Watch the video -- this is DR on video giving an interview over the search results. My perception of the man following viewing this video is this:
- He MAY know more than he has ever shared (perhaps he himself saw the gunman, and perhaps he was threatened into silence?Hey, stranger things have happened!). Maybe he saw something we don't know about - that he reported. He indicates that in reading his journal perhaps police will find information to help them solve this case - something they may not have believed. What could he be referring to? It seems to me that this indicates that he has shared something with police which they aren't buying, and he hopes that the fact he wrote it down and they've now found it might help solidify for them what he told them.
- Where is is concern for Jacob?? He presents to me even now, 21 years later, as aloof!! He doesn't seem sad or even emotionally involved on any level - this is of concern! Short of Asperger's Syndrome or Autism which can affect one's ability to socially relate to others -- how is he seemingly so very detached?
- His eye contact in the video concerns me. He rarely blinks, he keeps his eye contact focussed, and trained on the interviewer, hardly looking away. This is of concern to me because I have been trained that when people stare during interviews, with a steely gaze, and don't blink or look away, they are often not being totally honest -- many think that by looking away, or not holding eye contact it might signal a lie -- so to cover their tracks, they glare / try to maintain total eye contact. I've seen this behavior many times in my career and its important non verbal behavior!
In the video, he declares people are apt to think, "I did it". Watch his eyes, and facial expression. He raises his eyebrows, and his pitch heightens. Red flag to me. I can't put my finger on why just yet - but this was very interesting to watch and rewatch -- something just isn't right about it!
I'm not a profiler, or LE of any sort -- but I do agree that its odd that he thinks his journal might offer insight and clues that police may have missed initially. This to me almost says that he HOPES they figure it out -- and he seems to HOPE they THANK him in the end for solving this based on his journal -- He seems to want to play the hero (my perception) -- why now, when at the time, he could not have cared LESS about Jacob?? Does he want to be caught? Have info pried out of him somehow? Is he bragging that police are stupid and he is smarter than LE? Is he fantasizing perhaps about some part of having this solved (eg: a relief not to be persued any more, relief to be caught if guilty? relief that a threat to his own family / self is now removed if the criminal is caught?)...
- Not once did I hear him use Jacob's name. Not the family's name. Its a flat line interview, lacking in affect! If he is innocent, where is his anger that this crime has had this impact on him? Where is his outrage? Were this me, I'd be fuming by now. I'd certainly understand that LE were considering me for the crime -- but I'd be hopping mad and you bet it would show through on national television, even if I were polite about it!!
Its only my opinion. My assessment of the man's interview. I'm not declaring he is guilty or innocent -- but -- rather, just pointing out what I personally view as red flags.
