I just cannot visualize how this happened. There is a body/person walking towards a car, headlights are on, could the occupants not be able to see that it was a female in PJ’s? Regardless of any loud noise that was heard?
She had to have been in those headlights for however long it took her to get to the driver’s side window which was down. I can’t get the photo of Justine and Don out of my mind. They look so happy.
I just cannot think of any scenario that would give this policeman the right to shoot her. Again another innocent life has ended.

The cops were driving with headlights off. However, from what has been reported, the alley was lit. So they should have had no problem seeing who was approaching the car.

The driver cop's testimony is he saw her at his front driver's side window. She was shot through the front driver's side window (some articles say front door). So when the shooter cop shot at her, he should have been able to see her.

Betty...that is exactly what is happening here in Minneapolis. Since 2014 the MPD stopped investigating themselves and the BCA took over. While this seems more fair it is being used by MPD as the reason why we or they don't know anything.

Thanks for the info. We've had similar problems in NE Ohio & Cleveland with Tamir Rice and others. Our county prosecutor's father was a police officer who was killed in the line of duty many years ago, so he wasn't much help to the victim's family.

Sounds like your BCA may need more transparency and accountability to the public. That's a crucial part of any organization handling these sensitive issues. Do they have any citizen reviewers on their bureau?

Yes, the way I'm reading this, the squad lights were not on, doesn't say the headlights were off. I'm assuming squad lights are the flashing lights.

Also says she was shot through the driver's side window, not the windshield. I find it noteworthy that there was no mention of a "loud sound" until the last couple of days.

I do think a lot of confusion has been due to terminology used, and assumptions being made as to what it means. Like you, "squad lights" to me initially meant the flashing light bar. But I am beginning to think it may refer to the headlights. But I'm not sure. And confusion about "shot through the door or window." I am assuming that meant just shot out the driver's side window which was likely rolled down and not shot through the actual door. But again, poor reporting left that unclear for a long time. I blame a lot of the confusion in this case on the part of the public and appearance of changing stories to actually just poor reporting by news media in their rush to get headlines out.

I took squad lights to mean blue and reds......MOO

I understand that but I was referencing a post that said they should have seen she was a pretty woman when she approached. I'm saying she could have initially approached from behind. Again I'm not defending anyone I'm just saying that's a possibility.

Have assured family justice, follow due process

About individual officer's action. He completed training, suited to be on street.

She was in a remote place, couldn't return

Rare for a chief to say something shouldn't have happened before investigation, but she is saying that

Based on actions seen, Justine should not have been killed

Cameras should have been on, will enhance the policy

Not second nature for officers to put them cameras on yet. Find a way to do it.

When officer moves a gun from holster, camera will be activated - new practice they want to have
