Deceased/Not Found MN - Jessica Jo Marshik, 36, apt door found ajar, Minneapolis, 14 Dec 2021

One other thought...a woman who is tangentially in the same circles (they have friends in common, myself included) recently went missing and was found safe, having chosen to take some time to herself. I have heard theories that that could've inspired others to do the same. I know that's always a possibility when an adult goes missing but based on the items left behind and the state of her apartment, I think it's unlikely.

RBBM

We know, based upon MSM links, that Jessica's purse and wallet were left behind. I don't think we know if her banking cards or credit cards were taken from her purse and used, or if someone tried to use them and failed.

Linking @PommyMommy 's post for reference.

I believe the apartment owners can give permission for LE to search without a warrant.
Was just going to say this! Voluntary consent is an exception to the search warrant requirement. It does have to be tenant consent, rather than landlord consent. And, more precisely, a tenant can consent to search of their personal areas and shared areas (e.g., their bedroom, the kitchen, and the living room) but not, for example, a roommate's bedroom.

LE has probably interviewed the tenants living next to Jessica. Hopefully, they've got some leads.

This one hits close to home (literally). I don’t know Jessica, but I could (similar ages, similar neighborhoods - even similar height and penchant for glasses!)

I hope she’s found quickly. The evidence reported so far makes me quite worried.

I hope the friends who are going through the VI process are verified quickly and can share more about theories / specifics of Jessica’s life.

Yes, they can search for a missing person without a warrant if the owner/tenant says OK. But if they found something illegal, like drugs or weapons they could not charge anyone, if the search was just for a missing person, IIRC. But at least they could be sure she wasn't injured somewhere.

Just adding, IIRC, they can't look in drawers etc without a warrant, they can only look where a person could be/fit. Some warrants only allow visual searches where others allow you to go through every draw etc.I could be wrong though. IMO
Adding: I'm sure each state has their own rules etc on this as well.

Yes, from my understanding, they can only do as you described---look for someplace a person or body might be concealed. But they also can look for a potential crime scene---like blood or a place a scuffle might have happened. And something like that can get them a quick warrant to investigate further.

I do wonder if they have a laundromat or other facilities of any kind. I used to leave my door slightly ajar if I was coming back with my laundry basket----and now , looking back, I shudder at the thought, knowing how many women have been assaulted by doing that.

I would think the building would have a laundry area.

I wish we knew if Jessica had been approached by someone wanting to date her or spend time with her, and if she was feeling intimidated or threatened by anyone.

In case anyone's interested, a Facebook group was recently created called "Finding Jessica Marshik." It's public AFAIK, so anyone should be able to join.

I sure hope Jessica's case can garner some more attention.

at this point i don't think we need more theories. i think we need a gofundme for a private investigator

edit: had no idea this site would censor the name of a fundraising service

Many of those "fundraisers" can be fraudulent, we've seen people try to take advantage of people who actually could use help and make fake "fundraisers" for profit, so these services are not allowed here. IMO

okay... but if someone starts a fundraiser for a PI and shares it elsewhere, i'll definitely donate. i don't foresee anyone on this forum solving this case, unfortunately...

how long does the VI process take here, anyway? silsby has been MIA for 30+ hours since saying they had "insider info." hopefully they've just gone directly to the police with their info.

I agree with you, jessfriend. I'd also donate towards hiring a PI.

Unfortunately I have very little faith in the MPD's ability to figure out Jessica's whereabouts, and I think it's safe to say that plenty of folks in her circle (activists) share that sentiment. The police department's apparent lack of urgency around her case is disappointing, albeit not surprising.

Ending my comment with the obligatory "My Opinion Only"

i didn't want to be the first person to say it, but i also have very little faith in MPD, especially considering jess's recent activism. i would love for MPD to prove me wrong... but they've probably already moved on. "my opinion only."

i'd set up a fundraiser myself, but i have no connection to her family so i don't feel like it's my place. i also feel like some friends in her activist circle would know more details about her recent life than i do, and would be better suited to connect with a PI, if her family isn't going to hire one.

I can’t help but feel there may be more to this one than is being put out there to the public. Perhaps the police/family have some idea as to what’s going on here? I too live in the area and don’t have tons of faith in the MPD. The proximity to the river is disconcerting and I considered going for a walk over there to see if I came across anything, but the huge uptick in carjackings and violent crime makes me nervous. Honestly, Minneapolis has gone downhill considerably in the past year or two and it’s really sad.

i hope you're right that the police/family have a lead. the relative silence surrounding this case feels very strange to me.

anyone know if the river was frozen on dec 14?

Echoing lack of faith in MPD. It's unnerving that they said they "expected to release more information soon" 5 days ago. (Minneapolis woman reported missing, apartment door found ajar with belongings inside - Bring Me The News)

I'm almost certain the river was not frozen ~12/14 since the temps were so high (Minneapolis, MN Weather History | Weather Underground (wunderground.com)). There was a high of 58* on the 15th, so if she left on her own without her winter coat, I think that would be the most likely day. As someone who also runs cold, I can see myself just going out with a sweatshirt/light jacket in that weather.

I called the United States Geological Survey and the MN Water Science Center to try to get more detail about the river conditions (since there's a monitoring location of the Mississippi River ~5 miles from Jessica's apartment) but the USGS said they don't track river freezing data and the WSC didn't answer.

thanks for your research on this. i was really hoping to rule out the river...
