Deceased/Not Found MN - Jessica Jo Marshik, 36, apt door found ajar, Minneapolis, 14 Dec 2021

  • #101
Not much we can do at this point except keep sharing her info and keep the pressure on MPD to work this case.

From the FB group:

"Call MPD and ask them to get cameras/video from around her building, interview the apt neighbors, and perform data forensics on her phone & laptop. 2nd Precinct phone# is 612-673-5702, ask for Sgt Julie Hagen, who is in charge of the case. Jessica's case# is #21-289840. Call them every day or even multiple times a day if you like."

I just called and was transferred to Hagen's voicemail. Sounds like pretty much everybody is getting her voicemail and not getting calls returned, including her family (source: the fb group).

Call anyway. Express your concern and request/demand that they take the specific actions listed above. Thank you.

(moo i guess)

Still waiting for my avatar to change. I went through the process of becoming a verified insider of this case, and I was accepted—but waiting for it to be Websleuths Official.

We look forward to your insights on this case and hope Jessica is found soon

There will be more info shared today during the canvassing event at noon (family/friends are hosting a press conference). MPD has been invited to attend and provide an update but I’m not sure whether they’ll come. I’m assuming it’ll be streamed or posted to the FB page.

Not sure if I can link to or reference a third party who is streaming the PC? If you search FB for Jessica’s name w/press conference, you should be able to view it. Not much new info.

It must be a very thorough process for it to take this long! Hopefully they hurry up... I am eager to hear whatever insights you may have.

People leave apartment doors open all the time for quick tasks, like laundry room trips, mailboxes, neighbors, delivery people, etc. so there are a many reasons her door could have been left unlocked and open. If all of her belongings were there then either she made a quick trip outside of her apartment or else she opened the door for some other reason.

Very possible there are missing details local LE knows but hasn't shared with the public.

MPD didn’t even assign an investigator for 11 days after Jess was reported missing (which was already 5 days after the latest contact with her) so it doesn’t feel like they’ve prioritized the case. So much info can be lost during that time and memories fade and it’s just really frustrating.

From what I've read, she lives on the second floor. From a quick survey of Google maps it appears that most of the apartment buildings in that area have indoor hallways. It's been reported that her door was not only unlocked, but ajar. I have been trying to think of all of the possible scenarios for how this unfolded. Here is what I have come up with:

1. She left her apartment for a quick, nearby errand. Maybe she was taking out the trash or returning something to a neighbor. But why would she disappear? Was someone lurking, waiting for an opportunity? And why not pull the door closed even if your not locking it.

2. Someone came to her door and requested immediate assistance with an emergency. She seems like the type who would drop everything to help. But again why did she disappear? Was this a ruse to get her out of her apartment?

3. She may have met someone online, at a bar, or at one of the RJN rallies and had invited them for a visit, or they showed up unexpected. This would explain how they got buzzed up to her apartment. Maybe this person did not have her best interest at heart and abducted her and engaged in foul play. There was a struggle and that's why the door was ajar.

I'm leaning towards scenario #3, mainly because they needed to be buzzed through the apartments front door to get access to her apartment. MOO

RBBM:

Could Jessica have been overtaken by someone (drugged?) who then removed her from her apartment? If someone were carrying her out it would likely be difficult to close the door behind them.

However I don't see someone being able to carry a full grown woman out of the building unless they had a way to conceal her. Or maybe they had a lie prepared? Something like "Just on our way to the emergency room, don't mind us!" ??

This story here is what makes me think it's possible: Found Safe - Canada - Amber Johnson, 33, unconscious, kidnapped, Toronto, 13 July 2020 *arrest*

IMO Jessica looks like she is in shape and would put up a fight.

Are there any photos of her tattoo?

Did she have a job? Was she dating anyone? Is there any history of substance abuse or mental illness? Is self harm a possibility? Was she having issues with anyone?

This case is boggling my mind a bit… I keep checking for updates, but there isn’t much. The folks running the Facebook page/talking to the news are doing a great job, I can’t figure out why there is nothing coming from her family? Or are they the type that expects the police will solve this? (I mean nothing negative, some people just truly believe in the police and don’t realize how many cases need community involvement) Does the family have an inkling as to what happened?

What did Jessica do in a typical day? How did she spend her time? Its awfully sad that a woman can disappear like this.

All moo

edited to add: The 14th was about a week into the Kim Potter trial going on not far from Jessica’s apartment. Does anyone know if she attended any protests or was seen during that time? Perhaps it could help narrow something down…

Good questions/points!

Often LE will include things like "high risk lifestyle" or "has health condition" or "takes medication" in their statements and descriptions of MPs who have this kind of history. I suppose the lack of these statements means she didn't engage in this kind of activity (drugs) or have a known MH condition? Or a physical health condition for that matter.

Having said that, many people live secret "double lives". Within this thread, I've read that Jessica kept some unsavory friends? What does that mean?

Why have LE specifically stated that Jessica liked to frequent shops in the area of East Hennepin Ave? Any shops in particular?

Was she dating? Did she ever receive threats or backlash for being involved in the Racial Justice Network group?

Here's a weird thought I just had: Could Jessica have been "Catfished" by someone within the building?!

What are Jessicas' ties to Florida?

Friends canvas neighborhood in search for missing Minneapolis woman (fox9.com)
[...]

On Saturday afternoon, her friends gathered outside her apartment on 7th Street S.E. to keep her name and face on the forefront of people's minds. Block by block, they covered cars, buildings, and light posts in the neighborhood with flyers.

KM grew close to Jessica through their work with the Racial Justice Network. The two spoke on the phone just two days before she went missing.

"The nature of that conversation was me checking in with her because she had a difficult set of personal circumstances that she had been dealing with recently. I was checking in with her how she was to see how she was doing, to see what kind of support she needed," said KM.

"My concern is that the struggles she was experiencing may have made her more vulnerable to people who prey on people in those kinds of situations."

A candlelight vigil for Jessica is scheduled for Friday night.
