Marcie Steger turned her head away from the projection screen as multiple autopsy photos of her daughter were presented in court Wednesday morning, the fifth day of testimony in the murder trial of her son-in-law, Jeffery Trevino.

Ramsey County Medical Examiner Dr. Michael McGee testified that her daughter, Kira Steger, was killed by homicidal violence, and that she could have been smothered by someone’s hand. Trevino, 39, faces two counts of second-degree murder in Ramsey County District Court for allegedly killing Kira Steger, 30. She was last seen alive on Feb. 21, and was recovered on May 8 from the Mississippi River.

McGee testified that Steger was cut with a sharp blade above her left eyebrow. The cut was about 1 1/2 inches long, and about a centimeter deep. It cut to the bone, he said, and would have bled “profusely.” McGee said Steger was likely cut when she was alive.

Oh that's right, I do recall reading about the cut above eyebrow. There's not much flesh up there, would have bled (and hurt) a lot.

She went missing in Feb. and was recovered in May and they had autopsy photographs that they showed in court.....what a nightmare for her family! I realize it is freezing cold part of that time but still those photos had to be brutal for the family. Thoughts of strength going out to the family.......

Well that answers the question about the thimble full of blood found...turns out the "blood" at the scene is much more than a thimble full to make a pillow very bloody, and create blood splatter in different areas.

Did he try to stab her, and ended up smothering her with a pillow? Did the pillow get bloody because the cut in her forehead had already occurred?

I see, the blood spatter is on the side of the box springs near the corner.

I don't think so, not sure if that came up in the testimony or not. I wonder how much being in the water for months hid things?

Reached the DNA portion of #TrevinoTrial. BCA expert says she did more DNA testing for this case than any other she has worked on.


I hope this means they have good results from Kira as well as Jeff.

In Trevino trial, Kira Steger's grandfather tells of bloody find

Trudging through the newly fallen snow around Maplewood's Keller Lake proved to be too painful for Norman Kelch's bad knee.

So Kelch, Kira Steger's grandfather, decided to walk along Arcade Street just west of the lake as he and other searchers looked for any signs of Steger. It was March 16. Steger, 30, had not been heard from in more than three weeks, and her family was frantic.

From his new vantage point, Kelch made a grisly discovery, he testified in court Tuesday.

We saw similar with RC's trial, JM didn't have the deposition SV gave to LE, Mehrens just plopped it on his table on day 2 or 3. I found that really odd. But JM didn't throw a fit over it, I guess since SV was his own witness. lol
