It's almost impossible to pull verifiable facts from the scene at the moment.
There are two or 100 stories or more.
Daunte Wright was shot and killed by LE in the course of a traffic alteration
The full circumstances are unclear at the moment.
And the rumor mongers are all contradicting each other.
The other story or 100 is about the protests and looting that have occurred this evening as a response.
That's all I got after 2 hours!

It could be morning before any facts emerge...

It may well affect the atmosphere in the court room if this is accurate

yeah, I'm trying not to check twitter. I watched way too many livestreams last summer/fall. I do believe that smaller protests have continued while the trial has gone on. I am concerned about jurors, and what they will or will not hear and if they lose any jurors over this.

From the PD press release:

officers determined that the driver of the vehicle had an outstanding warrant. At one point as officers were attempting to take the driver into custody, the driver re-entered the vehicle.

One officer discharged their firearm, striking the driver. The vehicle traveled several blocks before striing another vehicle.

it also says that their body and dash cams were on, so that is good.

Unbelievable. He was wanted on some kind of charge and was killed because he did not stop?

There's obviously more to it than that. A cop was injured and taken to the hospital.

Was that not at the protests following the event?

They did a short news conference not long ago, I'm just listening now.

Brooklyn Center is a northern suburb of Minneapolis, I’m in Minneapolis and just dropping by to convey how hard all of this is for the entire twin cities community.. it feels like it’s never ending. I think that no one will be held accountable given the facts coming out but it still feels like the scabs cannot heal. :(
Moo.
My heart is breaking for the Twin Cities (and for all of us).

I'm confused and hope the stories straighten out today. I read that he only had had the car for two weeks.

Sounds like he was shot in Plymouth and then drove himself to Brooklyn Center before dying??

A little more info in this article:
Protests erupt after police shoot Black driver near Minneapolis

What they're saying: Katie Wright, the driver's mother, told reporters earlier Sunday she was on the phone to her son when he encountered police while driving.

  • "He said they pulled him over because he had air fresheners hanging from his rearview mirror," she said.
  • His mother said she heard him being told to put the phone down and get out of the car before she heard "scuffling" and the call ended. His girlfriend answered when she called back and "my son was laying there lifeless," she added.

Was he pulled over for a warrant or because of items on his rear-view mirror?

What was he getting in his car - a phone to video the encounter, a weapon?

Did he drive away in the car after being shot or not?

Was he pulled over in Plymouth or Brooklyn Center?

If LE felt he "had" to be shot, why shoot to kill and not shoot in the leg?

"Brooklyn Center police said in a statement that officers had stopped a motorist shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday. After determining the driver had an outstanding warrant, police tried to arrest the driver. The driver reentered the vehicle and an officer fired at the vehicle, striking the driver, police said. The vehicle traveled several blocks before striking another vehicle."

Man shot, killed during Minnesota traffic stop sparks unrest

Sounds like he was pulled over, then it was discovered he had an outstanding warrant. Allegedly the warrant was for a traffic violation, and it wasn't clear if Daunte knew there was a warrant. I can't find that article again, so I will MOO for now. (I think it was in a local report.)

I've now seen articles saying 1) Had a warrant, pulled him over and 2) Pulled him over and discovered there was a warrant.

All articles do seem to agree that there is body cam and dash cam footage, so I'm sure we'll know more later today.
