Found Deceased MN - Jesse Dady, 21, St. Cloud, 25 March 2017

I just wish we or someone knew why he chose to go over the bridge at all rather than meet up with his friends like he had planned.

I do too.

I wonder if he just was so drunk he thought he was going the other direction and thought he was going home?

Unfortunately I don't think we'll ever find out

There are some comments under the St. Cloud Times article from someone who's seen the video. He says that it appears his cell phone lights up (possibly to take a snapchat) then the lit phone falls.

Thanks for the heads-up. It almost made me sick to read, but the commenter's (initials: BT, who comments in reply to a comment by BN) description of what is seen on video makes sense, in terms of how the events must have unfolded that led to Jesse's disappearance. I am so sorry for Jesse, his family and his friends ... :(:

I would be interested in seeing the rate of these deaths compared to the rise in binge drinking. Might being a little drunk or regular drunk not affect your decision-making the way back out drunk does? Binge drinking leads to more deaths but I've so far only seen it rated by age, gender, and location.

If that has anything to do with it my guess would be if we're not also seeing an increase in accidental deaths among young women (though I think we are) it might be they are more likely to stay in pairs or groups.

There was a case somewhere in the Northeast within the last year or so in which it was concluded that the victim -a college student- decided to use a railroad bridge as a shortcut on his way to a bar after a house party and fell into the river underneath. His body was not found for several months, IIRC.

I will try to find an article and a link and add, if I can. I remember being very, very surprised by all the people leaving comments on various SM and MSM sites saying that young people in the area did this all the time.

I'm not sure if Jesse was doing something similar since he lives in the opposite direction from where he was apparently heading. I also wonder if there was some sort of bet or dare involved, or maybe he thought whatever he was doing would make a cool Snap - somewhat in the same vein as those who fall to their deaths while taking a selfie.

I know I did some things I'm not exactly proud of when I was Jesse's age, and feel lucky to have come out alive. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy ....

"Friend of missing MMA student warns pedestrians to avoid Orono train bridge"
"A grieving friend of a missing Maine Maritime Academy student has issued a plea for people to stop walking on a railroad bridge that crosses the Stillwater River near where David Breunig was last seen on Feb. 26.
...
[The friend,] Gilligan, a third-year student at the University of Maine, wrote in the post that he has crossed the bridge “100-plus times, mostly at night” and others have done so as well.
...
Breunig, 21, was at a party on Crosby Street the night he disappeared but as it neared midnight he decided to head over to the Mill Street bars to meet up with friends, police said. He left the party alone at around 11:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, and his phone last pinged a local cellphone tower at 12:05 a.m. Feb. 27, officials have said.

The shortest route from Crosby Street to Mill Street is by crossing the train bridge over the Stillwater River. Breunig was last seen walking toward the train tracks.
...
[The friend] ends the post by saying that he and his friends have learned a hard lesson and he hopes to prevent future tragedies by asking people to take the proper route."

I used to live in Key West: If I had a dollar for ever drunk guy I saw fall into the water, I'd be wealthy now.

I was thinking along the lines (past identical cases) that they might throw in he was going on RR tracks to urinate.

They IMO can't use that this time - there is no one around there - for him to need to hike down dangerous RR tracks to take a pee

I have also been surprised that they have not carried on about totally wasted he was - in fact nothing has been mentioned by media as to their conclusions about his drinking behaviors that night.

I would agree but the bar he was supposed to meet friends at was not across the bridge. His plans obviously changed. So a scenario like you pointed out is certainly possible.

What a sad story [emoji20]

There was another case as well last year. A young man was partying with his cousins at a nightspot, left very inebriated to and all home, and fell through a gap on the railroad bridge. So sad. I cannot remember his name at the moment.

Edited to add: there was a thread here on Websleuths. It was a big one. He wasn't found for awhile. There was footage of him outside bar. He didn't have his coat (he wasn't allowed re-entry) and he was cctvd walking away on his phone. It turns out he crossed a high railway bridge and fell between the gaps.

Zachary Marr. This is the other similar case. He was denied re-entry to a bar and was drunk and attempted to cross a rail bridge and fell through a gap.

The only two conclusions I can draw for why he was out there are A: he took a walk out there to take a photo or to chat with someone (was it a nice night?) or B: to commit suicide (sorry I have to be the one to suggest it)

I do not know why ! Its tormenting - I had wildly crazy nights - maybe I was a baby? But I would never first blindly drunk want to go play around on railroad tracks or bridges.

Nor had I ever felt this need to hike for 4 miles to piss. Am I saying there was never the need to know that its probably not a good idea to unzip on fourth and main - no .

The reality is at 230 in the morning as long as your not flashing the drunk folks walking by could care less that some drunk dude just had to pee.

Some of it anatomy. Behind a dumpster is all fine.

IMO this relentless notion that drunk dudes , are schlepping to rivers edges to piss is just dumb. Its not how we are wired.

We gotta go we gotta go ---we are , physically unable to hold it while we scout out an isolated place .

I do not know- in all liklihodd it is antomy , females probaly have more control, and obviously need to find a more isolated place.

But that is not the whole thing. There would be a totally different response by passerbys seeing a female squatting behind a dumpster.

Males would stop and hoot . Females would think he is just being another drunk dude. How rude . Could care less - used to drunk males being drunk males!

This endless drunk male stuff is ludicrous - they can't have it both ways - less typing I am going to first person

So I am super blasted, have to urinate, am walking to rivers edge, start urinating , fall in , get swept away , but somehow in this, I had the ability to zip up while falling into this horrible situation.

I am cool accepting if this is what has been found . It is not. , zipper found open we are there. Zipper not open - this falling into a river while peeing does not work moo
