I don't think that is what they are being taught. In LA they are taught the opposite these days.

"Don't shoot cuz we don't have your back."

That^^ is what our academy is teaching. And that is why a lot of cops want to get off the streets.

Well seeing as how LA has been pretty much been burnt to the ground x2 in the past 50 yrs due to police brutality....maybe they are starting to figure it out

Perhaps there would be more top-notch new people coming into work for them if their ranks weren't full of a bunch of paranoid, trigger happy racist authoritarians with anger management issues. Who would want to work with a group of people like that every day?

Word!

  • #303
i agree on recruitment ..Noor got $20/hour to go out and risk his life for starting pay and reportedly is now getting $28/hour ...again with risks for them getting worse every day...not surprised that they are not getting recruits. To be honest I would not want a family member out there today.

They're not working in a high risk situation. The last time an officer in their city was killed in the line of duty was 17 years ago. They're at greater risk of death by car accident. Many other occupations are higher risk than the one they're doing, where they're doing it.

And $20 an hr with benefits, including health plan, insurance and pension (a rarity these days in the private sector) is pretty good pay for someone with a 2 yr college degree.

Of the 10 most dangerous jobs, police officers rank number 8, behind construction workers, loggers, EMT's, etc.

And any idea why a group of people would become paranoid, trigger happy and angry? Could it be a reaction to the events they experience on the job, day after day?

Doesn't change right and wrong. And killing someone unless you absolutely have to is wrong no matter how the union syndicates try to justify it

I think your information might not be up-to-date.

2016 ended with 89 police shootings in LA County — 1 every 4 days

The District Attorney investigates each shooting in the county for criminal charges. But the law grants officers broad leeway in their decision to shoot, and no officer has been charged in connection with a shooting since 2000 in Los Angeles County.

The DA's count doesn't capture significant details such as which law enforcement agencies were involved, if a shooting was fatal, and the race of the people shot.

A KPCC review of hundreds of L.A. County police shootings between 2010 and 2014 found that one in four people shot by police was unarmed, and that black Angelenos were shot at a far higher rate than other races.

They're teaching them military-style, enemy combatant tactics. They teach them to shoot first and if the person is innocent, they teach them how to cover it up. I think this was already established a year or two ago during previous shooting incidents where innocent people were victims.

Why wouldn't they be taught enemy combatant tactics? They meet up with and engage enemy combatants almost every day.

I think they're angry and trigger happy before they join and that's part of the problem. It's why they're attracted to the job.

I proposed that several days ago as a possibility before it was thrown out in the media

"Cops drive into the alley with at least one window rolled down to investigate. They don’t hear anything so they decide to drive around to the front where I presume the front door is, to speak to the caller. Damond sees this from the alley and thinks they may me leaving so she either approaches the car or even knocks on the window or fender. When she get close to or at the window the officer who is already concerned about his safety since he has his gun drawn panics and shoots."

Yes, I recall that. I still think she would have called out to them first, as most people would have. But the scenario they're trying to push fits with the other attempts to smear her, including hinting that she was doing drugs, etc.

I am talking 2017. Officers are not feeling that the top brass are going to back them or support them. There has been a steady drain of experienced officers leaving the street patrols. I know many who left in 16, and 17.

They say that the general public has become very combative and wants to resist and fight at every opportunity. And it is not safe for an officer to have to deal with that on a daily basis. They feel they will have to use their weapons on a simple traffic stop or a trespass call--and no one wants to do so.

If she banged on the squad car it is because they were ignoring her. Their windows were open, common sense says she would have called out to them first.

There is a lot of brutality in the streets of LA, and very little of it is being done by the cops. JMO

Do you have a link for that?

I'm basing mine off statistics from the Minneapolis PD. It's a city with much lower risk than others.

https://www.odmp.org/agency/2518-minneapolis-police-department-minnesota

Since 1888, they've only had 27 deaths by gunfire

The last Minneapolis police officer killed by gunfire was in 2002, Officer Jayne Schmidt

https://www.odmp.org/officer/16343-police-officer-melissa-jayne-schmidt

Trying to whip up false hysteria in police forces across America is getting too many innocent people killed. It has to stop. Citizens are fed up with the slaughter of innocent people at the hands of law enforcement.

Why won't they do their jobs?! Geez. They want money and benefits and protection and SWAT gear, but then they want to also do nothing?

Good point.

Maybe they had had enough of her and were leaving.

Also,in terms of minneapolis:

For Minneapolis, we found that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation, across communities of all sizes (both large and small). Violent offenses tracked included rape, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, including assault with a deadly weapon.

Some people see that as a self-fulfilling prophecy. Treat citizens with violence and they'll become afraid. These days I would be terrified if a cop pulled me over for speeding or somesuch. This incident in Minneapolis has now made me afraid to call 911 if there's criminal activity in my neighborhood.

( Sent from KSTP )

Law expert is confused why this warrant was signed off on. Feels there was not probable cause.

"When I read that search warrant, I really cannot find probable cause to search her home," he continued.

According to court documents, investigators applied for the warrant on the following grounds:

The property or things above-described was used as a means of committing a crime

The possession of the property or things above-described constitutes a crime.

The property or things above-described is in the possession of a person with intent to use such property as a means of committing a crime, or the property or things so intended to be used are in the possession of another to whom they have been delivered for the purpose of concealing them or preventing their being discovered.

The property or things above-described constitutes evidence which tends to show a crime has been committed, or tends to show that a particular person has committed a crime.

Sorry, but they mention no source for their data. Have never heard of them.

First off there is nothing ok about the police shooting a person that was no threat to them.

We can’t have the police killing the people they are paid to protect based on just “because they felt threatened”. That is not a good enough reason. It may have worked in the past but now with everyone carrying a video camera around 24-7. This will not work anymore.
These cities just keep paying out money in lawsuits to the victims’ families. Money that they cities say they do not have to spend but they don’t seem to want to fix the problem. I can promise you that if a percent of the money lost due to these lawsuits came out of the mayor, police chief and city boards pay checks they would be a little quicker to fix the problem.
