless body to a nearby swamp and dropped her there. Searchers wouldn’t find her for more than 5 months. She allegedly only had on a tank top -- no shoes, no pants, nothing else.

Prosecutors have said autopsy photos will show no cuts or bruises on Jelinek’s feet to suggest she walked barefoot across 4 football fields, through woods and into the swamp on her own.

A Chisago County man, Aaron Schnagl, was found guilty of third-degree murder Friday evening for providing the cocaine that killed Danielle Jelinek.

In a related decision, the jury found him not guilty of concealing her body, which would have meant a stiffer prison sentence had he been convicted...

A sentencing date will be set Monday.

A Chisago County man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison in the death of 27-year-old Danielle Jelinek.

Aaron Schnagl was found guilty of third-degree murder in February for providing Jelinek with the cocaine that killed her. He was found not guilty of hiding her body.

On Friday, Schnagl was sentenced to just over 13 years in prison, with credit for three years already served. He will have to serve at least two-thirds of that remaining sentence.
