Because most white Americans don't see it that way. They see the immediate effects of it in the present. It's an old but effective playbook, protests lead to riots lead to looting. After that line has been crossed, most Americans become very law and order.

The looting is so self-destructive.

When Justine Damond was shot in cold blood by a Min eapo

police officer, there was no violent
protest, no looting and no rioting
It is so wrong to put firefighters in danger. They had nothing to do with this. How is setting buildings on fire going to help?

The people that did this are thugs and opportunists -they found an opportunity and took advantage of it----they are destroying their own city- also looting ---- it is sickening and disgusting.

Until the dehumanization of POC stops, society is going to be dealing with periodic riots that bubble up. We must treat people of all backgrounds equally.

George Floyd's siblings fundraisers have raised about $1.7 million at this time.

Justine Damond's killer got 12 1/2 years in prison. Philandro Castile's murderer walked free after having been defended by the same man representing the officer who killed George Floyd.

Buildings can be rebuilt. Target will reopen. George Floyd will never breathe again. Sandra Bland. Tamir Rice. Trayvon Martin. Breonna Taylor. Philandro Castile. Eric Garner. Michael Brown. Ahmaud Aubery. Oscar Grant. Terrence Crutcher. Walter Scott. Samuel Dubois. Sean Reed. Steve Taylor. Terrance Franklin. Ariane Mccree. Stephon Clark. Devon Bailey. Chris Whitefield. Anthony Hall. Michael Dean. Tony McDade.

Maybe if Justine Damond's family and community had felt the crushing weight of systematic discrimination bearing down on them, of the fear for every one of their family members that justice would never come, the knowledge that so many women like her had been murdered on camera and their killers walked free- just maybe they'd have felt like burning something down too.

*edit apparently my autocorrect doesn't know the word "floyd" and it's five in the morning and i've been making croutons for six hours because i'm too stressed and sad and angry to sleep

Rioting hasn't worked either. And it won't prompt demands for change across all races, genders and economic classes, it will prompt businesses and the middle classes to move out of the area making the problems worse than they are already.

So what will work?

People of all races have been killed unjustly. Police officers have been killed unjustly by people of all races.

How does rioting solve anything? How does stealing a big screen tv from Target solve anything?

It doesn't solve anything but it sure identifies real quick the people who care more about material things than the people who died. People riot. All it took was a super bowl victory for people to start trashing cars and burning things. It's just a convenient excuse for people to say "well I WOULD be on the correct side of history if only they weren't so VIOLENT and LAWLESS."

boston tea party did about $1700000 worth of property damage, while we're keeping track.

Police arrest CNN correspondent Omar Jimenez and crew on live television

@MnDPS_MSP

In the course of clearing the streets and restoring order at Lake Street and Snelling Avenue, four people were arrested by State Patrol troopers, including three members of a CNN crew. The three were released once they were confirmed to be members of the media.

@CNNPR
This is not accurate - our CNN crew identified themselves, on live television, immediately as journalists. We thank Minnesota
@GovTimWalz for his swift action this morning to aid in the release of our crew.

The mayor should be arrested for inciting a riot. What a disaster.

There is a huge difference between peaceful protesting for justice and stealing and looting and setting your city on fire. These 4 officers must face the consequences of their horrific actions and soon so this destruction doesn't continue but what these rioters are doing is 100% wrong and does NOTHING for the cause. (Except put a 70 inch TV in their home)

This senselessness goes above and beyond the level of super bowl rioting. And people who trash cars etc. after super bowl get arrested.

This is putting firefighters and others at risk, and eliminating the livelihood of many. Including minorities.

Some of these businesses will never be rebuilt, and that will hurt the community in the long run. Taxpayer dollars will be required to rebuild the police station and other public buildings.

Talk about a lose-lose situation.....

Yes I guess it does. The people who use George Floyd's death as an excuse to go looting clearly do care more about material things than the man who died.

What part of move, does CNN not understand? They are placing themselves and others in harms way.

They waste no time arresting reporters, but still no arrest of the murderer. Interesting.
