FROM LINK ABOVE:

"A number of items
were seized pursuant to the search warrants and will require additional processing and or analysis which could take several weeks to possibly months to complete," the Stearns County Sheriff Department statement said".

I have respectfully added bold and changed the font of pertinent part of quote for clarity.

Many articles cite that piles of dirt and ash were removed, however, this article states that many items were removed from the property. I don't know what items or from where on or within the buildings (?) of the property but items to me implies more than dirt and ash -- anyone else think so?

I also found the following link which furthers my belief that buildings were searched, and items beyond dirt and ash were indeed seized:

http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/dpp/news/minnesota/jacob-wetterling-search-items-seized-july-2-2010

"The sheriff’s office said Friday a number of items were seized in those searches. They also said those seized items will require additional processing and analysis, which could take "several weeks or months" to complete. Investigators and dogs searched some buildings at 29748 91st Ave on Wednesday, then on Thursday a backhoe and dump trucks were brought in for digging. Several dump trucks were filled with dirt and taken to garages at a Stearns County public works facility, sealed off by police tape – presumably to be analyzed for anything relating to the disappearance of Jacob Wetterling."

Yes, many articles have stated they took several items besides the dirt and ash.

Thats unfortunate that nothing was found to help them further along in the search for Jacob! Imagine the heartbreak and disappointment of his mother, father and siblings today! Even if they hadn't linked the crime to DR, I had hoped that some scrap of evidence might be found which might help them piece together what happened to Jacob!! I still hope for a resolution to this case -- and hope that something one day will be found which will help solve this mystery!

Here are a few things of interest in the article:

"KSTP.com has learned investigators did recover clothing articles and animal bones in the dirt and ash taken from the farm. Some of those items were sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension lab for testing.

Sources tell KSTP.com, investigators removed several items from the farm, including a lawn chair, the base of a patio umbrella stand and a cedar chest. The items had been stored in an area above a four stall garage on the Rassier property.

We have also learned investigators seized a box from Daniel Rassier's bedroom containing news clipping's and articles about the Jacob Wetterling abduction. That box also contained part of Rassier's journal."

So, do you suppose there will be an apology to DR? Cripes. His reputation has been tarnished, and for what? Absolutely no evidence that he is involved in three searches of the property.

Now I'm really interested in knowing what was inside of those "big boxes" that were found in the trunk of DR's car right after the abduction that the bone-headed police didn't bother to search . :furious:
I'm not saying he's guilty, but he could have removed the evidence from the farm right after the abduction, he had enough time to do so and it would have been the intelligent thing to do.

Wow, kinda creepy that he had a box in his bedroom with clippings about the abduction! And even though they found nothing in the dirt and ash, they haven't said he is no longer a POI.
This article from a different Twin Cities news station states they will do further testing on some items and that these were just preliminary findings. Doesn't look good though for solving the case.

I wonder what was written in the journal? and why on earth would he put a part of his journal with news clippings of the abduction? .. I'm just furious over the whole situation right now and I can't imagine what the Wetterlings must be going through right now

I know they've been through this many times before but my heart breaks for the Wetterlings. I'd so hoped this time, something would be found to bring them closer to solving this mystery.

Regarding the boys description of the man who took Jacob, I'm wondering how accurate you could expect that recollection to be, even very soon after the event. From this web site, there is a reprint from Readers Digest, Nov. 1999 describing that night.

http://missing87975.yuku.com/topic/2457

" "The boys were hysterical when they burst in," Rochelle says. "'A man with a gun took Jacob!' they kept screaming." Trevor collapsed into Rochelle's arms, weeping uncontrollably. Aaron went straight for a spot on the floor between two kitchen counters and wedged himself into the tight opening to hide, crying and chewing desperately on his hands. "I called my dad next door," Rochelle says. "He was there in less than a minute." He instantly called Patty and Jerry Wetterling, and they rushed home. The police reached the Wetterling house seven minutes after Rochelle's father called 911. The officers asked Trevor and Aaron to show them exactly where the abduction occurred and what happened. Soon a growing number of police and firefighters were out looking for Jacob. A helicopter with a searchlight darted above the trees, probing the woods and fields. By the next day, hundreds more had joined the search. "

Those boys were severely traumatized. Their description of the man who took Jacob could be off. But that is simply based on my own speculation & opinion. How sad, we're still no closer to knowing what happened.

Have they gone through the soil as well, or just the items?

ETA: apparently so:
Investigators spent a week sifting through the soil and sent what they found to the BCA labs.

from the link in the above post.

From today's Times article:
When asked Tuesday if Rassier is still considered a person of interest, Sanner said, “This doesn’t change anything.”

“I know they haven’t quit on the person of interest,” Patty Wetterling said. “I know that he’s still a person of interest.”

I'm confused by this comment in the kstp news article:

"Sources have confirmed to KSTP.com, during this summers two day search, investigators did not have a search warrant for the farm house, but rather just for the outbuildings and property. However, during that first day of the search investigators found enough evidence to go back to a judge and get a warrant for the farm house itself."

So if they found enough evidence to go back and get a warrant to search the house, I'm curious what that was.

No evidence was found, however Sanner stated that the results didn't change anything.

His comment makes me think that they still think that DR was involved, or responsible -- and it doesn't appear any apology will be forthcoming. With that said however, I'm still not sure that an apology is necessary, or appropriate!! Police are required to investigate crimes. A crime was committed. Unfortunately, it was committed at the end of DR's driveway.

I found it interesting to read that Patty Wetterling met with DR within the last 10 months and asked him if he abducted her son, and if perhaps it might have been a joke that went too far, or went somehow very wrong! The anguish and suffering of this woman, and her entire family is an absolute tragedy in and of itself!

I'm convinced that the sheriff is fixated on DR, despite lack of evidence. Maybe if the investigation is starting over, he needs to let go and embrace more ideas.

Based on an article I read earlier (and cited in an above post from today or yesterday) - they found animal bones, and clothing in their initial search. I suspect that this is what gave them probable cause to get a warrant for the farm house as well. Best guess.

When LE gets a search warrant, they have to specify what they are looking for . They can't randomly go through your things.

Because they found a box with a journal and clippings, it sounds like a tip to me.

I find it odd that he had those clippings when he wasn't even interested enough to search that night. Just wanted to go to bed.
