MN MN - Elle Ragin, 6, Mother Found Deceased, Northfield, July 2022

Too devastating to think about....I just don't get this one. Mother and daughter looked at each other with such love in the photos we've seen. People said she was a wonderful mother to her child. What happened? I haven't seen any mention of the father yet...was he involved in their lives?

"We are concerned that we may not be able to find Elle alive,” Northfield Police Chief Mark Elliott said this afternoon after 6-year-old Elle Ragin's phone was found in a park near the Mississippi River and her mother left a note that said "Elle is dead."

The actual article is behind a paywall so I can't link. Sorry.

The paywall didn't show up when I clicked on it. Maybe it is regional paywall?

From article:

A note was found at the residence that stated: “Elle is dead. I love you all. I am so sorry sorry sorry sorry,” according to a search warrant application.

Blood and hair were found in a garbage can in the garage, the court document states. A cadaver dog was alerted to a scent in a vehicle in the garage, according to the warrant application that sought and received a judge’s permission to review Wade’s cellphone records.
Elliott said Tuesday those records showed Wade was at Mississippi River County Park in Stearns County on June 21. The cellphone was shut off in the area of the park and was not turned back on.

RBBM. It’s so horrific. Of course I wish I was shocked at the outcome but I guess I’m too cynical. mOO

This does not sound good at all. I wish we knew more about what was going on in the mom’s life. It sounds like she and Elle were very close, so I wonder what happened that led to this?

I didn't realize the river search was two hours away from their home. And the mother stayed in that area for two days. #sigh

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (FOX 9) - Search efforts for a missing 6-year-old Minnesota girl continued on Tuesday, with investigators now searching areas along the Mississippi River in Stearns County, two hours away from her Northfield home.

snip

Northfield Police Chief Mark Elliott said investigators have since determined that Elle was last seen on June 19.

Two days later, on June 21, her mother drove from Northfield to Mississippi River County Park. At 3 p.m. that day, investigators say Wade's cell phone shut off and never turned back on.

Two days after that, on June 23, police say Wade had contact with a deputy at the park around 9 a.m. The mother told the deputy that she had lost her phone and keys while hiking and was locked out of her vehicle. According to Chief Elliott, the mother was "conversational" and there was no clear indication that anything was wrong. The deputy helped arrange for a tow of the vehicle to a local shop to get new keys.

The following week, Chief Elliott says family members got distraught phone calls from Wade. On Saturday, July 2, police were called by a family member to Wade's home for a welfare check. That's when they discovered her body.

Since then, police say they recovered two cell phones from Mississippi River County Park. On land, they found an inactive cell phone that belonged to Elle. In the river, they found Wade's cell phone and purse with her key fob inside.

Police have also found a video showing Wade at several locations between June 23 and July 2. Each time, she was without Elle. Chief Elliott says investigators were told that the mother and daughter were close, and it was unusual for Wade to go somewhere without her daughter.

I'm curious if Elle's dad was in her life at all? Were there problems with custody perhaps?

I wonder where she was seen on video on July 2? That is the day she was found deceased. I’m also confused by the statement that “police have also found a video showing Wade at several locations between June 23 and July 2”—a singular video filmed at multiple locations over multiple days suggests to me that LW filmed herself.

At this point I am thinking maybe mental health crisis issues? Maybe she had a very strong urge to kill herself, but loved her child so much, didn't want her girl to suffer through that, and to be left alone after?

The girl's cellphone was found on land at Mississippi River Park and Wade's purse and cellphone were found in the river.

Police say Elle was last seen June 19 and four days later her mother had contact with a Stearns County sheriff's deputy at the park and told the officer she lost her phone and car keys while hiking and needed help. The deputy assisted her in getting her vehicle towed.

I wish this case was getting more attention.

Most of the time, there is an "aha" moment this far into an investigation.

There was blood and hair found in a trashcan and cadaver dogs hit on a scent in mom's vehicle.
Does anyone think there is a possibility that the child was deceased inside the home for a few days before the mother went out to the woods to dispose of her?
She was small...but , did this woman carry her (the little girl) into the woods and dispose of her?
Is that possible? Is there anyone on WS that has familiarity with the park itself, and how the parking lot is located in proximity to the woods and the water?
ER phone was found on land..mom's phone and purse in the water with her keys locked inside of the vehicle.

None of this sounds like a case that I have followed before.

I hate that my mind keeps thinking about dismemberment. :( The hair and blood found in the garbage can at home makes me wonder whether Lisa disposed of Elle's remains, or some of the remains, in the trash. Do LE have plans to search the landfill? Have they checked nearby dumpsters for evidence? Perhaps Lisa disposed of Elle's remains in multiple places which may or may not include the park where she hung out for a couple of days. Seems like Lisa would not have stuck around there knowing Elle's remains could have been discovered by others, imo. It could be the case that she was at the park contemplating her own suicide there. Maybe she tried drowning herself but was unsuccessful, which is why her purse and phone were in the water. Just thinking out loud while trying to make sense of a confusing situation.

So I am thinking either she harmed Elle and had such fear of repercussion for that she disposed of Elle's body in the river but while doing so her purse (with keys phone etc) was accidently lost in the water, or she went there intent on killing her child and herself but couldn't complete the final act. After getting home she continued experience suicidal ideation and finally followed through with her plan.

So odd these facts don't quite add up the way I need them to. Still too many missing pieces.

This is what I think happened too. Since she originally went there on June 21 and that's the last time her phone was on, and then made contact with the sheriff's deputy on June 23rd... I am willing to bet she was there the entire time and wasn't able to complete whatever part of her plan she intended to carry out. I'm curious if she actually sought out assistance from the sheriff's deputy, or if he found her somewhere in the park/parking lot?

Hmmm... possibly?
but why was there hair and blood in the trash can at her home?
Why was the scent of decomposition inside of her vehicle, at least enough that cadaver dogs hit on it?

I am perplexed.

Maybe she disposed of the child before she went to the river? She may have tried a murder/suicide in the home, maybe with poison or she smothered the child. And she planned to kill herself too? And she failed.

So she takes child's cell and some things to the river, where she is going to drown herself? And fails again?

I remember a few cases like this, but can't remember the names----but parents and spouses sometimes

Oh, I should’ve clarified- I think unfortunately she took sweet Elle’s body (already passed, killed at home? Ugh hurts to type that) in her car to the river/park to dispose of it there. Or honestly she could’ve taken her body anywhere and then she herself went to the river to end her own life but wasn’t successful for whatever reason. All of this- Elle’s life taken, whatever state of mind Lisa was in to carry this out, Lisa’s eventual suicide- is beyond horrible. So so sad.
