There seems to be a discrepancy here between 2 reports of this incident...

In the interview Esme Murphy quoted DR:
"Rassier says after he searched the buildings on the farm property and returned to the farmhouse, law enforcement was everywhere".

In Joy's blog 'Dan's Story' Joy quotes DR:
"He heads down the road/driveway and searches the outbuildings. Every one of them. You would think there would be cops everywhere, but Dan said there were not. A helicopter was searching the woods and fields around his house, but as far as he knows, there were no cops who came down into the yard all night...just the few up by the woodpile earlier."

IMO, that is where the confusion in stories comes from. Not sure which version is correct, since they were both quoting DR?

So which story is true? Is he lying? Exceptional discovery.

I'm a little bit slow. A few WS'ers indicated they thought it might be possible that perhaps DR was not the perp but may know who the culprit was. A well versed cohort on the case recently enlightened me as to what that might mean.<modsnip>

Dan talked to the media, big mistake, he's made it known he doesnt want to be a POI. If he were helping le and knows who did this, LE would have instructed him not to talk to the media imo.

There is more where he said he did not think it worth it to search

There is more where he said he did not think it worth it to search

"Remember he is the witness who placed a car at the scene. Later that night he heard a commotion. It was the search and it was in his yard. He went back to bed.

Trish Van Pilsum: 'Why would you go to bed when a kid had just disappeared?'

The Man: 'I wanted to get some sleep. I wasn’t going to waste my time.' "

It's based on facts which we can't discuss on this forum. But it was definitely a sexually motivated crime. Research online will show you more.

  • #507
It's not a conclusion, it's an assertion.

Assertion = a positive statement or declaration, often without support or reason.

They "confirm"----> different ball game altogether.

Are you saying in your opinion is was more of an assertion, than a confirmation of facts?

Does asking their ages and selecting one of three confirm a sexual abduction?

I'm confused, if they are facts, why can't we discuss them here?

Could it be a teacher who took his power and a game too far? Then having to save face? Maybe?

Do you have a link which shows the crime was "confirmed" to be sexually motivated? Let's start there.

TIA!

I saw this on thread 13, post 1340. "Confirmed" is a strong word. To me, it means there's evidence to "confirm" that the crime was sexually motivated.

There's several facts that lead ME to think it's probable. St. Johns Abby being so close, and crawling with pedophiles. Then, several POIs who were convicted, or alleged, sexual predators. Of course, then there's the questions the abductor of Jacob asked the boys.

I did not see a link on post 1340 to show WHY Patty and LE confirm the abduction to be sexually motivated.

Quote from Patty Wetterling: ""This is a sexually motivated crime. Sometimes, you need to say that," Patty said. "So, it's not like we're in la-la land."
http://www.sctimes.com/story/news/local/2014/10/18/wetterlings-still-coping-heartbreak/17529251/

Quote from Donovan Mikelson (former chief of police): "The kidnapper, who I absolutely believe to be Dan Rassier, saw them drive past the end of his driveway (actually his parents farm) and knew the were going into town and knew they were coming back that same way. He stepped out in front of them with his pistol and told them to stop and choose the one he wanted. He also fondled one or all of the boys in the groin area to maybe see who had the best package? He told the boys to leave and not turn around and, look and that gave him ample time to step into the trees on his parents farm. Go to Google Earth and check it out and you will see how easily it could be done. If Law Enforcement would have made a thorough search of the Rassier farm, they might have found something. If they would have had dogs immediately, it might have led them right to Jacob. It is nearly impossible to change my mind on the killer of Jacob but I still keep an open mind. Good accurate points you made and I appreciate your posting them."

The fondling has also been confirmed by 2 retired FBI. So the fondling shows sexual motivation in the abduction.

From the book "It Can't Happen Here" page 99:

"It was someone who knew the area very well," Grafft said. A person had to have stalked them quite a while to do this. We think it's a sex offender, no doubt about it."

Over the years investigators made several other references to the sexual nature of the kidnapping

Sher, on Joys latest blog posting she has a photo of 1989 St. Joe. She has a pin marking what appears to be a gravel road. Baker Street? That could be pretty significant if there is an access road right there that was indeed there back then. Take a look, what do you think?

I'm not sure which pin you're looking at? The one that says "balding gray haired man"? Baker Street was there in 1989, it went from 16th/19th and curved around Northeast towards Tom Thumb. There may have been a dirt road going into the woods where the party spot was, nothing paved though. There was another party spot in the woods that was in between where it says "abduction spot" and those swamps shown on that black and white map.

So if Baker Street was there, someone actually could have seen the boys at the Tom Thumb and taken Baker Street to get ahead of them without them seeing a car pass them.

How would DR know they were going into town and not having a sleep-over at one of the boy's homes? There is no way he (or anyone else) would have known that.
