MN - Dentist Kills a Tame Lion- Catches Heat, July 2015

Nope. LoL.....because I'm sure you would have posted at least one missing or murdered child in the last 8 years.

My FB friends are obviously oblivious to the plight of humans. Most of them are still arguing about the stupid flag or whipping and Nae nae-ing. Real braniacs, I'm telling ya!!!

Like I said, those of us here at WS obviously care about people, too. But seriously....why wasn't there the same outrage for little Deer Island Doe from the "general public?" Demand for her murderer? She's a human child, for Heaven's sake!!!! A poor, defenseless, baby...

I don't know how we can demand anything an Deer Island Doe case. Police can't figure out who the child was, let alone who (if anybody) killed her. Whereas we know who killed Cecil.

I was just reading something on the topic of how can you be upset about this and not about that?

My Outrage Is Better Than Your Outrage
Even when a dentist kills an adored lion, and everyone is furious, there’s loftier righteousness to be had.

I haven't read through the entire thread. Please forgive me if this has been posted already.

LOL! Some good points and amusing.

An interesting thing I've noticed here on Websleuths--some cases provoke more outrage in some of us regulars than in others. I've noticed great passion in myself regarding some cases, while other Sleuthers seemingly didn't give a flip, and vice versa.

I think none of us has the capacity to feel equal outrage over every murdered child (or adult for that matter) since they are sadly so common, so our level of outrage regarding any particular case results from our own personal experience, knowledge, upbringing, personalities, geographical location, and whatnot.

Whereas, there are many aspects of Cecil's killing that resonate more universally on our outrage meters. For me, more or less in order of priority:

1. Lions are an endangered species. Therefore they should never be killed unless to put them out of suffering, or in response to a threat. This killing met neither of those specifications.

2. He was, in fact, killed primarily because the man had the money to pay for it. $50K or maybe $55K, depending on the source. Think about that. He spent more than the majority of American households earn in a year just to kill an animal that posed him no threat and that he certainly didn't need to kill to obtain food.

I could go on, but just to sum up:

If there were any means to stop people from killing each other, surely we would have figured it out by now.

Yet this lion's death was preventable on so many levels. And it wouldn't even be an issue for me if lions weren't endangered.

Hell, if the guy wants to kill a scary big animal, he could hire himself out to help eradicate the feral hogs that are tearing up cattle and farmland in Texas, and Oklahoma, and other states as well. He probably could have even gotten paid to do it. Of course, feral hogs are fierce and brutal. In stalking them he would have taken on a bit of risk.

But no, he had to pay an obscene sum to go kill an endangered animal on another continent in what no one could ever possibly describe as a fair fight, in which he was at no time at risk.

ETA: For clarification, I don't give a flying flip whether the lion in question was the tame Cecil or his illegitimate brother Earl that was kept in a shed to preserve the family's honor. The point is, LION. ENDANGERED SPECIES. DO NOT KILL FOR NO GOOD REASON.

Although Palmer has taken down any sites associated with himself or his office, someone has created a site for 'River Bluff Dental'-----complete with photos and reviews.

Oh goodness my Facebook feed is now being inundated with posts about how people care more about lions than starving children. As if a person can't be concerned with more than one thing. Blech.
And these people fail to realize that cruelty to humans (serial killers) starts with cruelty to animals. You can't get more cruel than killing an animal who was lured and no threat- wild or not, plus lions are an endangered species!!!

If the "alleged lion killer" is tried in the U.S. we can expect the same "justice" that the American vet received for happily killing a domestic house cat pet with a bow and arrow.
Actually the U.S. started considering in 2014 putting the lion on the endangered species list. I read it in some article.

I'll admit....it has bothered the heck out of me that more people know about this one lion than the combined people who are aware of Deer Island Doe or the Suitcase Doe in Australia. I have close to 1000 FB friends. None of them....NONE....have shared Deer Island Doe's flyer but me, while hundreds of them have posted something or another about this lion.

Why? Because "tame" lions don't get killed every day, but little girls do and no one bats an eye anymore. That's just the truth. I see daily posts about mistreated or lost animals, but yet if it wasn't for my WS membership, I wouldn't even know the names of many of these abused or murdered children. I've posted the same on my FB and I got responses like "well, people can care about both." Totally....but those same people? Show me where they've shared anything about the atrocities towards children on their timeline. Yeah....it's not there. It may not be everyone, it may not be my fellow WSers, but from my perspective, lots of people have their priorities WAY out of order. #humanlivesmatter

I think many people are like me: we ASSUME people are outraged by a missing or murdered child. We're not so sure that people in general realize the African lion is at risk for extinction.

Did I read that right - Dr. Seski has killed 6 African elephants too? I simply cannot wrap my mind around how or why people do this...

I'm reading it same as you. Good freaking grief. What kind of sicko wants to kill a freaking elephant in the first place, much less SIX of them? In a natural environment, they are among the gentlest, most nonviolent creatures on earth. Not to mention endangered.

WHY WHY WHY?

I want to preface this by saying I am not comfortable with with the hunting of elephants (or lions, etc). It frankly makes me sick.

With that said I have learned a bit about African elephant hunting because of a friend who has done it. Old elephants (and I'm talking 40 years plus) have often times gone thru their 6th - and last - set if teeth. (http://www.eleaid.com/elephant-information/elephant-teeth/) At this point they will starve to death. These are the elephants the legit guides/organizations hunt. They are not allowed to suffer. My friend does not take anything from the elephant. The meat is given to the local tribe.

Do I think Dr S went thru such an organization? Not likely after this incident.

I just wanted to through out a little of what I learned.

Very true. I as well know people that hunt outside of the u.s. and the meat from the animal is donated to the local tribe in the area, at least that is what a friend said that hunted ibex and kudu in africa. And also know someone (female) that is going to hawaii to hunt big horn sheep. I am not sure about this story, waiting for more info to come out but at the time the ones that erred are the guide and land owner who they have talked to, but we'll see. jmo idk

And- when you thought you'd already reached the point of total disgust at the human race, there is this:

http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world...of-animal-kills/ar-BBllfC6?ocid=mailsignoutmd

The media firestorm in the past week is now bringing out all the proud 'hunters' to throw their blood lust in the world's collective face. Note she uses the Bible to support her indulgence. One problem though- the scriptural passage seems to refer to hunting for food, not for sport.

Why haven't they talked to Palmer? Oh that's right--because he's hiding. He was there when they lured Cecil out of the park with food so he knew exactly what was going on. He also saw the collar when they chopped off his head and said nothing at the time. All 3 of them knew what they were doing was wrong and all 3 should be held accountable. At least the guide and the land owner aren't pathetic cowards like Palmer and are facing the consequences. That makes Palmer the worst of the 3 IMO.

They have talked to Palmer.

So if I am reading this correctly today being monday 8/03/2015 and Palmer reached out to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on thursday that would make it july 30,2015 he had spoken to the authorities on this end. And it would appear that he has spoken to authorities there as well.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials were trying to locate and speak to Palmer last week about the case, until he reached out Thursday.

"Late yesterday afternoon, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Law Enforcement was contacted by a representative of Dr. Walter Palmer. The Service's investigation is ongoing and appreciates that Dr. Palmer's representative voluntarily reached out to the Service," a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service spokesperson said Friday.

Palmer had told Zimbabwe authorities he relied on professional guides to ensure his hunt was legal. Two Zimbabwean citizens were arrested and face charges.

A representative for Palmer reached out, not Palmer himself directly. Big tough guy isn't looking so tough now days---he's looking more like the coward that he is.
