How far is work from home, I wonder? Would David take a bus or would he walk home?

David Benson was last seen at 6:40 a.m. at the intersection of Pilot Knob Road and Washington Drive.

So is this the same area as Yankee Doodle? Asking because that is where other articles state he was last seen at
Yes. LE should have put cross streets.
IMO
He must work in that area and just walked out of work. There are lots of retail stores in that area.
If it was only a work issue, he would have gone home. He left work and home and has caused his family and friends extreme concern for his safety.
It is in the 30s today and tomorrow so hope he seeks shelter.
He could have hitched a ride or taken the bus.
Prayers

Maybe he ran to get a coffee or a quick breakfast? That’s the only thing I could think of why someone would leave on foot, while leaving keys and phone but keeping wallet.. at 640am..
otherwise I’m very much leaning towards self harm and I wish I wasn’t :(

Wonder how close the nearest lake/river/stream is...

If he was just going to grab a coffee or breakfast sandwich, I'd think he'd take his phone along. That does worry me. And I do worry about self harm too. :(

I wonder where he works and what his demeanor was during his last shift.

My grandparents lived in this area so I know it really well. Washington Dr. does not really intersect Pilot Knob, it is a little street that winds through a commercial zone between Yankee Doodle (W-E) and Pilot Knob (N-S)where the red pin is here:

My guess is he was picked up, because more cameras would have caught him walking somewhere. There is a lot of water - ponds, lakes, marshy strips and retention areas and if they are partially iced or covered in snow a person could fall in. There is snowy rain and ice predicted yesterday and today with a winter storm warning, but Monday it seemed clear. It would have been dark when he was walking, so he maybe could have fallen into water if he tried cutting across, but those ponds are all really obvious unless they're covered in snow. My gut feeling is he took off voluntarily but that doesn't mean its good.

This was my thought as well. My office shares a parking lot with his and you can see a Dunkin Donuts (1-2 minute walk) that a lot of us frequent for breakfast. I often walk to the DD when its warm without phone and keys. In-between the office and the DD there is a hotel and a large parking lot. The hotel can be kinda shady since its right off the highway (often police out front) and shady mobile homes in the parking lot. When I get to work at 7:30 I am one of the first people in the lot. If he was here at 6:40 he would have been pretty much alone. No cameras facing the lot. Police also searched the mailbox in the lot. Not sure if they found anything.

I wonder why he was there so early? Just to place the email? Does anyone know if there is a reason they are searching the wooded area?

The significance of the email forward is likely just to show that they have proof he accessed his work pc at 6:40 before he was seen on camera. The entire area at least .5 mile will be searched as routine, especially wooded areas in the event he was distraught or otherwise ended up deceased there. LE are likley chasing down any other leads that could support him being somewhere alive, including reviewing footage. His family and friends are really distraught which leads me to believe they know something that suggests he was suicidal. JMO.

Wow! Great news!

Relieved! I hope everyone goes easy on him - periods of no contact often mean severe stress or feeling overwhelmed. He needs support and hugs and forgiveness.

Holidays can sometimes be pretty sad times for folks... remember to check in with your loved ones... and maybe even those you don't love but who might just need a gentle hand.
