well three complaints in less than 2 years with one lawsuit filed in federal court day before this happened...does that tell you about how he handled things?

Yeah, sure does. Not good.

I can't answer those questions...the important thing is he is representing MPD and they are the ones under the microscope right now...this is at least the third very high profile officer involved shooting in the last 3 years..with many more less high profile and they just had a major incident where an officer shot someone's dogs in their yard for no reason as the dogs approached and were waving their tails...exciting to see him. This was on video and lots of fallout from that too.

Fulton is part of the Minneapolis PD . I looked it up and see it is a neighborhood name, not a suburb. I was confused about that.

I was a teacher and although there are state and national unions, each district had their own with their own reps. Kroll does Minneapolis which Fulton is a part of. But is he the rep for St. Paul or even suburbs?

Kroll is very brash so it is strange that he has no comment

so I live just over the MSP border is a first tier suburb that has had its share of issues too.

Who is your police department? Does your suburb have its own police?

Yeah, sure does. Not good.

I wonder what those suits are. The one where the woman who was taken to the hospital for mental health eval because the relatives called and said she has issues is a strange one.

I read a bit about that lawsuit...my opinion is it is probably not justified....I believe they took her for her own protection but sounds like it could have been handled better...I guess the part I find interesting is it was filed just the day prior to Justine's murder.

yes most suburbs here in the twin cities have their own police force. I do know there is often tension between the mayor and the police chief and in my opinion both have extremely tough jobs getting worse by the day. I would imagine that Betsy has a number of body guards and people standing outside of her home right now. I can't image wanting that job. And I bet that Harteau took the first plane back to Colo. to resume her mountain climbing. The assistant chief now chief is an interim appointment and I think she had about 18 months left...guess he will be on "probation" and if things go well he will probably get the job. Lots of people here feel we need an outsider to come in and really clean house but doubt that will happen.

  • #127
you have to wonder how city hall even functions when everyone is against each other...Bob Kroll feels Harteau threw the entire force under the bus and she said she feels like she was thrown under the bus. Insanity...from a local paper...http://www.wowt.com/content/news/435941323.html

I am not going to be surprised to see Kroll come out soon and back up the self defense theory....

According to federal court documents detailing the open case, Noor, along with another officer, allegedly forced his way into a woman’s home and taking her to hospital.

The complaint alleges Noor and the other officer of forcing their way into the woman’s house “without any reasonable or legal cause” and accuses them of “violently and forcibly detained her and transported her against her will”.

The woman was told she was sent to hospital because she was in a “mental health crisis” and calling 911 “a million times”, which she denies.

The complainant alleges false imprisonment, battery, assault, negligence, and violating civil rights.

The complaint was filed to the US District court just over three weeks ago, and the case is ongoing.

just heard that there is a bit of a process even for this interim nomination...has to pass city council and others...now I hear that people are questioning his choice as he was involved in a major lawsuit against the MPD for racism and the officers involved won a large settlement...

Do you remember Kitty Genivese in New York who was attacked and killed? Back in the 60's was it? People were appalled that ho one did anything. It was a huge issue.

How times have changed.

According to Kitty's brother in the documentary The Witness, at least two people called police but police didn't respond because they thought it was a domestic dispute, and there was also a lady who ran down the stairs to where Kitty was and held her as she died.

Unfortunately, police not responding because they assumed it was domestic violence is even worse than bystanders not calling in the first place!

I believe that the dog shooting was completely un-justified. Yet apparently police union issued a statement claiming they support this cop.
Here is the link to the dog story.
"Newly released body camera video shows a Minneapolis police officer shooting a homeowner's dog as the dog walked toward the officer, tail wagging, before the officer shot a second dog who was rushing toward him."

There is a different version where she called about some kid. Relatives called and said that the woman had mental health issues.

This explains the situation , I feel. The Oz article is sensationalism.

It is not that long ago that laws were changed and the police got to take the abuser to jail. Many times they would arrive and the person calling in for help changed their mind. And society had the standard that what goes on in a family is no one's business. Abusing a wife was no biggie

i am finding the oz articles to be very inconsistent with what is coming out here...at first I thought maybe they had some info from the family there that just can't come out here in msm now but it does look like just looking for a more exciting story.

Yep. That case says much more about the 'she probably provoked him' attitude of LE to DV at the time than anything about disaffected apathetic bystanders. When we studied the incident in uni it had already been debunked.

Well perhaps this one is better then, although most MSM like to sensationalise IMO

“Officer Noor’s attorney did not provide clarification on when, if ever, an interview would be possible,” the BCA said.

It came as the lawyer for another woman who called police for help says his client was taken to a mental health hospital by Noor, who tried to have her involuntarily committed.

Teresa Graham’s lawyer Mr Kushner told The Australian that Damond’s killing was another example of how Noor had failed those who had called on him for help.

“(Officer) Noor grabbed (the) plaintiff’s phone from her hand and then grabbed her right wrist and upper arm, thereby immobilising her,’’ her court statement says. “The plaintiff had not in any way physically resisted the police officers.’

They took her to a hospital to involuntarily admit her but the hospital deemed her fine to go.

Daily Telegraph is Murdoch too ;) That said it's not impossible for them to sometimes write something purely factual especially in articles that are basically just quotes or rehashed media statements.

Best Aus media is the ABC and the SBS, with Fairfax sites (The Age and SMH) also okay.
