Searchers looking for missing 2-year-old in Edina | The Mighty 790 KFGO | KFGO

Police in a Minneapolis suburb are searching for a 2-year-old girl who apparently wandered away from her family on her own.

• Iklas Abdullahi Ahmed has been missing since around 5 p.m. Monday.
• She was last seen near Rosland Park in Edina.
• A search of the park continued overnight.
• Police asked residents in the area to check their properties for signs of the girl.
• She was wearing white clothes and an orange hijab when she went missing.

I could be incorrect, but I would think that a very small child wearing a hijab would be fairly recognizable. Prayers for this sweet baby!

Minnesota authorities expanded their search Tuesday morning, in hopes of finding a toddler who disappeared Monday while out with family at Rosland Park in Edina.

According to officials, 2-year-old Iklas Abdullahi Ahmed was last seen with her family off of 4300 block of West 66th Street at around 5 p.m. Monday. Police said the girl may have wandered off on her own.

After searching the park Monday, police expanded the search Tuesday to include the surrounding areas

Update (Tues. 9:30a) - Search efforts continue. An updated clothing description of the girl has been provided by family: yellow top, blue leggings, pink shoes. She is autistic and non-verbal and may not respond. 1/2

We have enough resources at Rosland Park but ask nearby residents to search properties in areas that may not be obvious (under decks, window wells, sheds). Rosland Park remains closed today and West 66th Street is closed between Valley View Road and West Shore Drive. 2/2

Could perhaps be down to wearing the hijab? Considering the hijab could possibly have been pulled back, maybe too big or something. Either way it would have been covered so maybe that's why.

Edina, Minn., Sep. 7, 2021 – The body of a missing girl was recovered early Tuesday afternoon in the area of Rosland Park, concluding a search that spanned more than 18 hours.

“On behalf of the City, I want to send our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to the family and loved ones of this young girl,” said Edina Police Chief Todd Milburn. “Our hearts go out to all those affected by this devastating tragedy.”

Shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday, members of the Hennepin County Water Rescue team located the girl’s body in the water adjacent to Rosland Park, 4300 W. 66th Street.

Additional details will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office at a later time, and the Edina Police investigation is ongoing.

It's not super unusual for a 2 year old to be "nonverbal" so it's a little odd to me for it (and "autistic") to have been such an immediate part of the report. That combined with the scalp injuries (that look to me like they were inflicted as part of the hair braiding) raise questions, I think.
