Just into @FOX9 newsroom. Today's booking photos of Mohamed Noor. The former #Mpls police officer convicted today on counts of 3nd degree Murder & 2nd degree Manslaughter. Noor was immediately taken into custody. Sentencing June 7th. #NoorTrial #JustineDamond #JustineRuszczyk

Wonder if he'll go to the prison where Chris Watts is.

He has an eye to his civil case...I don't think it is about the money...he wants to get Noor from every way possible. I don't think an appeal will get far...this seemed like a well tried case and jury had no issues. I am with the family ...go after him again in the civil case. That case should really be bad for the police department, city of Minneaplis and the Union that tried to make this case disappear.
I don’t think the civil case is about Noor. He is destroyed at this point. The civil case in my opinion is more about getting accountability from the city for putting him on the force and from the police for the attempted cover up. The city will try to settle it fast, but we’ll see if the family allows it.

I wish the reporter would have asked: "What wasn't fair about it?"

I so agree. In most cases, I say to the reporter on TV or the computer, ask him this, ask her that... Then--why didn't you ask them that?? :)

That's what I was thinking......the civil case was against the city. IMO they have very good reason to go after the city.

Noor should have never been on the force.

At the time of the shooting Noor had been on the force for 21 months and Harrity for 1 year.

Justine's dad ......

Ms Ruszczyk’s father John said the family had been through a “painful journey” since her death.

“We are satisfied with the outcome,” he told reporters.

“The jury’s decision reflected the community’s commitment to three important pillars of a civil society: the rule of law, the respect for the sanctity of life, and the obligation of the police force to serve and protect. “We believe this guilty verdict strengthens those pillars. We hope this will be a catalyst for further change.”

I agree that this is not the same....however again it goes to training...de=escalation needs to be stressed...mental health calls need to be handled so carefully and I think based on history people are really hesitant to call 911. I have been told in no uncertain terms to get back into my home when police were called by a neighbor and not knowing what was happening I went out...boy never again. The advice is STAY INSIDE and that goes for the caller. They know where you are and can find you. Did Justine make a fatal error going out that night...sure...but again no reason that it should have resulted in her death.

We teach our grandkids to stop and put their hands up, in the event of a police encounter. This is an excellent point to stay inside or wait for the officer to approach you, with your hands visible.

We socialize with many officers weekly, with the GKs. They play ball, or go to events and GDs BFs father is an investigator. We do not fear LE. I still worry about an overzealous officer.

"The suit, which names as principal defendants the city, Noor, his partner that night, Matthew Harrity, and the former and current police chiefs, is seeking at least $50 million in compensatory and punitive damages."

yes agree more about the city and cover up but I assume Noor is involved in the case as well as his partner.

Following the verdict, John Ruszczyk said he was "satisfied" with the verdict in the Noor trial, but was critical of police, saying the conviction happened "despite the active resistance of a number of Minneapolis officers."

Minneapolis city committee to receive briefing on Rusczyzk family's civil lawsuit

Time to clean up that PD

It was heartbreaking watching the father and fiancee at the presser.

50 Million, Minneapolis needs to settle and write the check. After all the evidence of police over up, shooting her in cold blood, a jury will not be sympathetic to LE.

An opinion piece in The Australian this morning ... I wonder if these points will have any bearing on the civil case.

When Noor was appointed as a police officer, the local mayor made a showpiece out of him because he was the first Somali refugee who'd become a police officer in that state.
As widely reported, there had been serious questions about his suitability, with reports of him being jumpy and unreliable, but the politician wanted to make a point about 'diversity'.
Diversity is not necessarily strength, as it would turn out, but it sure is votes for politicians.
His cultural conditioning as a boy in the anarchic lawlessness of Somalia didn't help him to be a steady officer, it likely had the opposite effect, but don't try telling that to a politician looking for votes from the Somali community in Minnesota.
Justine paid with her life.

Reaction to Noor verdict stretches from atrium below courtroom across to City Hall and beyond

To some in the courtroom, the jury’s decision brought a sigh of relief, and with it the hope that the conviction of Mohamed Noor marked a change to an unequal criminal justice system that for too long shielded bad officers from prosecution.

The prosecution’s sprawling case against Noor raised alarming questions about Minneapolis police conduct and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension’s investigation of the shooting. Assistant Hennepin County attorneys Amy Sweasy and Patrick Lofton crafted a picture of police secrecy that enveloped the shooting from the immediate aftermath to trial, showing jurors that several officers turned off their body cameras at the scene, accusing a key supervisor of inventing the story that Noor and Harrity heard a loud noise on their squad before the shooting and calling out dozens of officers for refusing to speak with investigators until they were legally compelled by an investigative grand jury in early 2018.

Yes, I would think this would have a huge impact on a civil trial. I wouldn't even argue I've give them 50million plus legal fees. I'm not sure this family will settle, they may want exposure/disclosure to the public.

This is a PR nightmare for LE and the mayor.
